Finally purchased my first Prowler. It is a 1999 version triple black with 4k miles. It is being shipped out on Monday and I should receive it before the end of next week. I have read as much as I can on the boards to find out as much as I can about Prowler ownership. Anyone have any information they would suggest? Been any recalls I should know about? Any problem areas? Is this car made to be babied or can I drive it like I stole it? What about mileage? Most of these I have seen have little or no miles on them. Is this the norm? I presently own a Ferrari Testarossa and a Dodge Viper along with a Dodge Ram 3500 Dually Supercharged V10. I am shopping for a 57 Belair Convertible. I love the nostalgic look of the Prowler. I am quite sure I will be very happy with it and will be proud to add it to my collection. Just wished the next 7 days would pass a little quicker! |

There are a couple of TSB on the 99( your dealer would know) but I wouldn't do the tranny ECU reflash, I personally didn't like it. Welcome to the POA About 18mpg in town and 25 plus going 65mph, low miles is/are the norm. ------------------ |

Welcome to the POA and congrats on your Kat! where in Texas are you? Any dealer can look up for you whether or not all recalls have been done to it. You can look in the garage off the main page for recalls and TSB's. Center caps on your wheels break very easily. Crome rims lose chrome, and if you need ball joints replaced, ask someone in here for a reputable dealer near you. You can find most anything you want using the search feature at the top right side of this page near "post reply". If you don't find it there, just ask and someone will speak up. Contact your area coordinator and join in some events. ------------------ |

Free Welcome to the Club! Vision is a problem with the front end. If you pull up to curbing remember the nose sticks out farther then the fenders. Just about everyone has scratched the nose to some degree. Also the rear is wider then the front. When you pull into a garage or parking spot its a good thing to remember. Take it easy for a day or to to get used to the blind spots. I bought my first last Oct 2002 Candy Red, Bought a 2001 Mulholland in June. Now i want a 2004 Viper. Prowlers are fun attention getting Cars. They will not give you the rush of speed like a Testerossa or viper. The rush will come in different ways. Good decision on a Prowler, let me know in a month or two which one gets more attention out of your three. Just curious. Have fun ask any questions, alot of smart car guys here + Very techinical stuff. Just don't ask me, when i take some thing apart i always end up with extras when i'm finished putting it back together. ------------------ |

free - WELCOME to the POA. Drive it like you stole it! But, baby it also. Recall on lower ball joints. Have a dealer run your VIN# to see what has been repaired on the car. ENJOY THE RIDE ------------------ 27,000 miles of smiles

Thanks for the info guys! First thing I will take it to my local dealer, (I am 30miles SE of Dallas), as some of you have suggested and let them do a check on the VIN to confirm all TSBs have been performed. Gary C, what about the ECU reflash. What did it do that you were not happy with?
Thanks for the response guys! Looks like home here already. |

WELCOME-I'm late on this posting, but I wanted to welcome you to the Prowlers association. I've had more FUN talking and meeting fellow Prowler enthusiasts nationwide. First, try to get an extended warranty. I bought a 7 year/70,000 mile for about $1000.00. Then get the mudflaps, trans.cover, balljoints replaced, car cover, K&N air filter and If I where you, I'd buy a hardtop and the new alum. wheel caps. If I can help you in any way, please send me an e-mail. All of us Prowler owners need to stick together. ENJOY you new cat. |

As I recall, the 7-yr warranty is transferrable only from the original owner to the 2nd owner. The transaction must occur as the warranty states at the time the vehicle is sold. I think the original owner of the warranty has the option of turning in the remaining time for partial refund if it is not transferred. |

Free - Lots of opinions on here as you will find. Tech section of POA interesting and will give you a lot of history. Chrome wheels have had chronic peeling so many of us have replaced at least some. Front mud guards are popular to avoid the rock chips. I also have collected a number of sports cars over the years and still have the 66 stingray roadster and 68 L79 coupe. Never sold em. I am of the "baby em" group and keep as close to original as possible. Still only have 3,200 miles on the 99 Prowler. A lot of people have done great things with these cars though so your choice. And as a final thought, the 300 watt Infinity sound system doesn't match up very well with the OEM speakers and so many of us have had to work on the door speakers....... Good luck. Its a great car.... |

Welcome aboard, Free. Since you have a 99 you might have a fuel filling problem. There was a replacement made available and it does help if you have difficulty getting the pump to stay on. Ten minutes to put in 5 gallons of gas is unacceptable. Enjoy the ride. ------------------ |

quote: We are now thinking about changing out the speakers, we are not having any problems but we know that the manufacturers don't always put the best speakers in. We have read many responses in the archives about replacing speakers - what did you replace yours with? Part Number, please. Is there really a big enough difference to warrant the expense. Thanks in advance |
