I have a 2002 bought new this May. While at the KOC/Stang show in Arlington, VA this year, Sir Real (Jeff) mentioned that he and I were the only ones of the eight cats there to have the dimpled deck lids. Does anyone know the story behind the dimples? Is it a painted over defect? Thanks in advance, Tom |

Tom, it lines up with the pins that secure the back of the convertible top. I know they shuffled some tops around at that dealership. It would happen by dropping the top before it was secured thus causing the dimple. When I bought mine, right before I signed the paperwork I discovered that my pristine 2002 had a hole in the middle of the top. When I told them they acted surprised. When I took mine in to another dealership to have the ball joints done, I discovered that my top had been replaced under warranty before. Funny someone got a new top (paid for by Chrysler warranty) and I have a top with a hole in it,that the dealership says won't be replaced under warranty. Smells like fraud to me. BTW the hole lines up with the cutout where the top is released so the hole was caused by the car. Good luck to you!.........CJ both of these Kats came from the same dealership. They had seven Kats on their front lot when I bought mine and Tom's was one of them. Jeff |

Tom,CJ, I know it appears that I veered off the the subject to another problem but I was just high-lighting the questionable integrity of this particular dealer. Tom I don't believe for a minute that Chrysler would ever paint over a defect like this. CJ there are two bb (as in BB gun) size dimples about an inch from where the rear connector pins connect to the the trunk lid. |

If Im understanding you right, it seems that someone let the top drop down backwards, without holding it with proper support. Ive had 4 2002 cars and none had the dimples you are referring to! That should be fixed, it is not supposed to be like that. I will check later, but I think if you do not read the operating instructions for the top, you could easily make this mistake. Unfortunately they came 'equipped' like this from the dealer. Had I done it myself the moan would have been heard across the world. Jeff |
