The other day I was driving and was checking out the top speed and got up to 110 mph... It seemed to keep slowly increasing if i kept it floored. For some reason it seems it should go faster... ------------------ |

It's my understanding that the Prowlers should do 130. It might take you a week to do it though. These cars are quick off the line.... 0 to 60 is good say 6 sec or less. 1/4 mile is decent at high 14's... but thats where it ends. The faster you go, the slower the car pulls. I had a 86 Mustang 5.0 that ran about the same 1/4 mile time as my Prowler yet it pulled to 130+ very quickly. The few times I've had my Kat over 100 it felt like it would be a year before it hit 120... As a result I just drive mine for fun and dont care to push high speeds. I do take it to the drag strip now and then to run dial in. It's no race car... it's a cruiser. Last week, I did put two cans of Octane Booster on my KAT went out try it on one of the long stretch Hi-Way which was no traffic, pushed it to 130+ then speed cut off control did the job, It was ever scarry when it happen, because I have it in Auto Stick third gear. |

Does it hurt the engine ( Short or long time ) to use these octane additives? Does anybody has any experience on this subject? |

I'm an ExxonMobil distributor and in 1987 Exxon paid for all my expenses to attend a 3 week crash study at the Petroleum Engineering School at the U. of Houston and one of the things we studied was the effect of octane on performance. What I learned those 3 weeks was that Houston has some great clubs and bars! Seriously, I think that using octane enhancers for a short period would do little or no harm. From what little I know, the Prowler engine is mass produced for the 300M and is set up to use regular unleaded fuel. I would think PROLONGED use of high octane fuels (those above 103) may required some additional tuning and change of basic components such as spark plugs that are made to withstand the high temps of the higher octane fuel. When using enhancers I would not just top off a filled tank. I'd put about half the gas in, pour in the enhancer and then top off with gas. This would get you a better blend. This is essentially what they do at the gasoline terminals when they insert enchancers, additives and markers. ------------------ |

I belive Kat engine are not the same as 300M or other DC engine. On my first KAT, engine gone bad, DC cannot find any short block to replace, have to buy my the KAT back. I look at the 2002 and 1999 short block they are also different. I have been told by DC mechanic KAT engine is a special high output engine. On my owner manual state that the KAT is required premium fuel with minimum octane rating 91 but DC not recommenced to use higher octane fuel either, it's seem to be confuse. Anyone ever use regular fuel on your KAT? I did put 5 gal in my fuel tank then poured two 12 oz can of octane booster in then put in 4 more gal did not top it off so gas can be mixing well with the booster. it seem to be running hotter than normal. |

R.C. unless I'm mistaken my owners manual said to use premium unleaded. I guess I'd better check again. As far as top end it seems to me that the front fenders would act like air scoops (air anchors) and take away just a bit of speed. Has anyone out there ran a top end run without them, just curious. Well i always put in premium fuel... and as i figured they have a lot better acceleration than top speed... I love that acceleration... |

alee: are you going to be able to make it out to our event at chase chrysler in stockton on the tenth, will be doing a tech day ball joint scott curtis will be showing how to extend the door opening and other things along with a large group of PTs live band remote radio drawings and other things let me know |

there was a post about this with pictures a few months back just poke around and you will find it or maybe someone else knows the link and can help out. Scott Curtis is the one doing it out here in ca. I will see him next week and see what I can find out for you, in the meantime try contacting John Davies I think his log on is on poa is JDSilver, he and Scott spend a lot of time together working on ideas curtis |

SirReal: I use Prem. in my Kat too. When I said (typed) regular unl., I didn't mean 87 octane gas, I meant fuel that could be purchased at the typical gas location. The industry lingo speaks in octanes on standard gasoline. I said unleaded because many forms of racing gas still has lead in it. Sorry for the confusion. I was in my gasoline marketer mode when I responded. Yes, AC I had gas on the brain! ------------------ |
