Mike; The tenth digit would indicate the the vehicle in question is a 2001. Please correct me if i'm wrong. Thanks, Bruce |

Mike; I stand corrected. I looked @ E-Bay under Plymouth rather than Chrysler. There is a 2001 Black Tie up for bid. The car you referred to does match and leaves just two to locate. You might need another Black Tie for your fleet. Bruce |

There are 2 "Black Ties" on ebay. One is #39, and the other is a look-alike. VIN number indicates the look-alike is a 2000. Vehicle Description You are bidding on the 2000 Plymouth Prowler. This Prowler was painted to look like the most sought after edition among this gentre of luxury Hot Rods with two tone paint, the "Black Tie." Exterior & interior of car are in great condition & excellent convertible top. This description from the "look-alike" ad clearly states it was painted to look like a Black Tie. I really don't think this is one of the pilot cars. The other Black Tie is #39 and is NOT a pilot car. This message has been edited by Prowler on 03-24-2003 at 06:49 PM |

Not sure if it is the picture or not, but the door looks darker than the front of the car http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=2408647276&category=15284 |

This seems very typical of Silver paint jobs on Prowlers. They are very hard to photograph and with all the angles the paint seems to change shades as you walk around one. ------------------ PROWLEN.... John (-: |

quote: I had both the Silver and the Black-Tie, the paint on my two, looked even all the way around. Cars that have been painted (or fixed) have a difficult time matching the paint exactly (especially metallic paints). Other factors that make it difficult to match are paint oxidation, chemical pollutants, etc. |

I emailed the seller about the car and here is what he said, "I went to the Chrystel dealer and gave them the VIN of the car. They did a scan in their system, which show the car original color was silver." Were these pilot cars just ordinary silver ones that they painted? He is going to check further to see if it is actually one. |

I sent the owner an email. prowler@mchsi.com wrote:Could you clarify for me that this car was originally silver, and then painted to look like the Black Tie Edition? Could you tell me who painted it? Thanks, This is his response; Yes, this car was originally silver. The car was painted when I purchased it. Thus, I can not tell you who painted it. But, my guess is at a dealer because they did a great job. |

Yes I have the 5 Vin #s of the pilot cars. They were called two tones in 2000. The car on E BaY IS!!!!! one of the five!!! On my car and Bruces car, which are both 2000 Black ties the door states they are silver cars. At the factory they pulled 5 silver cars off the line in early July, put on a black trunk, black hood and painted the door. Then in late July Dr Ru striped, but did not sign all 5 cars! There were also some special notations made on the titles and also on the build sheets, which were not typical of all the other silver cars! YF, If you would like to confirm it is a black tie, get the MDH off the door . it willmost likely be 7/6/00 - 7/8/00. This vehicle has already been authenticated by Dr Ru, he has very detailed records on each one of the pilot cars as to Vin #, and the date and time it was striped! If the seller can get in contact with the original dealer, Chyrsler made each dealer that sold one of the pilot cars keep a copy of a display vehicle disclosure form in their file and it was mandatory they return one to chrysler with the first owners signature.
