Some information please for those who have had their cars "shipped" places from dealers or to places ... who have you used, from where to where, what did they charge, was it open or enclosed truck and would you recommend them based on your experience and the care they took of your car. Need info ASAP in preparation for car going from Chicago to San Francisco. Thank you to all in advance who reply ... |

Try: http://www.123movers.com Choose auto transport, bop in your zip and destination state and it will offer varied transport services. For the route I am looking at it offered 10 potential services. Filled out a brief info sheet, and submitted it. It automatically went to all 10 services of which 8 have emailed back quotes in a couple days. |

To all who have replied thus far .. thank you!! Great and varied feedback ... please, anyone else with real life experience shipping/transporting a car great distance ... am interested in the good advise as well as the nightmares of who to avoid. Keep the info coming ... Nope, not moving, would need a whole car carrier to accomplish that .. this is single vehicle and will share more when time is right ... |

Try Autobahn Transportation Services. Home office is in Lemont, IL Phone: (888) 458-9052. Autobahn hauled my prowler from Wisconsin to Tennessee last month. Excellent Service - Very Prompt - VERY VERY Carefull - Highly Recommended I would use them again without hesitation. If you call them tell Erika or Sam that Scott Karns in Tennessee recommended them to you. I have used several other carriers over the years and have horror stories that would make you cringe! I would not use VIP Transportation. At VIP - you're not one. Passport Transportation is also very good. I've had several cars transported cross country on several occasions. The best advice is to be patient. Drivers make thier own pickup and delivery schedules and it will change several times before the car makes it to it's destination. Go fully enclosed and ask for proof of insurance. Good luck! |

Been a while, but the last time I checked rates, various carriers were charging approx $1 per loaded mile...make sure it is a direct route, and the car is not dumped and warehoused for several weeks somewhere....friend ran into this situation with Horseless Carriage a few years back....they couldn't even tell him where EXACTLY the car('70 HEMICUDA) was.....very distressing for the owner to be....good luck, hope all goes well..... |

quote: I must be not only getting old but forgetful too! It'been a long time since I saw the movie Vanishing Point, but I thought the car was a White Challenger and it was a coupe? What was the driver's name also, Kowzenski or something like that? |

Marty....I just meant it might be driven like "Vanishing Point"............the car was a '70 Challenger hdtp.(actually several of them).....the scene at the end of the movie, where it crashed into some road equipment, the Challenger is all at once a Camaro.....they tied a Camaro to a line and drug it into the crash scene.....Kowalski was the drivers name....actor was Barry Newman, he later played "Petrocelli" on a TV series for several years....and yeah, you are getting old...ALMOST AS OLD AS ME |

Bob, Thanks for this tip as well ... is this a new side biz for Al or just a passion for the open road with another car in tow (open or closed trailer, single or we talking rig here)?

You never know with Al but he has a single enclosed trailer, I just spoke with him and he is already on his way back to AZ but he has a car he needs to haul up here soon from Denver so he is looking for a return haul. Give him a call on his cel and bust his chops. |
