Considering asking Santa for a RRod Weekender, so I can add a change of underwear to my toiletry kit on excursions - HA! Some question/concerns follow - ALL INPUT welcome:

1) Have not previously been satisfied with hitch-mounted add ons for other vehicles. Mostly concerned with the possible "play" (jerky motion / knocks..., etc.) when in motion.
2) Currently no hitch receiver - Do I need the wiring harness also?
3) Is the unit highquality, watertight?
4) Any one had it painted to match -- cost?

Thanx in advance,
JoeD

JoeD, The Weekender is the BEST add-on you can buy. The fit and finish is great. Most people think it is a "Factory Add On". The unit is stable and water-tight, and it locks. My unit came painted and matches real well. I did carpet inside to finish it off. Go for it, even if you buy a trailer, this item will be a keeper. (You can actually go to the Mall or Grocery store in your Prowler with it!)

You will need a hitch receiver but you do NOT need the wiring harness. Pricing for painting will vary wildly. You can buy it already painted.
KenG had his lined with bed liner, or something similar. He uses it as beer cooler, mostly. Do a search and insert KenG as the poster and I think he added pictures.

Joe D, looks like everyone has answered your other questions, so I'll add my experience on the possible "play" (jerky motion / knocks..., etc.) Bob has manufactured a new solid mounting bracket that actually bolts into the hole where the hitch pin goes. 100% improvement over the old hollow one that used the pin. No movement, noises, etc. I usually forget I even have it on. It is very high quality. I hope you've been good - you'll want Santa to bring you one. Kendra

Joe - The PT Cruiser chrome luggage rack has an optional bolt when using the rack. This is recommended to elimiate the shake with the pin. If you haven't really been good this year - The Rack is far less money and can be removed easily when traveling.

The Weekender is great. I bought it to use on trips but find that I leave it on most of the time. I purchased mine unpainted. I had the inside coated with Rhino Lining ($75.00) and the had a local body shop paint it ($250.00)to match the car. I aslo polished the hitch mount instead of painting it. It works GREAT as a beer cooler for those one day shows and tailgate parties! This is a GREAT option

Jeffsurp,

Your pictures didn't work because you had a space in the File Name, no spaces and 7 letters or less works,,,The directions are always there, if you need then. ( I hate reading directions)

Just thought you would like to know and for anyone else's future reference.

Have a great day,,,,,,,

I hope you get the pics loaded.
I'm going with your option due to my needs of transporting a large golf bag, son's hockey bag, etc.
Where do you get the bolt vs. the pin that comes with the carrier?

When I buy mine, I'll put a drain hole in it so I can store two cases of beer on ice...... Small rubber plug to keep it all in. Can't wait !

one of the best things I ever brought. I is very pratical, easy to install and take off. Yuo can use it for simple everyday things like shopping buys small grocercies or just about anything. Matches car perfectly and I love it alot!
I chromed my hitch also. If you go away for a shortday or even a cruise with your other half you gotta get it!
Enjoy

A few tips...

1. It is possible to install the weekender too close to the trunk. Be carefull not to do this, because there is a little play in the weekender and it can damage the trunk lid when you drive over bumps.

2. Lubricate the arm that holds the lid open. In mine, the screws thold hold the arm broke, because there was too much friction in the arm.

3. The bracket is very solid and stable and very easy to install and to take off - nice piece of work.

Randy, the bolt and all the other hardware is included with the rack. They were on sale for $ 325 and a few even got them a little cheaper.

And they definitely work as a beer cooler. At the Colorado event after a 9 hour drive in 90-100 degree temperatures at similar speeds several of us enjoyed a cold beer in the parking lot of the Flying W before going into dinner.
Thank you Bob G!

Marc - Bob is now developing a new weekender just for you.

Half storage space for beer cooler, half storage for fly fishing equipment and Prowler service manuals

The weekender was my first purchase for the car and one of my best. Couple of the things I like about the weekender is you can pull a trailer behind it if you need to, and the lines of the weekender is a perfect match for the car. enjoy you Christmas gift.
