OK.....It finally happened. I scraped the damn nose!!! It has been raining for 4 days straight here. (I am growing gills now). In the pouring rain yesterday, I pulled up too far to the curb and left a nice silver scrape on the curb! I cringed as I felt under the nose, and all these silver paint flakes came off on my hand as well.... DOES ANYONE MAKE SOME KIND OF SKID PLATE THAT FITS/ GLUES UNDER THE NOSE? Has anyone thought of this? If not, I am thinking of some ideas. Suggestions are very welcome as well.... *Braces for "I told you so's"* |

Thats a very good idea. I will check into it when I get my Prowler back next week. I picture something similar to what is available for the Corvette. ------------------ • MTD Prowler Intake System 2.2 This message has been edited by William Gallagher on 10-31-2002 at 07:41 AM |

Thanks for the feedback guys....OK AC...stop looking so smug over there! I picture some plastic (clear? body color?) thing that would clip towards the back of the nose and maybe glued somehow toward the front of the nose. The nose is just plastic anyway, so maybe even drill tiny pilot holes for the front of the skid plate to screw/ bolt to the front underside of the nose.....and clip the guard on the back. Or maybe just glued like the black stone-chip panels are glued to the rear wheel wells.... Either way, I imagine the skid plate not being visible unless you stooped down and looked under the front. If such a thing exists, or if someone makes one....I'm getting one! |

Thanks MeanGene....But I don't want to change the front's appearance, and I would eventually just scrape the hell out of that custom bumper anyway! I get oogy just thinking of those silver paint flakes that came off in my hand.... |

Just my opinion - Why not just touch up the scrape? You have already scraped it and drilling holes to mount something seems like more damage than the scrapes. I believe I remember someone spraying bedliner protector on the bottom of the nose and then painting it body color. I can remember the cringe I had when I curbed it the first time. (Yes - I have done it more than once) |

I don't know how bad the parking lot curbs are in the US but it seems where I live they are making then higher now like 8" hit them with the Kat the PT doesn't matter. I remember my first and touch wood the only time with the Kat. Welcome to the Club BT PK |

Black Tie I feel your pain! I scraped the nose on my Silver Prowler for the first time last week. Talking to my passenger while parking at a restaurant and ran up onto the curb. From the sound it made I thought the whole front end was ripped up. Just a few small scrapes under the nose. I have thought about a "Skid Plate" made to fit under the nose and coming up just to the point that you could see it. Steve 1 down 2 to go. ------------------ |

Marty.....Thanks for the ideas!!!...but....Touch-up looks just like that...Touched up. Even so, the next (inevitable) scrape will just undo the touch-up. I wouldn't mind small mounting holes drilled if there was something durable, inconspicuous, and replaceable to bolt/ screw/ snap to the nose....I think the bedliner approach falls just short I'm looking for a more permanent solution that could endure a few "ooopsies" here and there.... UPDATE: I was just talking to Bob Goetz of RealRod as I was posting this and mentioned this idea to him, and he had experimented with an aluminum skidplate, but needed to refine the template for ultimate airflow underneath. He said he will be working on a durable teflon type of skid plate just as I am hoping for! He is mastering the template to correct any airflow problems underneath and he got a little more inspired about the project as we talked about it. Steve T. This may be just how you and I are imagining such a product.... Maybe soon Real Rod will offer such a product! This message has been edited by Black Tie 161 on 10-31-2002 at 09:03 AM |

Black Tie 161... if your painter is any good... once the scrape is touched up, you or anyone would never know it's been fixed. I have had mine re done a few times and I am sure I will again. I have even scraped them going over speed bumb's carefully, it happens. Just get it touched up and be more careful. ------------------ |

I hear ya Todd, But I want something that I do ONCE, and be done with it. I don't have time to take my daily driver in for little touch ups all the time.... I want a fix that won't dissapear the very next time I scrape the curb. I want something durable. I think Bob Goetz is going to come up with something good! |

I would rather have a few scrapes than an aluminum thing sticking out of the front of the cat. The scrapes are a lot less noticable. If it is underneath and hidden it probably will not protect anything, anyway. JOMO |

I hate to say I'm glad that's what you were talking about because you damaged your car. Hope its not to bad. But I though you were talking about welding skid plates to the bottom of your car so you can lower it while driving and watch the sparks fly everywhere. I saw this on TV and though it was some stupid stunt for a movie until I saw it again at a cruise in slidell and then again at CTC. What will they think of next? I always though when your car was draging the ground it was time to have it towed. Glad to here you're not doing that. ------------------ |
