What about Zero Tolerance laws? You could seize one and be like Miami Vice (only cooler)

Nope- had to do it the old fashion way - I stole - I mean I earned it and paid for it myself. (23 years and a Sergeant, making a fairly decent salary now)

I guess I work for the wrong Department, Sgt. Randall . . . I had to make Captain before I could afford one. They still want to know how . . .

In Europe, you could find them using Porsche 911 targa's as cop cars (I kept trying to get arrested so I could get a ride in one but, that's another story)

Would be cool to see a prowler as a cop car over here.

Wouldn't have been able to afford it. Finding one under $40K was a key for me. Now - would I like those options? Sure, but do xenons come in round lights?

There's no way.

This purchase was a "gift" from my wife - who lovingly supports all my indulgences (Prowler, KISS, etc). We made a joint decision based partially on affordability and partially on my desire to own such a car.

We got such a great deal (several thousand below invoice) that even at sticker ($45,850) we wouldn't have made the buy.

Understand that I AM a Prowler enthusiast.
A frugal one, but an enthusiast none the less.

Kevin

Nope.......wouldn't be able to afford it.........I don't feel it's worth that kind of money.....it's why it took me three years to get one........wouldn't pay the big bucks the dealers wanted.

Well, we kinda, sorta had a Prowler Patrol car. My Mulholland is close to the same color as our patrol cars. Shortly after I bought the Blue Kat, we had a community parade to do, so I decked out my Prowler with a blue strobe on the windshield, banners on both doors that were the same as our decals and 2 American flags. It was the hit of the parade. The Chief was in the Prowler with me and had a BLAST. He keeps asking when we have another parade lined up!

There are some people that paid that and more for some of the 1997s and some paid close to that for 1999s. I guess it was worth it for some.

BlueKat-

I get the same question. Some people have to get it through their head that cops get paid, save money, and spend their money just like everyone else. I think it's funny when someone sees me in the Prowler and says "How could you afford that?"

As far as my position, Administrative Sergeant is the highest uniform position we have outside of the Jail Division. With my tenure and area of responsibility, comes the #3 pay slot. I'm going to give it about 4 more years then retire!

Like I said in another post, being single, no kids, and a paid for house helps with the ability to spend on toys!

We waited 10 years to have our first child, now we have two, are contemplating more, and don't know why we waited so long.

I would have bought a least one at that price, but I would have put a lot more thought into it before I bought. I had to think about it for two years, before we bought the Jag because of the price. I have a very hard time getting past the Jack Benny cheapness that runs in our family.

You can be frugal but, don't be cheap because, "You can't take it with you." My father-in-law saved every penney he ever made. They lived in a very modest home and drove clunkers. He always told me about all the cars and stuff he was going to do with all his cash (and he had tons of it) when he retired early at 60. Two weeks before he turned 60 he dropped dead of a massive coronary.

Actually that is why I finally made the leap on the Jag. My father always wanted a Jag and I finally convinced him to buy one and one month later he was diagnosed with brain cancer. He only got to drive it for a couple weeks. I told the wife that we were going to get ours now so we could wear it our before we were worn out.

Folks think 65K is the price of the car today. Actually, the first few Kats I saw were priced well above that. All I could do was drool. I never thought we would be able to have one of our own.

When I first started looking for my car they were selling for $135.000. Three places I emailed called me to place a bid, Thats right to get it you had to be the highest bidder. Was going to have a plate that said (HYSBID)but I didn't Quite pay that much. Guess thats what you get when you have to be first at having things. Haven't learned a thing. Just had to have a new Hummer2.

You have to live life for today! People that save and save for the future usually never enjoy any of the pleasures. They either die, or get to old to have fun . . . I am trying to learn to enjoy today, and doing a pretty decent job of it, I think!
So Randall, congrats . . . just 4 more years! I will hit the 20 year mark next month, but I'm still in Uniform (works good for today - Halloween)

Too rich for my blood.

$42,000 was stretching it for the Black Tie!

I remember seeing the 97's for $150K+ and thinking, o.k., yet another realistically priced car ($40K sticker) that I can never afford.
