Wow - I am amazed at the number of emails, posts, phone calls and Private messages I have been getting about my engine problems. Thanks to all for your expressed concern. The dealer ran a compression today and three cylinders are bad. The standard I was told is 210; the front two were 27 and 31. (can't remember about the other bad one) They want to replace block and get new heads also. If dealer does work, I will then have a basiclly new engine in a 48,000 mile car. As an alterenative, I could choose to have someone else build a motor with upgraded components. Waiting to compare $$$$$ cost to make decision. Marty ------------------ Driving my Dream |

Marty, would it be cheaper to buy another Prowler that is wrecked and sell off a lot of the parts? after removing the engine for your car? I hate to see you did that much damage. |

Marty, JD talks from experiance... The man has already gone thru 3 prowler engines. UNBELIEVABLE If you beef up your engine expect to fine tune and baby it all the time. If you got the bucks, then by all means jump on it. It should be a blast... Later... |

Marty, maybe you'd be better buying a new Kat for $35K and selling your parts car for $10 K or so, thus into a brand new Kitty with NO miles for only $15 K more then your spending. Also, if you beef up the motor, your going to blow the tranny without a beefup, talk to JD on that one and cost. AND< the more trick you get, the less reliable daily driver. ------------------ |

All points mentioned are certainly food for thought. Things I know are for sure: 1. I will not sell this kat. Even if I get another one sometime. This is my first one and I have had way too fun modifying and driving it and attending events in it. IT will NOT be parted out - EVER. 2. I realized when I first started down the path of performance mods that this might happen. I need to balance my "need for speed" and thought that the car should run as fast as it looks with being practical enough to continue daily driving. $$$$ dictate I may have to wait to really enhance the performance until both kids are in and out of college and I have another vehicle for a daily driver. 3. The car is surprisingly driveable. If I don't hammer it I can continue to drive it daily while possibly having new motor built. 4. Right now my inclination is to have motor repaired to like new stock condition and then rethink what my long range plans for it will be. 5. Rebecca & I will definitely be driving THIS kat to POA events next year and into the future. Happy Prowling & thanks for your comments. Marty |

Redline Usher - Good Luck on whatever you decide. While the cat is on 'down time' remove the tires/wheels to bring home. That way Rebecca can keep them clean and shiney AC |

Marty, maybe have rebba do a detail on the under carriage while those wheels are off too. Put her to good use... and place the blame for this new idea on AC |

Todd - with suggestions like that I would soon catch AC and have three ex-wives! Reba was kind enough to NOT say "I told you so" about damaging the engine with the nitrous and drag racing, so I feel pretty good about wanting to keep her around for a while longer. Besides - she likes going to POA events & cruises! |

Todd - there is always hope. Maybe my next kat will not be a daily driver and I can keep it in showroon condition. That would be nice. Trying to keep the under carriage clean of a daily driver in Kentucky's rainy/slushy winter would be a tall order. A good professional Spring detailing may be in order in about six months.

Marty I am really bummed that your engine requires a complete rebuild. You did do me a big favor however. In the back of my mind there lurked just the slightest thought of adding NOS to my Kat someday. Between you and the stories the guys told me at No Problem Raceway I am now completely convinced that I don't want to mess NOS. |

quote: Rich - you would think I would feel the same way. But actually the nitrous wasn't the problem. I was! I knew and worried and posted about believing the fuel system needed to be upgraded. I thought by dialing the size of the HP shot down would be enough for the 1/4 mile. It was not. My experience at 1/8 mile where fuel supply was still adequate was wonderful. Loved the feeling, loved the power, loved beating all Vettes, Camaro, etc. I saw my gauge showing lean condition at end of 1/8 mile track runs and just did not spend the money to upgrade system - thought I would wait a few months - after the holidays. That is the problem - I was running too big a HP shot without upgrading fuel delivery. Got only myself to blame. If I had stuck with 75 HP shot - could have run low to mid 13's in 1/4 mile, do burnouts, etc. Also- I had higher burn point plugs in the trailer instead of in the car. A lot of good they did me there. Had the plugs not burned, I may not have had all the damage to the cylinders. Only other problem with nitrous nis it runs out. Still dollar for dollar - best performance upgrade in my opinion. It's no different from GaryC (sorry Gar) boosting the Paxton SC to 16 lbs and blowing engine or Butchee dialing twin turbos up to 18lbs and blowing head gasket. Marty, go get the rest of the 300M motor and install it under the manifold you already have, save the cat engine and check it to see if block is OK to build. Build a killer motor so when the next daily drivers comes along make the swap of 300M for killer. Junk yard 300 motor will be cheaper and should be able to find low mile one reasonable |

I understand there are some crucial differences with a 300 m motor though. |

Marty I understand what you are saying. The reason I said I was convined I did not want to go with NOS is that I am not a performance gear head. I want to add something for performance that is a no brainer, get decent performane without having to make fuel, plug or any other kind od adjustments. From what I have seen and or heard you make a minor mistake with NOS and you can lose big time. With my luck I would probably make some mistake with NOS and blow my engine. Not willing to go there. So I guess I will stay with no pain but no gain. |

Well Marty Ive got to say I can understand how you feel and the thought of giving up your car can be gut wrenching to say the least, as much as I like my new orange cat I can say that I miss the Black Cat very much, sometimes driving by a big glass window I look over thinking the flamed black kitty sure looked better then what I see now but in the end I do like the new cat however that first love will live within me forever Im sure. What ever you do I wish you the very best knowing you will come out on top . good luck my friend curtis ------------------ |
