I guess I never really thought about it but two things surprised me about the results of the poll on parking our kats at night. I knew a number of people use covers in their garages, but am surprised that number is so close to those that don't use covers in a garage. Secondly, even as one that drives their car daily and parks it in parking lots just like any other daily driver, I was surprised a few people park their cars outside without a cover. I do it on occasion when I travel, but not regularly. If I am surprised by this, I can't imagine how the people that won't drive their kat in the rain must react to this. Some people treat a precious possession as just that, and to others, it's just another car. ------------------ |

Todd - I think you are parially correct. The Prowler is my "Dream Car". My particular situation dictates that either I drive my car as a daily driver or not drive a Prowler at all. Driving it as a daily driver means I would go nuts trying to not drive in the rain, park away from all other cars, try to polish the chassis regularly, worry about everyday nicks, etc. Given the neccessity to drive as my primary transportation, I believe in my case I take better care of my kat than any of the previous 40+ vehicles I have owned. What I am trying to convey is everyone has their way of treating their car; some like you say as a precious possesion, others' not. It's just that their way of defining what precious treatment is depends on their circumstances. |

yep, and some people polish a daily driver daily, and others fill it full of trash. SOme people are considerate and others are not. Same idea, to me anyhow. |

I park the Alley Cat in the garage covered,,,,mainly because the top is down and Arizona is a dusty place to live. Dust gets into everywhere, so the cover is the added protection to reduce the work to clean the car up. I will not drive my cat on a rainy day, but I have been caught in the rain while attending events, and can live with those conditions. If my cat was my daily driver, I guess I would think like Marty,,,,,,scary thought lol. |

My kids bought me a fitted cover a couple of years ago and I have only used it a few times. I figure it is in the garage and the only time the door is open is when I am taking the car out, anyway. Maybe I am just too lazy, which is a distinct possibility. If I think it will sit for a long period I will cover it but the past few winters have been so mild I have been able to take it out virtually every month, at least once. |

I do exactly like alleycat, covered always. Caught in rain twice only at events. First time was ready to call a wrecker to bring it home. OH well, have to enjoy it some time. ------------------ |

I built a new garage oversized bay just for the cat. Then we get my wife an Excursion. Guess which is the only bay the “monster” fits in? So now the cat sleeps in the previous two car bay garage. My kids have had it “drilled” into them since as long as they could walk that a car isn’t a toy and there isn’t any reason to touch it other than to get in. But I still cover it when it’s sitting in there for more than a day just to get it a little bit more protection. ------------------ |

I keep mine covered in the garage to cut down on the dust and cleanup time also. I have to park it under the air conditioning air handler that is suspended from the roof trusses and in the hot summer (and not summer) Florida months it runs 24/7 and tends to drip condensation right on the hood. Those water spots really show up on a black car. I don't take it out when it's raining but have been caught while out many more times than I'd like to admit. |

Kendra - have a sheet metal shop make you a large pan to place under the A/C air handler to collect the drips,,,,,,and have it fitted with a drain bib to divert the moisture drips elsewhere (outside). CATS HATE WATER ! |

"To each his/her own" as the old saying goes. My Kat is my first automotive toy, so I'm a little anal about it. |

I keep mine in the garage but if it is dirty, I don't cover it. After I wash it, then it gets covered. ------------------ |

Until I moved (just before the Lousiville event) I was afraid to tell you guys that I parked mine outside, under only a carport (no garage). Now that I have a garage I guess I can come clean... I was going to get a car cover for winter if I stayed where I was. I probably won't cover it in the garage for the same reasons Ed stated. There is nothing like taking her out with the top down in February (that one or two days that Mother Nature allows)! Mike |

I hate to take the car out in the rain, but as my daily driver, it's that...or walk. Upon getting home on a rainy day, I at least will tamp the wet roof withan Absorber, and try to at least rinse the wheels. The metallic brake dust seems to rust instantly upon contact with water, and it looks horrible on the wheels. I think the most delicate item on the car that needs the most attention is the chrome wheels. I am working hard to not be one of those afflicted with pitting.... |

Black Tie, if you haven't switched to Raybestos dustless pads you ought to. Also get a Cal. water blade and you can get a lot of the water off of the cat in just a very few minutes. They have the water blade at WalMart, I think, about $ 15. It saves time and towels when you wash it, also. |
