Hi, All, I'm new here, and I live in the UK. I'm wanting to buy a prowler, but there are some things I wanna check with you all first. Could you do me a favour and answer these questions for me? 1) I intend to use my Prowler as my everyday car, is this advisable? I'm sure I'll think of loads more stuff, but I'm sure that'll do for starters!! Great forum, by the way! |

1) I intend to use my Prowler as my everyday car, is this advisable? yes but remember no storage to speak of and the tops tend to leak, many people do 2) What sort of MPG figures can I expect from a Prowler. 18 in town? highway I have seen myself 26[/26] 3) The car I'm looking to buy is a purple car first registered in 1999. The car has silver as opposed to chrome wheels. Does this mean that it's the 253bhp model, or is there a possibility of it being the 214? [b]I believe all 99's are 254 4) How do the cars handle? Great, the 2000 and above are away better ride 5) If the car is the 214bhp version, is there any way to upgrade it to the 253bhp or beyond for reasonable cash? not impossible, but save your money TGI, has them, about 3 grand american |

Will answer as much as I can....I have had 8 Prowlers...drive them everyday....not to good in snow or ice, but they can be driven.....some suffer from small water leaks around the top, mine are minimal at the worst.....lack of trunk storage may be a concern to some, but not for me....yes, they make a great everyday driver...why not have a fun time EVERYDAY....MPG, never really checked myself, but have seen others report in the low 20's....All 1997 models had the lower HP engine....all 1999 models have the 253HP enging....99 models came with both painted and chrome wheels on the purples so the wheel is not the easiest way to tell....just check the title to the car...will tell you what year it is...remember, there are NO 1998 models...handling is great, a little on the firm side, especially on the 97 and 99 models....2000 on up they ride softer....hardtops are available at TGF Metalcrafters(ad is own the POA website I think).......they look beautiful, and easy to put on and remove....seal pretty well also....makes it seem like a totally different car inside....you will like it !!! In short, the cars are not perfect in all ways and they do not suit everyones needs, but they are more fun than just about anything else you will ever own....get it and never look back.... |

Thanks for the info, Gary! The hard top looks great, might have to invest in one of those! You say the cars leak - this is a bit of a problem (one thing we ain't short of here is rain!), is there anything aftermarket I can add to the car to stop this? Also, you mention that the ride is better on 2000+ cars - you mean just the feel of the ride or the handling? |

Cool! Always liked the look of them since I first saw them when they were nothing more than a concept. How come there were no 1998's? Also - what is the performance comparable with that I might have driven already? I've had a 1982 Corvette and I've driven a C5 - somewhere in between? |

DarkSecrets - Stop light to stop light, it will run with a C5,,,,,not a Z06. No '98 - engine and numerous other little changes, maybe vendor delays?
ENJOY THE RIDE ------------------

A Weekender solves much of the storage space problem, and looks great too! |

Keep up with a C5?!? Fantastic! Notice how much of a Prowler fan I am - I'm looking to buy one even though I've never driven one. Mind you, that could be something to do with the fact that there are only about 10 prowlers in the UK!! Another question...! What "stuff" can I do to make it faster! (not nos, though - don't trust it!!). |

DS - gears, headers, supercharger, exhaust, etc. Depending on how much room in your billfold. Done making them. |

Darkskies, Great car, it's a joy. Handling and responsiveness very tight. One thing to consider for driving in UK - I have found wet roads to be treacherous, even with fairly conservative driving. I believe the car is skittish and very touchy on wet pavement, and presents severe hydroplaning challenges. Any other Kat owners find the same??? GO FOR IT!!!! JoeD |

Production stopped last Feb. Mike Krehel got THE last one. Suspensions were improved in 2001. 2001 and 2002 offers the best ride, while you can improve your 99 ride with a brace up front. There is a great selection on braces here. I would not even consider a Prowler if I did not have a garage to put it in. It is an excellent daily driver!! Good luck on your purchase! |

The reason there were no 1998's was because 1997 production was late in getting started due to some problems. By the time they went into production, Chrysler decided to skip the 98 model year. ------------------ Classic/Beautiful - I'm referring to the Cat of course! |

there is something to put on the glass so rain will not come in, ask AC about it. Get the car, you'll love every minute of it ------------------ |

Thanks for all the info, ppl! We have a garage, but the problem is that we currently have a show winning custom 1965 Beetle convertible imported from California in there! Based on the fact that it looks like they do leak, is the leakage likely to be just an annoyance, or could it cause problems with the car? I'm fairly sure that, all things being well, I'll buy the car, but then again, I was even before I came here! |

It is a minor annoyance. |
