Sorry to read about your motor. How bad is it hurt? How far did you have to drive to get it home? best wishes block-buster This message has been edited by cmblockhus on 10-15-2002 at 08:59 AM |

Curtis - it's hurt but driveable. When I tried to run a second time without nitrous it smoked up the track. As long as I take it easy (which is NOt my style) it is getting to & from work. The damage is speculated to be a piston. If they have to get into the engine, I will put better pistons in and Dean's upgraded fuel pump that I should have been smart enough to order before running a 1/4 mile. The Denso spark plugs I had in a box in our trailer may have helped also. At least I had them for Bob tgo install after pulling out three burnt ones! Marty |

Hey Marty-------doubt if its a piston if it only smokes when you get on it if you had a hole in a piston would make a strange noise and smoke all the time sounds more like some rings holding oil until you get on it then blowing by what ever it is hope all turns out ok for you block-buster |

Marty - what kind of plugs were you running when this happened? Was talking to a engine builder this morning that said not to use platinum plugs with NOS. I mentioned your problem and he thought you might have been too lean on gas? Just what I heard. |

quote: definitely running lean. Factory fuel pump can't keep up with demand for gas with larger shots of N20. I was running Autolite 5224 plugs - not platinum - but had Denso IQ20 's in box in trailer. They may have helped prevent this as they have 1000 degree higher temperature point. Hopefully when someone searches spar plugs for nitrous in future they will find this and spend the extra $80.00 for better plugs AND install them. My own stupidity in not putting them in or waiting to upgrade the fuel system resulted in the damage!! I think I will also stick to 1/8 mile tracks with future nitrous runs. |

No it is still running well enough to get me to & from work as long as I take it easy. I am trying to figure out which option is the best for having car checked & repaired while trying to balance need for spending little $$$ with wanting to upgrade components so it doesn't happen again. I will post when I finally get the car in to be worked on. To top things off, while I was out of town we had storm damage and downed trees on three rental houses plus tennants Marty This message has been edited by Marty Usher on 10-17-2002 at 01:30 PM |

Did a search for Denso and found an online vendor. Sorry - through the box away already and haven't received credit card statement yet to look at name. BTW - they ain't cheap - almost $90.00 for six with shipping. I guess that's cheaper than a engine rebuild, huh? This message has been edited by Marty Usher on 10-18-2002 at 06:49 AM |

Marty, Sorry to hear about your real estate problems. Did Wayne ever find a Prowler, or did his money go to more properties? Bob |

Hack - Wayne is the operatinf partner and property manager for our rental houses so he has deal with all the headaches. His own properties had 5 times more damage and he is the one who has to deal with tennents, and insurance companies. I just have to listen and let him vent and open the checkbook occassionaly to gert bthrough the rough spots of cash flow. He & Kimberly are not together at the present time ( who knows what's up with them) and she was the one pushing to drive a KAT. He still wants one but not top on his priority list at this time. Marty - I know those Denso's are expensive - $12 to $15 each. I have a friend looking for them and was just wondering where to go. Butchcee - where did you call to talk to Autolite person? I'm looking for a colder plug for my Dakota engine. |

Larry, I did an Autolite search and found a Q&A site direct from Autolite. No phone #'s available, just e-mail contact. I explained my situation, looking for a colder plug for the turbo install, and they gave me a phone # to call along with a contact person. When I called, they asked for my name that they had on a list connected with my question. Sorry, I no longer have the name or number. |

Al - thanks, I'll get ahold of the local Autolite sales rep if I can't find the answer from their website.
