Hi, I'm looking for a new daily driver soon. Since selling off all my other cars, i've been driving my 96 RT around town...while it's a blast, she's not exactly the best thing to be in durring rush hour. How are prowlers as daily drivers? What are their weaknesses? IE: Leaky roofs? any other "issues" with them (as with any roadster)? Thanks! |

It's not bad in the rain. At the most I get a very minor drip off the window....like one drop every 2 minutes. That can be solved with some RainX on the window and put some Armorall protectant on the roof seal. There are some places I can't go due to rough road (a lot of construction here) and unfinished business entrances where I scrape my fender flaps. The biggest downside is taking it for granted as opposed to a special car you only take out on weekends. Most of the time I can't figure out why people are staring so much, then I remember what I'm driving... |

Hey Mad, I use my Kat almost every day (except for when it rains) and I love it. It's very comfortable, great ride and really makes heads turn. |

I have a Viper RT/10.... I know leaking roofs  I have a 5 mile jaunt to work every morning... thats all that any vehicle I buy will do. I use the jeep for around-town or long distance stuff. MM |

I find using it at a daily driver is fine but parking the kat for eight hours is another story.Unless you have a private parking area with a shelter you may have a lot of finger prints and door dents. ------------------ New pictures in Personal Scrapbook (9/26/02) |

It really depends on what your willing to deal with. I used to use my Prowler as a daily, so I've experienced most of the issues you may have heard about. Nearly all Prowlers suffer from leaky weather seals, so as long as you don't mind the clean up, than this shouldn't be an issue (couldn't stand it myself). I feel it necessary to also mention a few performance issues, of which I'm sure I'll get burned for, but are vary important to note. First of all, I must say, the breaking system on the Prowler is, in my opinion, sub-par (compared to other sports cars I've owned or driven). This, I belive, is due to the fact that Prowlers do not have ABS and only the fronts are used for primary breaking (60 to 0 in 120 feet according to Car and Driver. Where as most sports cars do 60 to 0 in about 80 feet). Second, in rainy conditions, with stock tires, expect to hydroplane a lot. The stock tires may claim to be "all-season" but their not. I suspect driving in sleet or snow isn't any better but by this time my Prowler was a sunny day only car. As for over all handling, again compared to most main stream sports cars (Mustang, Corvette, Camaro etc.), the Prowler is still lacking. while it handles well on straight aways, it doesn't handle turns quite as well (similar to a Corvette) and unless the road is completely smooth (like a race track) you may end up fighting for control now and then (even with aftermarket frame braces) depending on how well, or poorly the roads in your area are maintained. Keep in mind, my experiences have been on what I consider to be some pretty crappy roads. Saint Louis roads just plane suck year round with hazards like oil slicks, semi-truck size pot holes and even the occasional couch or other house hold furniture. My personal opinion is that the Prowler, while an awesome ride, does not preform well enough to make a good (or even fair) daily driver and is far too expensive to be a daily. You, however, will need to come to your own conclusions. This message has been edited by Spyder on 10-08-2002 at 10:35 AM |

I park in a large open parking area, we have a security detail. I park the Viper out there all time, everyone here knows me and respects the car I know about getting leaked on... if you've ever had the pleasure of driving a RT/10 in the rain... you know the shower you get! And the 335s on the rear tend to hydroplane alot as well. And the ABS brakes, the viper doesn't have them either.. so they should be about the same line as far as "planning" my stops. What is a 97/98 prowler going for these days? MM |

Mad, You can get a 97/99 for about 30k-34k. Just as an FYI, they did not make a 98. In 99 they dropped a new engine in that increased the HP to 253 so I would say that the 99 or above would be better for you. |

quote: Look at eBay. Prices rarely get above $30K for 2000 year models. I could have boght a NEW 2001 mulholland for $34.5K The ride quality (shocks or something) changed in 2000 and according to most, makes it a better ride then pre-2000 models I ended up buying a brand new 2002 and paid only $38K for it. |

MadMaxx, I agree pretty much what everyone else said. Compared to the Viper, a Prowler is a pleasure to drive. You can sit back and relax and not worry the power bringing the back end around on you. To me it drives much like any other car. Forward visibility is even more limited then the Viper while side and rear view are about the same. The cockpit is a lot tighter with much less shoulder, arm and leg room. The front nose is harder to judge but could be easily adjusted to with daily driving. I'm sure the Prowler's A/C works 100% better then the Vipers. I think you'll enjoy it if you decide to get one. BTW, are you still planning on selling your white/blue RT/10? Take care, Howard |

I'm still up in the air about my RT/10. I want a GTS, but I'm using my RT for a lot of product testing right now. If I can, I hope to be able to pick up a Blue/White 96 coupe and turn the RT over to Jennifer. Prowler/Jeeps become daily driver duety. I have to find one around here to drive and see if I like it. I sat in a 01 a while back, very high belt line! MM |
