I was worried that I no longer had my emission system sticker under the hood. I got a copy from Blue Cat. I also switched my EGR bypass back to stock for the test. The guy didn't even open the hood. Said all he needed to know is the engine size. Heck I could have had my Cats removed and he would not have known. Live and learn.

In Arizona, cats are exempt free for five years, then they just plug into your computer box to see if a code for emissions comes up. My question: if disconnecting the negative side of battery erases the codes in the computer, couldn't I just do that before going to the emissions station???

Al- I'll take the emission testing over the six million "pot holes" that Michigan roads have to offer!

I got around the emissions by buying "collectors plates". Several other locals have, also.

Ed:

I asked about "Collectors Plates" here in Minnesota and was told I could get them ONLY if I drove the vehicle to and from car shows.

Since Jo Ann and I (as well as jo Ann and Jordan, our 3-year old) like to cruise once in while, we didn't qualify. Do the same rules apply in Ohio?

Kevin, I don't think so. I asked about them at the local registar and they told me I had to get them from the state. I had an 800 number and called and said I had a Prowler and she said Okay and gave me a temporary number to use until the plate got shipped. It came within two weeks I think. I didn't read the application. No one will stop you anyway. You can simply say you are going to a car show. How would they know?
I truly do not know the answer.
The reason I decided to get them was the fact that last year they could not get the computer to work at the emission joint so they gave me a "free Pass". This year they told me I needed an emission check. I said that I had gone last year but they said since it did not pass I had to go this year. I would be due to go back next year, since it is every other year. (Odd number cars on even number years so that it is simple.) lol. It costs either $ 20 or $ 30 every other year. What a joke. They were all leaning on the car last year and getting in and out of it. I was having a fit. That is my story and I am sticking to it.

Kevin,
Ohio used to have the stipulation, (200 miles/yr.) on the registration form for collector plates. Ed and I had the same conversation about limited driving. I applied for my collector plates after Ed told me he got his.
That stipulation has been eliminated from the forms.
To Eds' point, Who's going to check it anyway?
Lee
