I went back to the local 1/8 mile drag strip last night. Results were the ole' Good News/Bad News variety. The Bad news was my times were more than 2/10 slower than my best time two weeks ago. The good news is I beat the times of every street legal Corvette, Trans Am, and Camaro including two C-5's and one '82 supercharged Vette. I guess track conditions played a role in slower times as well a leaking exhaust header gasket. I drove twice below 8.5 seconds and my last run with low bottle pressure was 8.61. Gary Archer will probably post about my amazing 9+ second run when my foot slipped off the brake pedal as I was at the starting line and I redlighted by almost 1/2 second, but I'm not talking about that. my 60' times were consistant at 1.96 to 1.98 The highlight of the evening was a head to head run against a 2001 Camaro SS with headers, cold air/ram air intake, street slicks, computer chip, and head work done to car. My reaction time was .3 quicker than his and even though he ran 9 hundredths and 10 MPH faster, I still beat him to the finish line by more than 2 car lengths. ------------------ Driving my Dream |

Marty the big question I have is when you beat the Camaro did you get out and do a little yell shout and dance or just give him that classic Usher eye and fade into the shadows? |

quote: Sure Gary, I believe you NEVER would have mentioned that. It wasn't a battery problem, it was a loose cable problem compounded by the driver being stupid and not bring tools to remove the cover he had made and bolted over the space housing the battery. Isn't that what you meant? Bill - the KAT ran pretty well. It was great to hear one guy in Mustang GT tell one of his buddies he had seen me run two weeks ago and it was a lot faster than he thought and that he didn't know a 6 cylinder could ever run at the track like that. quote: GaryC - It was me that screwed up the launch and redlighted. I totally lost all composure, stopped, then took off when it turned green. Really not cool. I offered to let Gary Archer drive hoping he would be the one to blow up the car and pay to rebuild it, but he declined! My reaction times are getting better. This not a NHRA track so times are measured differently. Mine were between .06 and .17 (except for redlight run) This message has been edited by Marty Usher on 09-12-2002 at 10:01 AM |

Marty, Great job at the track! Your 60 foot time is quite impressive. How big of a shot of nitrous were you running and how far down did your fuel pressure drop? ------------------ |

Mike - I am hoping for better conditions next time I go. Two weeks ago I ran a 8.251 with 1.86 60' time and I couldn't come close this time. My fuel pressure gauge is obviously not working becasue it sits on 61 when you start and only drops to 58 or 57 during a run. I think the sending unit must be bad. My air/fuel gauge pegged lean on my first run at just about the 2 to 3 shift. On my last run it was still flucuating in the "normal" to rich area, but I think I was runnning low on N20. My exhaust header gasket is now leaking much mire than before I ran and hopefully the new ones from Paxton will be here Friday. The fuel gauge is going back to Jeg's under warranty. The bottom line, it was fun and I can see myself getting hooked. |

Way to go Marty!!! I see you are keeping up your end of the bargain!!! Since you are getting hooked. Are you going to start figuring out how to drop the weight on the Kat? Like remove front fenders (for aerodynamics), Different Mags (weight) etc? Next thing, you'll be putting a chute & wheely bars on the Kat As far as the tools... Since Gary has been joining you to the strip - make him a part of the pit crew & throw him a wrench... This way you can stay focused on beating everything you line up against & he can scrape up his knuckles Your 60' times are quite impressive. Track & weather conditions will play havoc with your eta & consistency as well. Keep tearing them up Marty & TeamUsher. WildBill This message has been edited by WildBill on 09-12-2002 at 03:04 PM |

Bill - Gary DID have to use the wrench last night - AFTER he took one out of a guy's tool box. My battery cable was lose and I had a plate installed over it. KATS don't look good sitting on the sidelines while otheres are out on the track playing!! |

quote: Did the guy know he took it??? As far as sitting on the sidelines, I know what you mean... My Kat died on the highway as I was taking her to get inspected. Very embarrassing very frustrating. Had a basic idea of the problem, but did not know the solution right away... Wires to my fuel pump came loose causing it to act like she ran out of gas... Vette owner drove by, pointed & laughed... What I would have done if the Kat started right at that moment... WildBill |

Marty, Way to go! Beware, Try http://www.portatree.com . PC based systems are effected too much by screen refresh rate, CPU, keyboard, etc to be of much value beyond a tee hee. Try a dedicated stand alone device like the Eliminator 2000 Plus. You can even use an output to a christmas tree and they're now offering a Snap-in weather station for use at the track to provide trackside data logging with weather readings. |
