We are planning a trip to pick up our Kat next week and to have the adventure of driving it home.

My question is... If there are 2 of us in the car, approx what kind of space will we have for baggage etc.
We are thinking we can get by on the trip with 2 small carry on type bags.

Any suggestions for cross country trips would be great!

I really don't want to get there and be strapping our bags to the bumpers

Kala,
Two SMALL, VERY flexible that you can smash down to 3" to 6"
at the most, they can be rather large the other way, like a garment bag. Here is a picture of my trunk area the two chairs are the red bags at the bottom.

Kala like Bob says I found that garment bags work just great, I used 2 of them on my trip last year to Deadwood plus I had room for all my cleaning stuff also. One other thing if you look at the picture Bob posted you will see the straps holding down the top make sure you use those helps keep the top from rubbing and if someone else could post a pic or explain better that me about putting a piece of towel or cloth on the top of the convertable to protect it when the deck lid is closed, I've found you can put a lot of stuff in the trunk if you use a bit of imagination and just make sure the deck rods at the bottom don't hit on anything that will keep them from laying down which could cause your deck lid to not close properly and which could cause it to pop open when driving.

Have a great trip take lots of pics, this trip will be put more smiles on your face than you can imagine enjoy it big time

Kala - I've been able to get one, stuffed, fold in half garment bag into the trunk on long trips. But the best idea I've seen is to put your 'stuff' into zip lock bags to travel. This will provide you with the most amount of 'stuff' for the room available. You might have to UPS your original luggage bag home, but that is the fun of it, your imagination. You only need one pair of underware for a three day trip. Day one, wear normal, Day two, wear it backwards, Day three turn it inside out

Is this your first Prowler? If so, plan on fuel stops every 200 to 250 miles, and stretch your legs,,,,,take some CD's. As PK said, be sure the trunk shocks clear your luggage when closing the trunk lid. This will be a fun adventure for the two of you!

BTW - WELCOME to the POA! Join us often, feel free to ask questions here, and add your input to any topic.

ENJOY THE RIDE

If you have time and want to see if your luggage will fit in the back of a kat - I live in Piru which is a short drive from Ojai. Jim & Cathy Stallings live in Oak Park but I don't know how often he is on the site nowadays.

We have fit a garment bag folded in the trunk easy. I think conventional carry-ons might be too thick.

If you want, give me a call 805-521-1727.

All above posts are correct except you can save some space by leaving the underware at home. Don't take travel bags other than folding garmet bag. Your first new purchase should be a hitch with luggage rack or a weekender. Jerry

Thanks to all of your input... We now understand our options.

Either
A) Buy underwear daily, toss out used panties at rest stops.
B) Drive nude. (no need for baggage)
C) Buy a garment bag

I'm so grateful for this web site. It wasn't just the car that inspired us, it is also fun reading POA.

Cliff we will call you...

Thank you all...

Kala, If you want to check out the space available, give me a call 649-1377. We live in Oak View. Be happy to meet you someplace in town. Forgive Cliff for mistaking it for Oak Park. He lives out in Piru, think that explains it all. LOL
Cliff, you are right, haven't been here much lately. Can't seem to get caught up at work.

Kala - If I made you smile today,,,,I'm happy. Don't listen to that Ed Monahan guy,,,he is full of BS.

Be sure to call Jim or Cathi Stallings (phone # above). You'll want to check out their cat trunk space,,,,and the beautiful flame job on the car. Really great people!!!

Cliff, Thats the difference between Oak View and Piru. At least you get to blink once and still see the town. Last time we were over your way, we drove thru Piru and never even saw it!

Kala, Best way to handle the baggage issue would be to call the dealer and have him install a hitch, then call Bob at Real Rod and have a weekender sent to the dealer. Problem solved. Next, order a trailer and your set.

Alley Cat, Are you calling me a flamer? Saw the picture CJ posted of you on one of the other posts, something about people picking on you. Was that taken at your family reunion?

Don't forget the most important item. Have the dealer install mud flaps on the front before you leave. Very important item to have. Can't believe Alley Cat didn't warn you about this already. Must be old age setting in. Hope Mike doesn't see this Larry, it just might cost you your job as caretaker of the museum, maybe even put Ed back in the running for the job.

Thanks Jim... I read the all the posts about the flaps... Is there a way I can be sure that they are installed correctly?

Kala,

Until someone comes up with a definitive answer, I suggest one strip of 2" duct tape placed vertically on the inside of the fender butting to the inside edge. Start from the highest point of where the flap will cover and go down to the bottom. This will protect the two areas that I reported are wearing the paint away. As others have observed, these spots that wear are hidden by the flaps, so you may not want to bother.

I think if I didnt have a trailer I would try the eatable panties I saw on an Victoria Secrets ad, dont know what Kathy would think of that but!!!!!!!!!!!!!

yes you can really get a lot in the trunk if you just stop and look, but I gotta say the trailer is the answer but you still need to pack it right

have fun you will love the new cat

Stallings - we were friends! After all the nice things I said about you and your cat above,,,,,,,,,then you ask if that picture was of my family reunion

Mike knows he has the best person (me) for the curator's job, and I work cheap! Ed was ruled out many months ago,,,,you have to be able to count to twenty-five accurately,,,,,for the daily inventory count of Mike's car stable Besides, he talks to himself and would bore the tourist with his Cincy Reds' stories.

BTW - what was this thread about? Edible panties?

Kala, you can put a few small items under the seats and behind the seats. Put them in a zip loc bag and they will slide easier and stay clean and dry. (I used to be named Heloise) You can stick a pair of blue jeans or a couple of T-shirts under the seats, easily. When you get the car, you will be willing to throw away most of your clothes. You won't care about that, at that point.
