Sorry to piggy back on your thread, but is anyone having the same problem with the bottom of the trunk lid rubbing on the body?

I have a problem with the drivers door rubbing against my side panel. I have to adjust my side panel forward a little and that will take care of it. I guess when I took it off last time, I didn't push it far enough forward.

jm...1, Per manual:

On trunk hinges:

Horizontal pair of bolts (on body):
up/down, left/right

Vertical pair of bolts (on lid):
forward/rearward, left/right

Per me:

If it's under warranty, let the dealer do it. If you do it yourself, use 6-point sockets or you'll take the paint off the corners of the bolts.

Get the trunk clearance, alignment and seams exactly the way you want it; position and grease the two chrome pins at the front corners of the lid, and tighten the center catch, if needed.

The reason to have the dealer do this is that after adjusting the trunk, the top may leak (moving the lid up and forward loosens the top). You'll want the dealer to check the top and adjust it as well, BUT ONLY AFTER THE TRUNK IS PERFECT.

I had a lot of grief, first the trunk, then the top, then the trunk, then the top` . . . ., and wish I knew this then. GET THE TRUNK PERFECT, hope he top doesn't leak but, if it does, take it in the proper order.

Damn. My top has never leaked (bought in March), and my dealer is 3 hours away...

The local dealer I want to buy an extended warranty from will not do any warranty work in the first (evaluation) year.

JM....1,

Let's see what we can do here.

First of all, with the dealer 3 hours away, GET A SERVICE MANUAL. ESSENTIAL FIRST MOD! If you get into this, it tells you how to adjust the glass, top seals and top tension.

Second, is there a good Dodge dealer locally, preferably one that handles Vipers? They seem to have the appropriate respect for the Prowler.

Next, you can easily give it a try yourself. Mark around all 8 boltheads with a felt-tip marker so you can see the amount of adjustment (and also, you can back-out if needed). Make sure that the marker you use can be removed with alcohol - test on the underside of a fender or some other non-visible location.

USING A 6-POINT SOCKET, go for it. The specs call for 6mm around the sides and rear of trunk lid; 5mm vertical seam behind door (only the short edges of the trunk, about 4" each side, is involved here).

The above isn't difficult, but don't expect absolute perfection (if you do, Dave Mills is the one to write to and he'll tell you how to adjust fenders and all of the body panels. A bit too much for me).

Give it a try. With your dealer 3 hours away, you're going to have to be more self-sufficient (and again, the manual is a NECESSITY!)

Mike - I think that dealer is BSing you about warranty work the first year. Adjustments = rattles, alignment, yes,,,,,warranty replacement work, no,,,,,,,they should work on the car for you. I'd call DC Service Zone representative for a clarification on that.

Have your Prowler tech adjust the hood... I had the same problem and the dealer fixed the issue.

It's not that the dealer I bought the car from is doing anything wrong, they're just 3 hours away. They mailed me the center cap when that broke.

I want to get the extended warranty more locally, and the dealer I would like to work with (multiple Prowler certified mechanics) has a policy of not doing warranty work in the first evaluation year when they did not sell you the car.

I didn't realize that any dealership could turn you down for warranty work on your car. To my knowledge that's covered under the Interstate Commerce Commission codes and they can't do that. Somebody correct me if I'm wrong here. Tami

1) a five star dealer should help you no matter what. That's why I drove 50 extra miles to buy from a 5 star

2) I know Jerry has a problem with the trunk hitting the back of the door, and he bought some door trim to protect it.

3) My roof mechanism wears the paint off the trunk around where the yellow release button is (approx.) on both sides. there is some rubbing there.

I'd be very interested to know if this is true!

Thanks!

Mike, that dealer needs to be set straight about Chryslers warranty policy, if your car is still under factory warranty and they have certified mechanic that can work on your car they have to perform the work. How do I know this, well I just called Chrysler customer service and told them of your problem, if I was you I'd call them at 1-800-992-1997 and have them call that dealer.

I have owned G.M. cars and trucks for over 30 years and have never had a dealer give me that line of B.S, I've haven't had any problems ( except for those poorly designed center caps ) with my Prowler but it will be the last Chrysler vehicle I ever buy. Good luck with your problem.

Al,

Thanks a lot. I think I'll try calling the dealer directly first and talk to the guy I've dealt with before. I do want their shop to maintain the car, but not if they're going to lie to me...
