Has anyone purchased a car off ebay? Any warnings or suggestions about this would be appreciated.

Sometimes even a carfax won't show damage if not reported to insurance. Check the BBB on the seller (if a dealer). Check their website and see what other kinds of cars they are offering.

I've been told by a number of sources that alot of cars on eBay (not all) are ones dealers couldn't unload any other way for a variety of reasons.

Have them send you a ton of pics on the car and would highly recommend taking it to a local mechanic that specializes in those. I did this long distance with a ferrari ($160.) and it saved me a ton of money. Turned out the car had alot of faults lingering that the dealer "didn't know" was there. Best $160 I have ever spent and it saved me almost $100K. Whew!!

And finally, if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is so you better pass.....

I purchased my Kat on e-bay auction on July 4,and I find it all depends on person that is selling as to how well everything goes.If you find seller to be dishonest when you contact and recieve pictures then stay away.Always have a qualified person inspect before bidding.I am very happy with mine.

I sort of did. Last year when I bought my Kat, I bid on the car, didn't meet the reserve, but talked with the owner afterwards (a dealer), and wound up paying $100 more than my final bid.

Bought mine last year on ebay - no problems. Just check out the car carefully and don't let your emotions block out or keep you from noticing any problems before you pay.

I agree with Gene. Do an inspection.
I used Inspection Solutions. I was ready to move on what appeared to be a great deal. I had photos and all. Inspection Solution found the back tires were totally worn and the car had been wrecked and repaired. The repairs were done so the fact that the frame was rewelded was masked.
This was the best $99.95 I have spent in a long time!

I found my Silver Prowler on Ebay. It did not make reserve in the auction. I saved the info and called the dealer (it was new) a couple of weeks later. I had him send me several photos. Worked out a nice deal and had it shipped to me. It went very smooth.

Been there done that. I agree with all of the above. Let everyone know where the car is and have a prowler owner check it out for you. No one knows the cat like a current owner. Then fly out (or drive )to see the car if it checks out okay. You will not be able to see the small stuff in pictures. I bought a car off ebay and the guy told me that the interior was perfect because he had taken such good care of the car. He didn't tell me that the seats had been replaced (the leather was different than what came in that year car but only someone who knows what the cars SHOULD look like would have caught it.) You can get a good car off ebay but be careful.
