I got my car back from the dealership today for the belt problem. As I walked up they told me the car was ready and it had just been washed. =O I never let anyone wash my car but myself. I didn't think they were going to do it so I didn't tell them not to. I get my car in the sun and it literally looks like someone took an SOS pad and scrubbed it from front to back. I can't believe how bad the marks look. And on a Candy Red it looks 10x worse. I am SO PISSED OFF right now. They still haven't gotten back to me after I told them about this. What can I do to fix this without a brand new paint job? And what should I make the dealership do? |

Talk to the service manager. The will most likely rub it out. Good luck! ------------------ |

If the dealer won't take care of it (which they should) you can try Meguires Scratch X or 3M fine cut swirl remover. I've used both on my Black Kat and they worked wonders. You'll be suprised how well the do work. GOOD LUCK! |

Well just talked to them. I really don't like their attitude. This is Jack Powell in Escondido. The service manager told me they have a detailer that will rub it out like you said. My only thing is they're the one's that ruined it in the first place. I told him a real professional job will cost upwards of $300. That's to get it smooth like glass again. He told me they wouldn't do it and the detailer can stick it cuz his guy will do it for free. WTH? I should be sueing for a brand new paint job. I wish I had a camera so I could post pics of what it looks like now. I'll see if I can borrow one. |

amc... Usual disclaimer (not a lawyer, only my own experience, hope this helps, yada, yada, yada). Assuming you have Comprehensive insurance ("Other than collision"), call your insurance company, make a claim, and tell them you know who did it. They will send an appraiser out to do an estimate to return the car to pre-damage condition. Sounds like $6-8,000 to me if it needs to be repainted (do some research on that candy apple - it's UNIQUE, some kind of sparkles suspended in a translucent carrier). Your insurance company should pay you, no questions asked, and then THEY go after the guilty party. The key is the professional appraiser playing the role of referee. Where I live (VA), there's no penalty (raise in rates) for filing a Comprehensive claim since you were not at fault. Hope this helps. It worked for me. -GRROWL |

Not to be a rearend here but I find it hard to believe that one wash can do all that damage that you said happened. I too am very critical, (and own show cars before you think anything else), and can't fathom how one car wash can do all that unless someone had sandpaper in the wash mit. One light polish should put your car back into shape. Remember that our Prowler paint jobs aren't too good anyway and don't have a whole lot of depth. My point here that perhaps you're making a big deal out of perhaps a small problem. I agree that if your dealer doesn't help you out that you should persue it but I would give him a chance to fix it himself first with his own detailer. If the job is not up yo your satisfaction then let an outside detailer re-do it and then take the dealer to small claims court if you're so inclined. I'm NOT a fan of factory dealers in general but, being in the auto business give him a chance first to rectify his mess, then go after him if necessary. JRL |

I fully agree with JRL ... after all, the dealer "meant well" in his washing of your car ... Same thing happened during a recent oil change on my "Last '99" Vette. I was VERY upset when I saw the "auto wash" thingy, but then found out they hand washed it ... still would not have requested it ... same as you, nut no harm no foul. Go the dealer's detail route, document and see what happens after that. If still not satisfied, point it out right away, have it re-done by your guy and present the bill. If they don't pay, try the GM or then SC court. Good luck in any event. Sux! |

JRL, believe me, I was literally shocked! at how bad it looked afterwards. I didn't think one wash could do that but if the entire rag or towel used was dirty or fell on the ground it could very easily make a lot of marks. Especially if they used the wrong type of towel. It looks like it was dried with a shop towel. I have some pics to show. The car looked brand new with minimal swirls before this. I know many that have seen the car can attest to that. Now in these pics I will post you will see lots of haze marks which shows how bad the streaks are. |

Here they are if this works. I tried to make them as small as possible without losing detail. I've had this car since March of this year. I live in sunny San Diego so there hasn't been too many times I've needed to wash the car. So you can get an idea of the kind of damage that was done. I had the same thing happen to mine a few months ago. They had DUSTED it off with a shop rag. Hood and Rear Deck was swirl city. I reported it and the management and they were as up set as I was. They offered to rub it out. I did it my self . Look great again. I am in Houston, Good Luck Jim R |

I can't believe they would give it back to you in that condition. You have every right to be ticked off. It will very likely buff out but you should get some free oil changes or certificate for parts or something. |

A professional should be able to make it look as good as new. I would not want it repainted unless last resort. It will scratch much easier with repaint. There is so many good products on the market for clear coat I would be mad but keep your cool and try to get them to allow pro to do it. If they have good detailer at the dealer they should be able to do it ------------------ |

Most of the time that is surface scraches in just the clear coat.If the info above doesn't help you get it out a good body shop should be able to buff the clear coat back to a gloss as long as none of the scraches are into the paint color. Hope this helps. ------------------ |
