At 732 miles I saw the speedo at 132 and I backed off. Felt like it wanted to "float" a bit.. That was with stock gears..

130ish, there is a fuel or computer shut off at this speed, the light feeling that Fred is talking about is the front fenders trying to lift the front of the car at speeds of 100 plus. NOT the most stable car at these speeds. Please be vey careful.

Enjoy

I thought the tires were Z rated.... I'm nearly 100% sure that if they aren't Z rated they are still rated over 130 mph.....

Gary C was right, I was pushed my KAT to 120 too almost lost control when I hit small bump, scared my wife to death.

Now I installed lower and upper braces on, seem to be help at 95, I was scred to do 120 again.

The tires are not Z rated. I don't even think they are Y rated. I believe they are V rated tires or H rated. Which would let them go up to about 130-149 mph depending on which they are. Have to look at my tires when I go outside. They aren't the best performance tires and sadly I've searched for better tires and haven't found much on the market.

According to Tirerack, the Goodyear GSD-EMTs are V-rated, which they define as up to 149 MPH.

If you plan to be driving the Cat that fast, then it is a good idea (I am told) to remove the front fenders to reduce lift.

I have had her up to 125 - 128 a few times, allegedly... The first time I got up to that speed, I did not realize I was going that fast. My passenger tapped me on the shoulder & pointed to the speedometer. I was almost at 115 at that point then felt... "Well since I am already there"...
She handled really nice too... I was able to maneuver really easy in light scattered traffic, like I was doing 25... I did hit a bump & the Kat did feel like it got a little light, but no problems controlling her and that was before I put in the brace.

It was stated somewhere that the US Cars were governored at 130 because of the tires rating. The Canadian Kats do not have to governor and are capable of much high speeds. Some have said the Kat get squirly over 130. Mike K tested a chip that elinated the governor and said his experience was the Kat got squirly. So I tell people 130 becuase of the governor and the speed rating of the tires. Works for me.

Rich, I tell them 175 and use the same reasons. It just sounds better than 130. The first question is usually "How much does that cost?"

Back road one time, "Kat" got out of control and passenger said 120 mph. Car handled great, plenty of peddle left but value life so no more, was exciting though!!

I had the Paxton Prowler 138 in Deadwood. Fuel shut-off disconected. Car was all over the road and had to stop for the up coming exit.

I had the car up to 145 MPH according to the speedometer in the commuter lane of I-95 (North of Ft. Lauderdale) trying to catch a Porsche Boxster S. I was coming down an incline from an over pass when I reached 145 mph. The gas pedal does not work at that speed and will not work again until you drop below 135 mph.

The front end was a little light at that speed, but the sound of the air hitting the rear wide fenders and forcing the air up (right behind your head/ears with the top down) was deafening. Overall the car felt pretty good.

I hit 100 once in the Kat... no biggie. I'm not into top speed. But since we're sort of on the subject.... A friend of mine took me for a ride in a Renn Tech Mercedes E 7.4R 625hp V-12
We hit an indicated 200mph!!!! on a long stright back road. He admitted the speedo was a little off though.... We were actually going faster! It was really stable and stright. Was almost like a dream though. The same car was tested in Car & Driver at 212mph some time later.

I'm stationed in Germany and 100 on the autobahn is nothing in these cars. Granted your gas milage does goto 10 mpg. At 120 you get 7 mpg in case anyone was wondering. And at 130 you get 5 mpg. Because of that I normally drive at 90 where I get a massive 15 mpg. I have a totally stock 02 and notice no problems at 100-120. Above 120 it does feel kind of shakey. I agree that I didn't buy the car for top end performance. Of course I didn't buy it for bottom end either, I bought it for driving and getting looked at more than any other car out there.
