My auto insurance agent tells me the trailer is covered by the cars policy for liability in case I run it into something. To get it covered for colision, meaning if I am responsibly for an accident, insurance will cover it requires an additional policy which is subject to a separate deductible unless I pay an even higher premium for no deductible. What has everyone else with a trailer done. Since I will only use the trailer about 1/2 dozen times a year, I am inclined to not buy the additional policy and risk being really PO's at myself if I wreck it. Marty, I haven't received my trailer yet, but after checking with State Farm, I will self-insure the trailer for collision and theft. Like you I hope to h#ll that I don't wreck it. |

In either case, my question is with the limited use is the risk worth the cost of an additional policy? I believe I will let the car policy cover any liability and accept the risk myself. Marty |

I did insure my trailer. I only use it part time also, but I decided it was better to insure it (actually since Brenda is my insurance agent, she just did it and told me afterward). |

Mine is fully covered while sitting for loss of any type or unhooked from the car then is covered by the car when towing, both the cat and the box are with state farm and the cost was like nothing but I pull mine around alot, as in sept to ok city, montana last year and all over ca all the time, worth the cost.

State Farm is insuring my trailer for $27/every six months. That includes theft and if I run over someone's big toe. I think it's $100 deductible. What I don't know is if it covers beer spoilage due to a flat tire? |

Thanks Curtis and BuddyBrad. My insurance on the KAT is with State Farm, so it looks like coverage will be affordable. Thanks Marty ------------------ Driving my Dream |

Just dont worry about your trailers, also think about all the other mods that you have done to your Kat's... Remember your ins policy covers only what the vehicle comes with from the factory, so if you have added custom paint, wheels, spoilers, anything that you have purchased after the fact, you are going to want to make sure that they will be covered also. This is usually called Custom Parts and Equipment coverage (CPE). I would not recommend telling them about your nitrous kits, as this would be an engine enhancing mod and could result in an big increase in premium |

THen you are truly missing one of the greatest power increasing tools. Think how many nitrous tanks could fit in there |

I may be the first person to actually file a claim using the insurance I bought on the trailer. Driving to the Woodward celebration last year, I ran over a piece of metal that jumped up and caught the lower end of the trailer. Fixing it cost me $50.00 on my deductible. The job to repair it was around $350.00. Guess my first several years of insurance premiums paid off right off the bat. Oh, yes, I have State Farm for all my vehicles. |
