I've got a blue prowler and want to do something to the grille or with the grille.I like the grille from M&L buts its a bit pricey at 1300.00. Any suggestions! Has anyone chromed their grille. What is the chrome molding treatment I've heard about.
Thanks
Mike T.

Custom Coatings (in Florida) will chrome your stock grille. phone # 850-562-3847. Search for pictures of Larry Mayes' Wildcat... This grille is awesome. Price is in the neighborhood $400 or $500. This is what I am planning to have done.

Here's one pic of the WildCat next to my stock grille:

TGF also has a nice grill. Not as pricey, but not cheap either. You can see a good picture of that grill in my post today about the Sasy side panels. You can also have your factory grill chromed. The only company I am aware of that is willing to do it is here in Florida. They are Custom Coatings, 805-562-0538. I recently sent my factory grill to them. They did another factory grill for me a few years back that I returned once because of the quality. When it came back it was fine. Others on this board have used them with mixed results. They are under new ownership however and I have been told (by them) that the quality issues have been addressed. Hope this helps you.

Or if you want to save $390 to $490 another alternative Pep Boys chrome door edge molding $9.00 for a 20ft roll.

Here's a pic of the "chrome door edge molding" version:

Looks pretty good in a pic - but in person, no comparison to the custom coating grille...

Be very careful when dealing with Custom Coatings!!!!!
Jim Angle still doesn't have his grill back from them. It's been over 4 months and he has called them every week. Always another excuse and never a grill sent. It was supposed to be a 6 - 8 week turnaround.

You've been warned!

I delt with Custom Coatings and am VERY pleased with the end result. Took slightly longer than anticipated, but I ddin't try and have it done during their "peak auto" season either ... could be why ome people experience longer turn around than others. I could have done a little le with their "attitude", but I wanted their assurance of "perfection" for my Kat's grille ... they thought I was going overboard ... but as I said, results look GREAT!

The are several reasons I went with the door edge molding.

If I removed my grille and shipped it to be chromed I would either have to drive my Kat without the grille (I don't think so) or have several weeks of down time. In the South I do not have to do winter storage Edited looks like that should be changed to months.

I could buy and extra grille and ship it to have it chromed ,but now I would be approaching a $1000 expense
(Possibly someone might have an extra grille to lend you to get around this or the down time metioned above)

While the chromed stock grille is superior looking, the cost factor outweighed in my opinion the appearence difference. Until I tell people it is door molding they don't know it. One of my Hot Rodder friends thought I had purchased an expensive grille.

Lastly if I didn't like it I was only out $9

truth is... the $9 grille really did look a lot better than I thought it would... (but, personally, all things considered, I still prefer the custom coating grille).

I bought a second grill and sent it to Custom Coatings late January of this year. I received it back mid-March, but the chrome was already peeling off when I received it.

I sent it right back to them, and had been told that they were having trouble with the copper they were using. In my last conversation with them (last week) they said they had changed the process and hopefully it will correct the problem they were having. If all goes well, my grill will finally be shipped on Friday (good thing it wasn't my only grill or I wouldn't have been so patient).

They seem like nice folks at Custom Coatings, but 5 months is a heck of a long time to wait. I'll post the final results when I receive my grill. They told me there were also 4 other Prowler grills in their shop to be chromed. The cost was $400 (plus shipping).

Good luck!

I like the M&L grill but prefer my stock grill Chromed by custom coating.

In dealing with people here in indy on polishing parts for my Dart I think it has to due with the BUSINESS. They have had my parts since april 1st,(that could be my problem) and I should be able to pick up the last of 16 pieces tomorrow.
