Who's going to be getting a 2003 Chevy SSR? Word on the street is the 2003 SSR will have an all-aluminum Vortec 5.3 liter V8 engine with its Hydramatic 4L60-E automatic transmission, rear wheel drive and be priced in the mid-30's

I'll probably end up with one just as long as one can be had for MSRP or less... I don't believe in dealer mark-up unless it's a one of a kind vehicle. I wouldn't get rid of my Prowler for it though.. How much over MSRP do you think the dealers will be charging? Ron This message has been edited by 01Prowler on 06-24-2002 at 12:06 PM |

Hope I'm not bursting bubbles. Read an article about the new plant in Lansing MI to build these beauties...has been delayed in building the plant and won't be completed until 2005. Environmental Issues. All and look out...with Lutz and Nesbit and others now working for GM you should see more cool stuff from them... Plant tours will be boring... because 10,000 - 12,000 units per year.... not hand built like the Prowlers. Good news for us if it is going to be delayed until 2005. |

Already on the list for one of the 3 that the my local dealer will be getting late 2003. As stated above the SSR is on schedule for 2003, not 2005. Take a look at http://www.ssrinfo.com/ I will not be getting rid of the prowlers. |

I have already heard dealers are quoting 5-10 K over sticker markup. I don't know how long that will last. It is very cool looking but it's not in the same league with the Prowler style wise (which is rolling art). I am waiting for the PT Turbo Convert. ------------------ |

I would really like one as well. I do think I will wait for the second model year though. Let them work out the bugs first. Let them put chrome wheels on it. Make the modifications that will come from the first year of production. Just look what they did to the Prowler. |

quote: I retired from the main G.M. plant in Lansing so the plant tour I'm talking about isn't your everyday tour. Like I said the SSR is a go, they will start producing them later this year as 2003 models. I've always liked the street rod look that's why I bought a Prowler, to me the SSR is street rod as well. No offense to anyone but the SSR will be built as good if not better then the Prowler even if they build 10K a year. Blue Tie #1 have to agree with you about the chrome wheels and I think there will be a few more pony's under the hood for the 2004 model, I really wouldn't worry about them working the bugs out.....as I said it will be built as good if not better then the Prowler. |

quote: Keep in mind that Lutz is under contract for only 3 years and has about 2 1/2 years left. Typically, it takes 3 to 4 years to bring a concept vehicle to production. Should be interesting to see what Lutz is able to accomplish with such a short amount of time to work with! |

Ford is comming out with a new truck called the Tonka between now and 2005. Think this will be my new truck. For a look go to ford.com enter tonka in the search area and click. |

If the SSR comes out next year the 2003 year will only have 3000-5000 units and will be well over sticker price at the dealers. By 2005 GM will be producing 10,000-12,000 a year and they will be more common then the Prowler. I love the Prowler because it is a rare gem. |

The SSR was my 'original' quest.... my intent for a coupla years to get one... went to a show in Milw that had one in March this year.... Was very disappointed in the 'real thing'.... the operation of the 'convertible top' was very choppy.... (think moving broken parts, problems) and THIS, the disappointment, is what led me to get the Prowler! Dang glad !!! And, for some reason, I thought the price would be MUCH lower than mid-30s.... seems this vehicle should be competing with the likes of the Cruiser, JMO. |

I also love the look of the SSR. I needed a new truck last year and thought of holding out for one, but it is really just another 2 door sports car. I needed family room so we got an Avalanche. The SSR, I hear, should have the same 5.3L that is in the Avalanche. 285hp - 340ft-lb torque. That pulls the Avalanche around nicely (5300lbs) and should scoot the SSR very well also. I also may be interested in a couple of years. |

I like the looks OK and even though the back will haul more than the Prowler, I like the Prowler look better. If I decide to buy a truck it will be the full size Dodge with Viper engine -black or course and I will paint flames that match the Prowler. Marty ------------------ Driving my Dream |
