Im about to purchase a 99 Prowler. Are there any big differences between the years. I heard suspension was a thing but is it really that differnet that even a good deal on a 99 would not be worth it.

I also heard headers were different, but does that matter?

Lastly, im always scared about buying the first year production because they gennerally work out all the bugs in the following years so is a 99 worth it or should i hold out for a 2000+

Thanks Jason

I have had my '99 for four years and I am quite happy with it. The 99's do ride stiffer, but I don't mind it...its a hot rod. The newer models do have some other options not available in the 99 like the computer trip meter and stuff in the mirror. 1997 was actually the first year for production. I wouldn't be afraid to buy a 99.

I'm fine with my '99 hot rod Prowler ride. The '99s have a much stiffer ride and sit lower to the ground. The '2000's have the compass temp mirror, the volume speed radio, a chrome shift bezel and a somewhat larger gas tank.

I'm happy with my '99..it has advantages over later production Prowler models including a lower ride and most have satin finish control arms.

Any year or any color you chose will be fine and you will not regret it.

Go for it!

the motor is what has been used for a few years in LH series cars.

The trans is one used in Eagle

Brakes off Mini van

The Prowler was put together with several of the parts already in the parts bin. They made changes along the way. There isn't a bad on made. Just some have some things others don't. I like the ride height of the `99 (lower) but the ride of the 2000 is better. I like the mirror & radio of the 2000, but the a arms on the early 99.

So pick the color you like and go for it, YOU WILL NOT BE SORRY....unless the joker type smile bothers you...LOL

Early `99 owner...I will have had my car 4 years next month

I love my 99, but I wouldnt care what year I bought haveing a Prowler is what it is all about, just get one and you will see what we mean. However when I get another (soon I hope) I will get a 01-02 only because of the warranty and at the same time I will keep my 99 I cant see anyone else having the pleasure of owning my black cat or I guess she owns me really.

I have a 99' & 00', I'm selling the 00'. I generally just like the red of my 99' better than my black 00'. The 00' has a like deeper sound to it but you will probably change the exhaust on what ever you buy anyhow. I like the little electronics upgrades on the 00', but I just can't seem to get the seat to adjust to the perfect placement as I have in the 99'.

But most importantly, my 99' is just quicker on the bottom end. The 00' has a better top end but I don't get a chance to run her wide open, it's always when the light turns green I get on it.

Good luck, any everyone has stated you'll love her regardless of her age.

I've got a 01 but I agree with Wildcat, ANY Prowler will do, you just need to watch out for that "Joker Smile" that comes across your face every time you get into the car. And the friends you make are the greatest. Pick one and Enjoy!!!!

I have a 99 and a 01 and I’d have to echo the advantages stated about each. I wouldn’t give up either one. They’re both fun to drive in their own way. The differences are slight. The most important thing is they are Prowlers! The greatest thing about these cars is the attention you receive and the attitude/state of mind they put you in, and for that it doesn’t matter what year you get.
