Here's two new ideas & modifications I saw yesterday during the Wine Country Cruise. It's always amazes me on how creative some fellow Prowler owners are to solve some common everyday problems...

The first pic is a bug catcher Al Collins took the measurements & went to local hardware store and had it made (I think he said about $15). It slides right down in place and catches the bugs. This means you don;t have to try & clean them off the AC condensor coil or radiator...

The 2nd pic is the little silver square bar just below the Hood Gas shock (which holds the hood up on Kats without the Prop Rod). I know I'm on my 3rd set. Scott Curtis designed & made these and he gave us each one. It's held on with slip on pin. You just put on when you raise your hood & remove before closing the hood...

Besides all the friends you meet & make on these Prowler get togethers you also learn all these neat little ideas that your fellow owners are willing to share...

The hood prop is a great idea!!! I was thinking of the potential problem of the hood crashing down the other day. Thanks guys!

I really like the hood prop idea. I had bad bump on my head and a bruise on my back for a couple of weeks from the hood coming down on me while I was working on it. I put a drop light on the hood latch and it seemed to be holding (I should have known better) and it did hold just long enough for me to get my body under it. Then BOOM, man did that hurt.

just a word of caution, if you forget the aluminum stop is in the strut, (and I would forget)and you attempt to close the hood, you will bent a very expensive piece of aluminum, THE HOOD. JMO

Good point Tom! What if the support sleeve was made from a thin-wall plastic tube, with a large enough slit, or even an angle slit. The slit could be the weak link, allowing the sleeve to be pushed out &/or off - in the case of someone trying to close their hood without pulling the sleeve out first. A clear tube would be universal & not stand out, but I'm sure tinted or colored plastic could be found.

By the way - I still need to get one of your hood hinge kits for my early '99. Don't run out of stock - LoL.

Man the bug thing is awesome, is it framed? I need the specs on that as here in Texas, we seem to have lots of bugs and they are sucked right in on the radiator. COOL!

Hi,
We met Laddie here in California and he thought our idea of the bug catcher was pretty neat so he posted the pic.
They have an aluminum frame and fit just right so it catches most bugs before they get into the radiator and cause alot of time in cleaning. I have decided to have some more made up and believe we will be making them available for 35.00 plus shipping. If you are interested in ordering one let us know. Reponse to what we have done seems to be quite high. Our Email is allanc1@inreach.com

Any problem with the bug catcher if you have the Magic Touch brace installed? I'm interested.

I don't know what the big deal about the hood prop is. If you have a 99 the best thing is the rod that the hood comes with. You set up the rod and there is really NO chance of the hood falling !!

The Bugcatcher does not pose any problem to vehicles with the braces. The braces generally fit over the battery and
the Bugcatcher sits in front of the battery area.

Laddie,
I looked at your picture of the bug screen and decided to make one. I made it before the Co trip and it worked great.
I used fiberglass screen and not a hole in it as the pictures show and that was after Sunday cruise with Marc Scarbeary. I spent about $15.00 total and not a bug of cotton made it to the air con coil. I forgot to show it to you but the pictures tell the story.

This is the Horz dimension 13"

This is the Vert dimension 14-1/2"

This shows where you must place the screen.

This shows the screen when I got home a few bugs the bottom of the screen goes in front of the battery.

This shows the screen clean and the angle it is at.

This shows how clean the air cond coil was after i removed the screen.

This shows the position of the screen.
If I missed anything just ask.
Thanks,
Bob Hacker

Bob,

You did an ok job on making your screen and I'm sure it works fine. However the Bugcatcher screens we are producing fit in the vehicle much better, due to the fact we are using a trapozoid design. We also utilize a much better screening material, have little devices to reduce any vibrations, have handles or black tubing on the top, and we are making them in both aluminum regular shine and black framing. Handles are in chrome or black. I also
believe the one you have made may interfere with any vehicles that would have the suspension bracing. Ours do not. Since the original picture we had posted we have made
a few modifications and the Bugcatcher is all that more attractive.
