1st off let me start by saying I bought my brandnew Kat outta state in Feb. I finally got around to taking the Kat in for warranty work to a local Dealer that came highly recommended. 1st my Passenger front fender never had the clip for the splash guard on it. The dealer said the only fix is to order a new fender.... and they will have to paint it at the dealership. This is not a very appealing idea to me. What would you guys do? What might my other options be? Also when I took delivery of my Kat I noticed the chrome bezel around the shifter had some scratches on it. I called the dealer I bought it from, they told me my local dealer would replace it for me.... well they said nope. I call my purchasing dealer back, and got the " I'll have to check on that for you"... and no call back yet. Should I really push this. The dealer was very good to me other then this. The scratches are pretty minor. What do you think? Thanks for your opinions... they mean a lot to me! ------------------ |

Frank, Let them order the new fender and paint it and then look at it before they attempt to mount it. If it is not up to snuff, tell them to give it another try. It should be okay if they have a decent painter. They can certainly get the paint. I would attempt to polish out any light scratches on the chrome bezel with some extremely fine polish. If you do not want to do it while it is installed, it can be removed in seconds. Use a credit card to push in the four tabs. They are on the sides near the front and rear corners. You need a hex/allen wrench to remove the gear shift knob. You can polish the bezel while you watch t.v. I would think they would come out unless they are pretty deep. That is my solution. That does not mean it is the only solution or best solution. You have to make the final choice on what to do. ------------------ |

Fender idea....when the new fender arrives, see if they will remove the carriage bolt holders from the new fender, then install them on the old fender, if they have a GOOD body shop it is a snap....this way you have NO PAINTING....not sure how easy some of these come off(mine fell off)...but its worth a try...second, I had a shifter bezel replaced because of a small hole in the shifter boot....don't let them get by with this, DEMAND IT....think the bezel listed for approx $150......I am constantly amazed at the problems some dealers give customers...I get treated like royalty from my local dealer, Goodwin Dodge..... ------------------ |

Paint the fender - see if they will let you keep the old one ! I would want a new bezel. This is not a 11K Kia. John This message has been edited by John Buehrle on 05-24-2002 at 08:55 AM |

Frank, I agree Ed, just check the paint job before you let them install it. If you can keep the old one you could sell it to me and by a new bezel! Do not give up on the bezel from your original dealer, stay on him until he does the right thing. I have been thinking about finding a older black bezel and painting it to match the car along with the radio bezel. Some door inserts from Norb and you know have turned a negative into a positive. ------------------ |

C5 Frank, If you must have a replacement Fender you MUST keep the old one (pretty unlikely though). The new paint WILL NOT be as resistant to rock chips as factory. I KNOW from experiance. If I had a chance to it over again..I would have never had my passenger side fender replaced on my '99! ------------------ |

Are you sure you can't just get the splash guard bracket separately? I've bonded mine on before. It's relativeley easy. -- Tarzan ------------------ |

I lost my Mud Flap bracket....Same story.....You gotta buy a new fender! So I bought a damaged fender ...took the bracket off & glued it back on my fender. While I had the bracket off I made drawings for it so I can reproduce it. I won't pay $700. for a fender just to get a bracket!! That's BS! ------------------ |

FWIW, I had both of my fenders re-painted at the dealership. No way you can tell they were painted or ever scratched in the first place. -Pete ------------------ |

Chromer, sounds to me like a bad paint job, many types of paint out there are far superior to our cheapo factory paint. ------------------ |

A good body shop should be able to reproduce the same paint as the factory paint. I cannot remember if the fenders were painted at the plant I visited but they spray the color, bake at 140 deg for 20 min (I think) then remove to color sand and buff. A heated down draft spray booth should be able to do the same thing. But removing the clips from the other fender would be my 1st option if they would come off without damage. If you don't like the chrome shifter bezel I will trade you my `99 shifter bezel for it, scratches and all. As far as who should warranty it, it really doesn't matter, If it was delivered like that it is defective, and DC should stand behind it, they will reimburse whoever changes so it is a no brainer for the dealer....This is only my opinion I will look for pictures to post of my shifter bezel with chrome shifter knob and chrome radio shimmer, I love the look. But if I didn't have the chrome knob I wouldn't want the chrome bezel. ------------------ This message has been edited by WildCat on 05-24-2002 at 04:54 PM |

I had to have my hood repainted. Paint job is better than the original. More clear coat. I would push for a new shift bezel. ------------------ |

I got a new bezel, it took me two times. I had to go 2 different dealers. The first said no way, the second said no problem. Dont let one bad apple spoil the whole bunch! |
