This past weekend while haveing a wonderful time at my daughters wedding someone tried to open my hood and trunk with a key, didnt get in but sure left scratches in the paint. Called the insurance and they will repaint, dont really want to do that but no choice. seems like aftermarket is never as good as factory finish. Now Im thinking of painting the top in muhulland blue?????? Happy Prowlin ------------------ |

Too bad about the key job Curtis. It's pretty sad when you cant park your Cat for fear of some disgruntled dirtbag tearing it up. Think it was someone in the wedding? BTW-congrats on your Daughter's wedding. A good paint shop ought to be able to refinish the car. How about finding someone with a blue hardtop to see if you'll like it? ------------------ |

Actually, not true in our cases. Prowler paint, at least mine, is so inferior to a high quality repaint, I wouldn't worry. Just go to the best shop in your area and have them take a look at it. Done properly, you should have a much deeper shine with less maintanence. |

Thanks Al: I have had a few cars painted over the years and they seem to chip faster then the stock paint, but as far as a luster? Have a friend in the body business can do a really nice job. Just really makes me upset for someone to do this to the car kind of a sick feeling in the pit of your gut. More the not it happened at the hotel near the SF airport had cleaned the car Fri am then again sat morn found it then Happy Prowlin ------------------ |

Had to have my hood repainted last year. If anything it looks better than the rest of the car. I have 15K well care miles on my Kat and the rest of the paint is in excellent condition. The celar coat was no very thick on the hood. Now it is and I think it now has beeter protection than before. ------------------ |

I got in a sand storm in Palm Springs, all glass and headlights had to replaced and a complete paint job. I was a custom car builder and painter for 20 years so had a hard time finding the right shop and painter to do my prowler, I went to 15 shops before making my decision on the one to paint my car. I looked at the shop condition, paint booth and interviewed the painter as if he was going to work for me, asking him how he was going to do the job and what materials would be used. Finally found a painter to do the job, he is removing all body panels including rear fenders,he will be painting a base coat clear coat, then putting the panels back on and color sanding, I will then be doing my own flames, after lay out and color on flames he will be removing the panels again for clear coat, then replaced again color sanded and buffed to get a deep flat Black finish. ------------------ |

A good painter with today products has no problem duplicating and improving on the factory finish. Just about any shop out there worth its weight will be using a basecoat clearcoat system with a polyurethane clear. When cured it has the consistancy of rubber When I paint and have some left over I pour it into round molds to make litte balls that bounce to use in paint demos You dont want your clear too thick, as the thicker the paint gets the easier it will crack and fail... The ideal thickness is approx the thickness of a dollar bill... The reason the shops paint may look better is they sanded and buffed the finsh after it was painted. This removes any imperfections and orange peel from the finishes texture. You could actually have your factory paint done ( would recommend by a professional) sanded with 1500 or 1800 wet sand paper then buffed and polished and you would be amazed how deep your factory paint looks |

actually the Prowlers were color sanded & buffed at MSX. I seen the process, very impressive. Compared to production paint jobs, the prowler is much better. Any shop with heated paint booth should be able to recreate the same paint job that was on it before the key job. ------------------ |

Boy Larry I seen that in the Caap CD. I think the day mine went through they must have had a fellow who walks with a white cane colour sand and buff mine!!! mine had one of the worst paint jobs I've ever seen on it. It's taken me almost 10 mths of battling with DC Canada to get them to finally send someone out to look at it and then to admit there is a problem and that the car had 2 coats of paint from the MSX plant when they told DC it was only painted once and that they had never painted it 2 times. quote: Curtis, My sincere feeling is that there is not enough contrast between the Black and the Muholland Blue (and the combination may actually be detrimental to the car's appearance). I would strongly urge you to consider doing the top half in CANDY RED. It's a factory color, it's been done before with the Woodward, it would be Bright, unique and you could call your new Black and Candy Car the "Candy Tie Edition" Serious...think about? ------------------ |

Yer right Chromer, That would be bright and would most likely look good but dont know if I want somthing that bright or not. That way from a distance it still looks the best color (BLACK) you wouldnt notice the change until your next to it, but would add a Dr. Ru style blue pin strip would go with the blue flames. Now you have me wondering though Happy Prowlin ------------------ |
