I saw a post where a member asked what his Kat should be worth. It got me to thinking. There are only what 11k or so Prowlers EVER made. Think about that for a min. I was watching a show the other night on speed channel. They were talking about different rare muscle cars from the 60's. They were bragging about some cars being one of less then 10k made that YEAR. YEAR.... not ever. I think when the time comes to part with our Kats (for me the day may never come) we hold the cards! Right now there is a little push by the dealers to get rid of 01's or even clear some 02's out. But once that has stopped... we are in charge of what we ask for these cars! As this site grows we all become a closer family. Think if we get to say 5-6k owners as members. Then we all agree to not sell for less then $50k + there you have it. I love my Prowler and can't imagine the day to part with it. But if the day might arise, getting more for the car might make it easier. Anyway... didnt mean to get so long winded.... Just he a thought and wanted to share it! Thanks for listening! ------------------ |

Good post Frank, I agree, once the new Kats are gone then the price becomes what an owner is willing to take to part with his/hers. A prospective buyer can't say "Well I'll just go by a new one!"... It's off to see another owner and make an offer. And the more time that goes by, the more valuable they become. I don't think they will become worth a fortune in my lifetime, but in 30-40 years, who knows. Like you Frank, I have no intentions of selling my Kat, but I also know the future can often bring circumstances that i can't forsee now. My 2 cents... MsdMikey ------------------ |

I don't disagree with your theory, however, there are people who bought them as an investment and really do not care for the car itself and when they decide they want to get rid of it for the next fad, they will come down on the price. They will not hold out for top dollar since they need the money for the new toy. It is already happening and that is one reason the prices are so soft. (Just one of many reasons). I don't intend to sell mine, ever but if I get arthritis so bad that I cannot get in and out of the car, I guess I would consider selling it. We cannot control the market, there are too many variables. ------------------ |

I would not consider selling mine either. But, I wonder if having the trailer would add to the price? ------------------ |

The value of the car is what someone is willing to pay for it. Some people ask big bucks for old muscle cars and they are still for sale. The ones that bring the most money are very rare, and in some cases just not desirable at the time it was built or too expensive. I have heard of several Superbirds sitting for over a year and didn't sell. The dealer removed the wing & nose then sold as Roadrunner. Look what they bring now. Hemi cars...TOP DOLLAR...why...very few built....the BADDEST motor put in any car available and the $700 to $800 option cost....plus insurance premium Rare...how much is a `57 Belair Hardtop or Convertible worth and how many were built. How much is a `64 Studebaker Supercharged Avante worth and how many made. A lot more `57's and they are worth a lot more than the Studebaker. desire....I hope there is a strong desire for our cars as WE age...but if not at least I've had fun while I can still get in it....and I think I will have several more years than ED ------------------ |

I will do my part to keep the value high. Since I am already past 40, I made my kids promise not to sell them after they put me in the old folks home! Steve ------------------ |

I agree with C5 Frank, Prowlers are one of a kind cars! The Hot-Rod is a classic... Classics dont go out of style, like Corvette Stingrays, I dont think the C5 will ever be a classic, thats why mine went bye, bye! |

The market won't be soft forever for the very reasons you state. See my post with regards to my experience with this car in the two short weeks I have owned it. WAY too many people, especially kids look at this car and want one. They WILL someday remember these cars that were so cool when they were kids, they will be successful and will pay the price. History will repeat itself. Me, I sold my dream car to buy this house we are in. 66 Pontiac 2=2, 421 tripower HO 4 Spd Convertible. Red, black top. I cried. Thats the car that set the 0-60 record for Road and track (3.9 seconds). Now I have another car that was a dream for me........ I won't let the Prowler go - one of my children will get this car - and I bet it will be worth more to them than what the market will bear - which in 30-40 years, I bet will be a bit of $$$$$$. John, I read that article on the 2+2 and think I still have the issue of R&T. If I remember, It beat a Ferrari on the road course. I was a Pontiac fan at the time and would believe anything. In retrospect, do you think the article was true? It must have been a REALLY WELL PREPARED car! Gonna go and find the issue! ------------------ |

A little lesson in history and reality here... people pay big buckies for vehicles, Cars, Motorcycles, trucks, etc, primarily because of Nostalgia... If there is going to be a lot of Nostalgia for our cars from the teenagers who "cannot" afford our cars today... these same people would not be buying cars in the same price range as our Kats today (which they are). The fact is, those who want a Prowler usually have gotten them... Supply and demand determine prices, always... it will be sometime before Kat's become rare and valuable.. if they ever do. ------------------ |

Al, yep - it was a VERY prepared car. Most people did not know it, but Jim Wangers sent the car to Royal for a "check up". I have an article from 1968 that talked about the car and how a gentleman by the name of Milt Schornak (Spelling? ) actually placed a Nitrus bottle in the Door and no one found it. If you find the article (I have it) the engineers are in amazement at the speed of the car. Car and driver tested the same car (No Royal involvement) and I believe it ran 0-60 in 5.5 seconds with street tires - still quick. Mine was built by George Empy in Detroit. He built it like Michael Garblics record holder. It was a hell of a car. No one would even expect it to run like it did. A neat sleeper ! I just can not tell you how sad I was to sell it, but I now have a heck of a house....... and a Prowler. I LOVE Pontiacs, they are my passion...... until now. I just went in the garage and pulled the cover off of the Prowler just to convince myself that I really did buy one of these incredible cars..... I still can't believe it ! Hope to meet you all soon. Well Corvette ZR-1 owners thought the samething. Less then 7,000 were made in 6 years. The last one rolling of the line in 1995, 7 years ago. Today you can still find ZR-1's at discounted prices with very low miles, how does 134 miles sound? So don't hold your breath. It will be quite sometime before our Prowlers are worth more money then what we paid. Supply and demand....

quote: Good point Wild one! No flame.....But the ZR-1 is still a Vette.. although a rare and special Vette. It suffered from being over priced and when the C5 came out... it delivered the same performance in a "standard" Vette. That hurt the ZR1 to be sure. Look at the current Z06's . You can find a 01' Z06 used for nearly $10k below it's original price. To many Vettes in total are made. What is going to replace the Prowler? ------------------ This message has been edited by C5 Frank on 05-01-2002 at 06:38 PM |
