Picked up a screw in my left front tire on the weekend. waited until this morning to try and take it out. I slowly started unscrewing it and the air started to escape. I put it back in very carefully and called the local dealer. He said no problem, bring it over and we'll patch it. Waited 45 minutes till they brought it in. I went to the back and talked to the tech. He didn't even know the Cats have run flat tires. I had to tell him! He called a Goodyear dealer and gave me a referral. I heard these guys are supposed to take a course on these repairs. They told me if it made me feel better they would say they had taken the course. they started using a jack but that didn't work out. they ended up putting it on a hoist. They reefed on that tire till I felt sick to my stomach. After they were done and balancing the tire they told me my rim was bent. Any possibility that they bent rim, can't say I hit any potholes Cost me $45.00 to fix my flat only have 2,800 km on my car. Not a very happy camper! |

Goodyear did repair Free of charge for 1 year. Talked to a guy Friday night that had a knife go thru his rear tire. It had the owners name address & phone # on it. He was going to call and find out if he wanted his knife back and then tell him it cost $750 to replace the tire plus air sensor, if he wanted his knife to pay up. ------------------

You better find a new service department and a new Goodyear dealer. I've never had to pay for any repairs at Goodyear or America's Tire Store. I've had three tire repairs over the course of 83,000 miles in two cars. I did however have three wheels replaced at no charge by a Goodyear dealer when the Service Manager used a screwdriver to pry the weights off the inside of my wheels when I put on my first set of tires. The tip of the screwdriver gouged the chrome pretty bad. |

Next time leave the screw in. I've had a nail in my left front for over a year. The're run flats for Petes sake. I only loose a few lbs. of air a month. ------------------ |

Discount tire will fix your flat or nail/screw problem for free. Doesn't matter whether you bought tires from them,,,,kind of a novel gesture.

You can plug screw holes, nail holes quite easily. Takes less thn 10 minutes. And it is easy to do. I've plugged tires for decades and have never had a problem. I wouldn't try plugging a knife cut, just round holes from screws, nails, etc. |

I agree with Nelson. I have five plugs in my tires. Three in drivers side rear alone. I keep a plug kit in the car. In my business there always seems to be nails or screws on the job site. Never had a plug come out. Marty ------------------  Driving my Dream |

Canuck, Be aware, the wheels ARE warrantied if they came from the factory bent. I personally had one replaced under warranty. Others have done the same. Talk to your dealer. ------------------ |

I just took my prowler out for a quick little ride and kept hearing chiming over my CD. Then I realized I've got that blasted "Low Air Pressure" light on. I found a screw in my front left tire (right in the middle of tread - run flats). Do I buy a plug kit and learn to do this myself, or take it to Goodyear? I've already got the portable Air Pump. |

593. Buy a kit at Autozone for about $ 5. It is a no brainer. I have fixed a lot of them. If it is in the tread part of the tire it is very easy to fix. Read the directions and watch to see if the screw is straight in, or at an angle just so you know what direction to push the rasp to roughen up the rubber. Use plenty of glue, it makes the job easier by acting as a lubricant (see A/C for more info on that). Push the plug straight in at the correct angle, pull STRAIGHT out and do not twist it. Leave a little outside the tire and use a razor to trim it flush after a minute or two. I have never had one fail yet and I have done over 20, I am sure. No need to remove the tire from the car. Turn the wheel to give you the best angle to work on it. Sometimes it is tough to get past a steel belt so be prepared to push hard, if needed. Nice - I did it !!! - guess this gives credibility to when my run-flats tread wears out - to consider non run-flats. Thanks for the suggestion. |

It is pretty simple, isn't it? Your post reminded me I needed to get more plugs and glue. Last Spring I rotated Sandy's tires on the PT and she had 5 nails/screws in four tires. I thought maybe she was working construction part time. lol |

Tom, you should patent the idea, TODAY before you know who, in AZ tries to collect on your great idea. Genius, I tell you, Genius. I would steal the rear tires off of Chuck's Prowler and then just swap them out again next Fall. One of the best mods I have heard of, to date. |
