Hypothetically… If you had the opportunity to purchase a V8 conversion kit (assuming a reasonable price and that you would convert to a V8) which engine would you want as the replacement for your Kat’s V6? My preferred Engine would be The Dodge 5.7-liter HEMI Magnum V-8 - Kcat |

What year did they do the 5.7L? I like the 360 (5.9L) but the new 4.7L engine is supposed to be very good and it would probably fit. There were some photos posted not long ago with the 3.5 V6 and the 4.7 V8 side by side (at CAAP) and I think the main difference was the 4.7 was a little longer. But here is a consideration. They 4.7 is only rated at 235HP - could that be boosted without supercharging? I mean they get 253 (at least that is what it is rated at) out of the 3.5 V6. ------------------ |

The new 5.7 HEMI will be in the trucks with a cast block this fall and the aluminum HEMI 5.7 is to be in 2004. This (aluminum Hemi)is the Motor I want to try and put in my car. I hope DC will create a wiring harness that will make swaps as easy as the TPI bowtie crate motors. The computers that operate our motors & the new Hemi are not compatable...This will have to be addressed before conversion is possible. It has been done with corvette drive tran....NOW WE NEED TO GET A GOOD MOTOR IN THERE ------------------ |

If you think about it the C5 Corvette has a rear tranny too.... might be a easier total conversion with a Vette drivetrain. ------------------ |

I'd have to choose the venerable small block chevrolet. Why? A huge assortment of performance parts and accessories available at reasonable prices. ------------------ |

They used the corvette drivetrain for the reason Frank mentioned...rear trans axle....but they still had to back half (frame) the car to get it to work. I agree with moparmania...bowtie in Mopar YUCK....I don't care what it is I think it should have the right BRAND engine in it, unless old orphan that didn't have any other engine combos....chebby's are cheap and small...and you put them in anything but a chebby it is cheap ------------------ This message has been edited by WildCat on 04-30-2002 at 08:27 PM |

I think I would think like Andy G. and only ask for 1/2 a V8. I would like that nice light 4 cylinder Novi. 800+ horsepower. ------------------ |

Most bang for the buck - I'd put a Buick 3.8 V6 Grand National engine in my Prowler. It's small, already turbocharged, great on the highway, and fast as you want it to be on the strip. Just keep adding money. |

Not sure which V8, probably the new Hemi. But it definitely would be Mopar or nothing. ------------------ |
