On Friday, April 26, 2002, a farewell party was held for all of the Team Prowler members. I was honored to be asked to attend on behalf of the Prowler Owners Association. It was a party with very mixed feelings. The Team Prowler members were obviously very proud to be a part of automotive history in designing and building the Plymouth/ Chrysler Prowler, yet there was sadness that the ride had to come to an end! What a ride it has been!! The party was held at one of the MSX facilities and was attended by approximately 50 people. The Conner Avenue Edition Hi-Voltage Blue Pearl Coat Prowler with the matching trailer was on display in the conference room where the party was being held. Several people had an opportunity to speak and reflect on how the Prowler started as a design in someone's mind, eye and heart! Bringing the car to production was a labor of love for these people and they have devoted 9 years to the life of the car we love so much. They love it too!!! Many of these people also own one, like we do. Several people, besides me, arrived at the party in their cats. There was my Candy Red, two yellows and an orange that I saw. In addition, Dr. Ru and his wife attended in their Woodward with trailer! It was interesting to hear some of the stories about how decisions were made, how designs changed and in general how the Prowler evolved from a design on a piece of paper to the amazing machine that we are fortunate to own. Also in attendance was Pat McDonald from the Michigan Multiple Sclerosis Society. She thanked DaimlerChrysler for choosing to auction the car with the proceeds to go to research at the foundation. She assured everyone that ALL monies collected from the auction of this vehicle (other than the Christie's fee) would be going directly to research. None of the monies would be used to pay staff salaries and the like. She was very excited about the auction. I spoke with her at length and she was very interested in hearing about the Prowler Owners Association. I told her about the comraderie of the owners and how the car brought us together, but friendships kept us together. I told her about some of the events and the participation of the owners in things like the Toys for Tots and the Patrick Foster cruise. She said to thank all of you for your contributions and applauded all of you. After all the speeches were done, Pablo Cuarez relayed some information about the auction and the lucky owner.... whoever it turns out to be. They are putting together a time capsule which will be given to the new owner along with the car and trailer. It will contain items that are being donated by the Prowler team members. There are pictures of early designs, early logos that were considered, brochures, everyone's Team Prowler business cards, early Prowler t-shirts, small diecasts, etc. They had a picture of all the Team Prowler members at the beginning of the Prowler program and took a "bookend" picture yesterday of the Team Prowler members to be included, also. Lots of interesting things. They also had a copy of the brochure entitled "Plymouth Prowler...The Anatomy of a Roadster" and they asked everyone present to sign it. It will also be included in this time capsule. This will be a very special collection of items for the new owner of the last Prowler. They had an Hi-Voltage Blue Pearl Coat hood that they also asked everyone to sign to be put on display. I'm just not sure where!!! Dr. Ru also did a special signing on the hood! A special Conner Avenue Edition Prowler cake was made for the occasion and that pretty much got devoured!!! They allowed everyone to take as many pictures as they liked and also allowed people to carefully sit in the car for pictures. I also spoke with Pablo with regard to the auction letters. The mailing was sent out yesterday and all Prowler owners should be receiving a copy. However, if you've had a change in address, you might not receive one that was mailed to you. Canadien owners are definitely included in the mailing (but you know how slow your mail is, right Keith?). They also indicated that if you'd ever stated you did not want to receive solicitations from Chrysler / DaimlerChrysler they would not have mailed you a letter. Owners who purchased their cat used would not be getting a letter, either. On April 30, they will officially announce the auction. It's my understanding that Christie's got a little ahead of themselves and put up information before DC was ready. They will be sending me a press release to post on April 30, containing all information you would need with regard to the auction which will be helpful for those who didn't receive the letter. It was a very nice farewell to the coolest car on the planet and everyone agreed that there had never been anything like it and never will be again! Throughout the party, everyone was sharing stories about their experiences with the cats and how interesting it was that no matter where you went, someone always wanted to see it and talk about it. I shared with them the story of when the Prowler owners were at the Grand Canyon and how when we pulled into the parking lot with all those cats, everyone turned around from photographing one of the greatest wonders of the world to take pictures of all those cool cats!!!! They thought that was pretty awesome!!! I heard that they chose to auction the car because everyone in the world was contacting them and giving them a reason why they should be the one to get the last cat!! A raffle was considered, but because of the hassles and legalities of putting a raffle together, they opted to do the auction. It wasn't because they didn't care about the owners. They even stated that we are the ones that have unfailingly supported the Prowler and they really were grateful for that. It was a great party and a great day. The Prowler will be on display for a few days at DaimlerChrysler headquarters and then will be moved to the Walter P. Chrysler Museum for a week. It will then be transported to New York for the auction. Please view my scrapbook on this event at this link in the Event Scrapbook section! http://prowleronline.com/scrapbook/neweventview.php?id=165

CJ - Very interesting and well written. While reading your post, one thing stuck out and struck me to the point of expressing my opinion. "Plymouth Prowler...The Anatomy of a Roaster" The car was designed, BADGED, and built as a Plymouth, and should have remained that way to the end of production. My intent is not to pis$ off anyone or create hard feelings, just stating how I feel about it. True, it was the last Plymouth built, but changing the name was not needed. Whether this had anything to do with a sales slump after the name change, I'm not sure and don't care about that now. It left a bad taste in my mouth when DC did that, and I feel it was a mistake as Chrysler was pushing the PT sales at that time. Lack of advertising was also a huge mistake (along with not building a dark green metallic for Ed). Having said that, I salute and recognize all owners as Prowler owners and friends. We will continue to go forward and grow as an association of Prowler owners and friends 'til the end. JMO ENJOY THE RIDE ------------------ AlleyCat Productions, Inc |

Gene, I don't understand your question. All new, original owners will receive a letter, Canadian, included. Anyone who bought a used Prowler most likely will not receive a letter. Anyone who bought a Prowler new but indicated they did not want any solicitations from DC will not receive a letter. |
