We have already customized our 2K black because we like the way it looks regardless of what anyone else thinks. But what you do to your dream car isn't necessarily what someone else would like. There are now only so many Kats out there, and their value will probably go up. What does everyone think about what will happen to the value of your Prowler if you customize it?

Donny thinks that if customizing is done right, the value will go up, but Donna thinks that in years to come it will decrease the value of a Prowler as an investment. She says an unaltered, low mileage, Kat is the ideal.

Donna and I are debating about chroming the front end. Donny has been dreaming about having the entire front end chromed, like by Carlini. Donna says it could lower the value of our Kat, and Donny worries about this too.

Neither of us will give anyone any hassle about what you think. Please let us know.

The answer is it depends. It depends on what's available at the time that new owner might be looking for a Prowler. I believe a stock, well cared for, low mileage Prowler will always get the biggest return. It depends on price. It also depends on if the changes made to the Prowler was done in good taste. For example a Prowler with pink dots all other it isn't going to be very attractive to a new owner. But custom wheels might or chrome pieces. My take is don't worry about it, it's your car and you should enjoy it. Changes are good, it makes each Prowler more unique, it reflects who each of us are. Me, I try to make changes that can be undone, like exhaust, bumpers, flames that are tape and not paint, etc.

The point is, have fun, don't worry as you said, what others think.

Ditto Wild1...

History is a good teacher. Most collector vehicles that I have messed with are worth more if they are stock. Unless the changes are something rare and desirable (69 GTO Judge with a RAV in it). The changes that I have witnessed in your cars are cool and desirable. If someone likes them, they will buy the car. If it cost money like chroming the entire front end which looks way cool, I believe people will pay for it. I bought my car to drive and enjoy.

My idea.......

As those of you know who own these cars, you get stopped at every turn. I have noticed lots of little kids love the cars. At most car shows, you can always find those that say; "I bought it cause my dad had one just like it" or When they came out I always wanted one but I was only 14. I told myself that someday I would have one". I now keep a stack of business cards in my car. A little boy approached me the other night and asked if he could look at my car. I let him sit in it. He told his grandpa "Someday, I am going to own one of these Grandpa, in this color too". I gave him a card and told him to look me up in 30-40 years when he is CEO of his own company and there just may be one for sale. We're building dreams folks..... I'm driving mine.

Donnie & Donna

are you planning on selling your car?

With the other mods you have done I would not worry about the chroming the front end. Most people would like that and I think it will not hurt the value of the vehicle. It might not make it worth what it cost to do it but who cares if that is what you want. I knew the day I painted my car it would only HURT the value of the car on resale but I was not doing it for someone else, I did it for me and I like it whether anyone else likes it or not. I also plan on chroming the front end. It should have came from the factory chromed, along with several other mods I have done, BUT that is my opinion

If history is anything to judge by, wait 20-30 years before value's increase anyhow.

If we do tasteful modifications to our Prowlers and don't do anything that can't be eventually put back to stock, I don't think that it really makes much difference dollar wise either way.

If we are all worried about the value between customize and stock, then there's one thing to keep in mind:

**Whatever we upgraded, make sure it can be undone without physical alterations.**

Like you both stated you don't care what other think of your mod's do what makes you both happy, after I met you both in Deadwood last year I can't see you selling that Black thing anyhow. Everytime you might think of selling it Stop and think about "The time YOU we're the LEAD DOG in the Kat caravan from Crazy Horse that beautiful summer night last year." I still get goose bumps thinking of the cruise that night, the beautiful sunset, and the long string of tail lites, "The Rain" LOL. and like the commercial says "PRICELESS" for everything else there's Mastercard"

PK, I left ahead of the pack on the motorcycle to miss the rain, but it is still a GREAT memory. I remember Donny asking me how I beat him back to the hotel, too. To get back to the original question, in the future there will be buyers for cats that are basically stock and there will be buyers for cats that are modified. It will be the same as it is now, people with different tastes and different budgets. Enjoy it while you can. Live your life while you are still alive.

new prowlers are good for the first few months ...but after that you might add some go fast...and then maybe a little something to make you go even faster...now its time to look good or is that better ...add this or get rid of that...a little chrome , add some paint and don't forget your shimmers along with something else that makes your prowler unique to you.......have fun ..... this car was never stock they only gave us a place to start .....

Thanks for the thoughts, folks. We have decided to go for it. We are on the waiting list for the Carlini chromed front suspension, and it may be some time in the fall. Betcha most prowlers are destined to be customized. Ours will probably keep changing.
