I just got a price today of chroming the front end parts, both sides, upper & lower arms - $600.00 and 5 - 7 days. I was wondering if this was a fair price . Anybody priced this ? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance. ------------------ |

Sounds too good to be true.....I don't want to burst anyones bubble but.... What year car do you have. Carlini tried for over a year to be able to chrome the control arms that come rough cast. Be careful that you do not disassemble your car and then find out they cannot get the process to work. Also do they or you have a source for the bushings...they are not available from DC, they claim not a servicable part. MY OPINION: I think I would have to see another Prowler front end done by them before I would let them experiment with mine. If it happens let us all in on the chromer ------------------ |

Dan these pictures are really great! Thanks alot. Wildcat, my car is a Black 2000 and they guaranteed that the slightly rough surface would not be a problem, that sandblasting in preparation for chroming would take care of it. I'm thinking of keeping the struts black, I don't want to overdo it. This is a very reputable business and this guy has been doing this for 40 years. Does alot of Corvette & Camaro show cars. I'll keep everybody posted, thanks for all the responses! ------------------ |

It is not the rough surface. I used this because the clear coated like mine can be chromed...I was told that it has something to do with the type of Aluminum that makes it harder to chrome....it does not chrome like steel...if I remeber correctly there is silicone impregnated into the aluminum and when it is heated in the chroming process it releases the silicone causing spots in the chrome... I would suggest talking to CNOTE and Gary Cleverly before you tear down your car. ------------------ |

Are the chrome front ends really only done by carlini? I know Randy at Lakeland Chrysler is selling chrome front ends (check group purchase section). Where he is getting them, I don't know? But his prices are different from Carlini's.

Al, Randys prices are for the parts only, factory finish. You still have to get them chromed, and Carlini is still the only one able to do it yet. A little pricey for the chrome work, but looks awesome. ------------------ |

I have spent over a year developing the methods to chrome the front suspension on the mid 1999 and later Prowlers. The material contains both silicon and magnesium. It is very difficult to chrome without pin size bubbles. I do not know of anyone in the US that can chrome this material other than us. Be very careful of what you get yourself into. There are many things that have to be addressed. Do not attempt to remove the bushings. They cannot be reinstalled. Replacement cost for the A-arms is very high. I know since I have ruined some in developing our method. Our chroming is triple plated and of show quality. Please feel free to contact me with any questions. Again be very careful and do not make a bad decision. Get all the facts before you are sorry. |

I'm glad you didn't go ahead and do this. many might say they can do it but I would not recommend anyone but Carlini to do the later models. Plus there is the issue of bushings. And it is good to see that Gary E chimed in (hope you are feeling better) ------------------ |

Yeah, that looks spectacular, especially around the holidays, since I have several different colors available. It has the Sasquatch Seal of Approval. ------------------ |

Don't know the accuracy of what I'm about to relay. When I looked into chromeing front ent parts, I was told that the process can weaken the metal and cause failure. Decided against it. Again, don't know the veracity of what i have been told. grif |
