Now that most of us have changed to a other than stock exhaust system, Borla, SS, Straight pipes or what ever kind you have, Have you found that you drive in autostick more than automatic? For the first two years I almost didn't ever touch the stick until I changed my exhaust. Now everyone thinks I have a standard. Whats your preference? ------------------ |

I like to just leave it in D unless I'm feeling squirrely. But then I don't push it, I just let it slowly let it climb to about 4K and then hit the knob. I find there is a delay in the manual mode and I wouldn't trust it to shift before blowing the engine if I pushed it to the limit. From what you say, my car has a very unique sound. It is a stock exhaust! ------------------ This message has been edited by sunbird on 04-05-2002 at 09:35 PM |

Most of the time in Auto, feeling wild I use the stick. Mostly just like cruizin. ------------------ |

Recently I have been using the auto-stick more. I like down shifting as I approach a stoplight. The Mopar exhaust has a nice rumble sound to it. -Kcat |

I like auto-stick myself. The damned autoomatic doesn't know when to shift properly. Often double downshifting jerking me all over. Ultimately I would much prefer a manual. Then you would really feel the torque. The auto-stick does have a delay which is strange. I account for that and shift a few hundred rpms early. Not worried about blowing the motor. If hitting redline is going to blow this motor then it's a piece of crap and lowers the cars value to .02 There's a reason there's a rev-limiter in cars. |

I think my cars auto mode shifts the car perfectly. However if I had exhaust work I think I might manual mode it more to let it rumble. ------------------ This message has been edited by C5 Frank on 04-06-2002 at 02:07 PM |

I use "D" 95% of the time.... Only times I use autostick. 1) on the drag strip, I start in "D" once car gets into 3rd gear, I move the shift lever down into autostick & lock in 3rd gear. 2) just to hear the noise out of the muffler or straight pipes when down shifting... 3) on the Crazy horse trip going down some of the winding mountain (hills) in Custer National Park, I came all the way down without ever using the brakes.... Some of the road was like going down the circular exit ramps in multi story garages... That was a lot of fun.... ------------------ |

Use em both.. but my comment as far as the car doing its 'own' in D, it shifts perfectly! Right around 6400 rpm it takes the 2nd, and 3rd gear.... or if I decrease the pressure on the gas (not full throttle) then when I let off it shifts. Most pleased with BOTH systems! Love the downshift, listening to the (This week) stock exhaust. Wifey and I went out today on a very nice cruise. Gotta love those roads that have a sign THIS ROAD HAS MANY STEEP HILLS AND SHARP CURVES.. ------------------ |

When I first bought my car, it was 90% auto, 10% manual. Lately, it has been 90% manual, 10% auto. ------------------ MTD Prowler Intake System 2.2 |
