I just bought an extended warranty last week. Cost me $2,700 for 7 years / 100,000 with a $0 deductible. I can't remember the name of the plan, but it covers all repairs except for wear items. I live up north so I don't get to drive her all that often. ------------------ This message has been edited by ProwlerOrange2001 on 03-25-2002 at 12:57 PM |

I can't believe your dealer told you an extended warranty was not available? DC has a full line of extended warranties available to meet your needs. I chose a 7 year/ 50,000 mile, zero deductable and paid $1,080.00. My car is just turning two years old with under 10,000 miles on it. Most dealerships I checkd with were willing to offer the warranty under the suggested retail price. Shop around and good luck. ------------------ PROWLEN.... John (-: |

Word of caution from a retired Chrysler dealer... If you buy a Chrysler Service Contract, it will cover your vehicle at any Chrysler/Dodge/Jeep dealer in the country and they will bill Chrysler directly for the cost of the repairs less your deductible (if any?). If you buy an "aftermarket" contract, you are on your own. This is not to say that there aren't some fine aftermarket providers out there because there are but if you don't buy the Chrysler Contract...caveat emptor !! Mike |

Mike is right ... been there done that long time ago with a non-GM plan for a Vette. Ended up being more of a hassle than the savings was worth. Now I buy GMPP Major Guard and the Chrysler plan for the Prowler. Peace of mind. |

Word of caution from a 1988 Dodge Caravan owner... I purchased the Chrysler official extended warranty for my Caravan, and was extremely disappointed with Chryslers' execution of that contract. Has anyone actually owned a Chrysler product and purchased the extended warranty and used the warranty after the new car warranty ran out? ------------------ |

Just my two cents worth on warranties . . . First, my experience with a Mopar plan. I purchased a warranty from Ma Mopar for a Dodge Caravan. I had some problems, specifically the trans mounts went bad, and thought no worry - I'm covered. Imagine the shock when I find out Mopar's own contract didn't cover the item. 300+ dollars extra for the repair! After comparing the plan to "aftermarket" plans I was shocked to see how many items weren't covered under Mopar's plan and were covered in most other plans. Secondly, a number of plans sold by Dealers are actually underwritten (covered) by the same "aftermarket" companies they knock. Lastly, I purchased a 6 year/60K warranty (50 deductible)from Auto Advantage for $675. The plan is insured by the Fireman's Fund Insurance Company. This plan covers much more than the other companies mentioned on this post and AA costs less. My Prowler is still under Mopar's warranty (for 3 more weeks) and the plans are cheaper when purchased while your car is still covered by the manufacturer. As always, compare what is and isn't covered because I've found the plans vary quite a bit. I'll get off my soapbox now - Good luck. |

Ray...Thanks for validating my "word of caution". Richard Jackson...Sorry you were disappointed with Chrysler's execution of the service contract. Did they refuse to cover something that the contract specifically said was covered? And yes, I have enjoyed the benefits of owning a service contract several times on my vehicles, most recently on my '97 Dodge Grand Caravan ES with 60,000 miles. Chuckmar...Again, you have to read and understand what you are buying just as you would a standard insurance policy. Chrysler's plans cover exactly what the various plan provision documents enumerate, no more and no less. And you are correct, the plans are least expensive to purchase during the first year of your warranty. After the first year beyond the original in-service date, there is a surcharge and after the second year, there usually is an additional surcharge. lynnpt2000...The last I knew, Chrysler had a plan to finance the price of the service contract for a year interest-free also. See your dealer for details!
