I am guessing that most of you only hand wash your babies, with 100% cotton towels used once and then thrown away.

Does anybody run their kat through a car wash? Any of you daily drivers out there?

Thanks.

I would consider touch-less car washes, but my top leaks slightly. Once I get it fixed, I might try the car wash. It just my impression that convertables don't do so well at car washes.

I'd advise avoiding automatic car-washes mainly because of the convertible top. The soaps and waxes that are typically used in automatic car-wases will deteriorate the fabric much sooner than if cleaned by hand with the proper soaps. Also, it is typical for the weather seals on the side windows to be less than water tight and the high pressure rinse cycles of an automatic car-wash will likely cause it to leak while its being washed.

Personally, I only wash and polish my Prowler by hand. It's a lot more work but far better results.

Mike,

Mines a daily driver here in Vegas and I wouldn't trust anyone else washing my Kat. I find that with Zaino properly applied it really doesn't take alot of work to keep it up. I use a California duster which I use everyday. I use the Zaino Z6 Gloss enhancer about once a week, or as needed to remove slight spots and soil.

Of course we don't get alot of rain here, but plenty of puddles from peoples sprinklers.

A labor of love... :{>

Watch out for wheel damage when going through automatic car washes. The damage typically is on the inside of the wheel due to the rails used to guide the car though the machine.

Mike - if you keep it waxed and wash it regularly at a self service car wash, it REALLY doesn't take a long time. Sure, when you have time, you can take an afetrnooon and detail it better, but to me the key for driving it daily is wash it often.

Believe it or not I have never washed my car in 5 months! It looks like new! A few tips one.

I never drive it in bad weather or rain. It stays covered in my Car port and then under a cover. Now so how do i keep it clean.? Armor all makes this great Car protector spray. Its like a car wash in a bottle. All you have to do is spray it on the car on any bad areas. Use a polishing cloth and simply wipe! it works great and no spreaks or sratches. I use Windex on the wheels. nothing but shine all of the time!!

Now i do go to the car wash once a week! But more to show off than to actually run it through the water!! I spray wipe and clean!!

heres a link of the product! give it a try!!

FYI - Most car washes use recycled water. You get the benefits of any oil, tranny fluid, ps fluid, etc. that can make it through their inadequate filtering systems.

The big-name automatic car wash generally use strong degreasers( some manually applied with brushes) to remove most anything from car surfaces, local yokels use a watered-down process that removes most contaminates from the rims, paint, etc. This re-cycled water process also removes the wax. The clearance on the cat is +/- 4", some rail guides don't have enough clearance, or can bind/scratch the inner rims. The touchless car washes use very high-pressure jets to "blast" the dirt and grime from the car, most any convertibles and other older cars with old seals will leak!

Hint! Do the job right yourself - no one appreciates the car like you!

Good, bad or whatever, I take my daily driver to the car wash. They hand wash it for me. Of course I have to watch what they're doin'. But with a wife and 5 kids, I don't have time to hand wash it myself and the kids wouldn't do as good as the car wash.

I actually make my living at a Car Wash.
We will only hand wash a Prowler at my store.. I do not recommend trying to run one through the tunnel at all unless you don't mind the lower portion of your car getting scraped all the way down the line.

Not only is mine a daily driver, it also stays outside 24 hours a day. It is spotless! I bought it in October and I last washed it in November! So how do I do it?

First off, if it gets dirty enough, I am left with no choice but to wash it. The trick is not to let it get dirty!

Make sure you have wax on your car! Sounds simple and it is. I waxed the cat last weekend. That is the third wax job it has received. Hmmm, I've waxed it more than I've washed it! Use a good wax that you can use everywhere - paint, wheels, glass, plastic, and rubber. Make sure it is wax and isn't loaded with abrasive ('mild' polishers). Make sure it doesn't leave that powdery stuff all over (sure sign of abrasive content). FYI, I use ProtectAll.

Everyday, dust the car off with a California duster. If it is real dusty (like the sand storms we had here on the desert last Saturday), dust it a couple of times that day.

Get a spray bottle. Fill it with water and just a touch of liquid soap. Just a drop or two. Now, at least once a week, walk around the cat looking for the few dried drops of water that didn't slide off the wax and dried where they landed. Take a soft paper towel, spray onto the paper towel and presto - the spot wipes right off! You will always find some spots on the rear bumpers.

Once a week use a spray and shine. It is easier than washing. I use Eagle One Wet, not because it is best, but because there was a two for one sale at a local auto parts store. Got 6 bottles for pennies over $10. There are others out there and I'm sure they all work fine. There is Mother's Reflections and Zaino Z6 Gloss Enhancer and there is one offered by G (like in gee, I forgot their name) Garage. Take a face cloth and fold it into quarters. Spray this stuff on one side and gently rub it on the cat. Do an area about the size of one of the panels on the car. Flip the cloth over and rub it down. Doesn't take very long and you don't have to play with buckets, hoses, chamois, sponges, or any of that paraphernalia.

No car washes here. Only one time at a do-it-yourself car wash and that was in Deadwood, SD. Marc was cruisin' with our group and it rained and we got hailed on!!! Had no choice. Lesson here........don't let Marc ride in your car...he tends to be a jinx!! LOL!

Other than that time, I hand wash my car myself. Don't have to wash it very often.....I dust it alot and use Quick Detailer on it.

CJ - I want to reserve another CJ Hand Cat Wash in Colorado again this year. I found your wash job to be rated A+ and the labor price was right

(Did you notice that Bob didn't get wet and did alot of supervising that day in Estes Park?)

Thanks again!

Ed, why didn't I realize that then? I threw a towel at him to help us dry the Alley Cat off, and he threw it back at me.

Is that why the others call you and I CARP?

Marc - should I bring my snow tires to Colorado? Alex and you are paying any tow-truck bills
