I am tempted to take the bumpers off my yellow. Would like to know the opinions on why you took your off or decided not to. Sassy |

I just didn't like the look with the bumpers on. I took mine off two years ago and have not regretted it. ------------------ |

Sassy , I removed the bumpers front and rear and love the look. But if you take the rears off you will need a custom rear pan of some kind to make it look right. Tom Mills do you here me ? haha. Just do it ! ------------------ |

I wish someone would make a kit to cover the bumper holes with (2) lights in each. Turn signal and HID running or fog lights. Would be to Cool. Sassy PS This message has been edited by SasyMama on 02-16-2002 at 11:41 AM |

Sassy, I've thought about removing the front bumpers also, the one thing that is keeping me from removing the bumpers is there part of the safety restaint system. Al |

some insurance companies may not cover you after removing the bumpers because they are part of the safe system. Plus I had a guy lightly roll back into me when I was waited for a lift bridge... if I had no bumpers I would have had a smashed grill. |

Off is my choice. As you said Sasy, it would be nice to make an insert to fill the holes left by rear bumper removal that would incorperate the turn signals, but this would limit the amount of $ you could charge opposed to a whole rear pan. If I remember correctly, the guys from SoCal Custom put wire mesh in the holes and put an oil cooler behind each to replace the center cooler for the tranny. ------------------ |

I have been reluctant to remove the rear bumpers because I haven't liked any of the pans to date. I'm gonna wait and see what the Tom Mills version looks like. At this point though, the rears have stayed on. ------------------ |

The timing of this post is most appropriate! My wife is currently not speaking to me, as my car has just arrived from storage in Pittsburgh minus front bumpers. I like the look! She says I'm a jerk because I don't care about safety. Lets hear your opinions. Might make a good poll question Mike K! BTW - the candy red just left and should be tucked in its garage by 7:00pm tonight. ------------------ |

Steve, I'm not sure how much more "safe" the car would be without the bumpers. The air-bags would still go off, and thats the main thing. ------------------ |

I waited a year and always said I loved the look of the Kat stock when I saw it in concept, so why change. I told everyone I would NEVER take them off. I ate my words and wouldn't change back now for anything. It is a totally different look. Don't get me wrong, I still like the bumpers just not on my kat. I still have the rear and they are painted to match the kat. JMO ------------------ |

Steve: I faced the same problem because my wife is also my insurance agent. She still thinks I should put the bumpers back on but has accepted the fact that I won't. I told her if it was that big of deal, she didn't have to ride in or drive the Cat. No more problems here. ------------------ |

I am going to paint the fronts to match the car. Ed's and Ken's look good, almost like they should have been that way from the factory. Plus the most important thing about the front bumpers is there is always a seat at cruise-ins and if you have hemorrhoids even better! LOL ------------------ |

Al, as a thought, a front hit at 10mph would probably do 15-20k damage with bumpers on or off. I am pretty sure the decell g sensor would activate the air bags whether the bumpers there or not. I don't want to be the first to find out. I drove a T Bucket for 10 years with nothing but the tires in front and never hit anything. ------------------ |

I have been in the collision repair business for 30 years. In my opinion in a good front end collision the bumpers just may come around and hit you in the HEAD. And if you were to hit a pole or tree dead center it will miss the bumpers anyway. The air bag censors are mounted on the frame so they will still deploy. As far as the insurance policy goes my sources tell me that they will pay unless there is a statement in the policy that states they will not pay if you have removed the bumpers. I will take my chances without them. |

Heck, ya got three Kat's now Sassy ... make one front bumpers removed only, make one front and rear removed and leave the other as is ... then you can take a picture beside all three and we can all vote ... could be an upcoming pole even ... are ya game or do I hear another excuse coming? |

There was a Woodward that wrecked on the PA turnpike last year. It ended up at the dealer's here in town. In that instance the bumpers folded like an accordian and wraped around the tires. I don't see where they do anything but get in the way. ------------------ |

OK, one KAT, off and I choose the yellow. My husband is fighting this one all the way. He says that it is easier to replace a bumper than the nose. Sassy |
