After reading about all these problems with center cap tabs breaking I think I may have a good idea, I will need two or more caps to see if this works. If you have any extra caps that are no longer any good I would be willing to pay for the shipping, if the fix works I'll even mail them back to you at no charge.

I know there's been suggestions on using hot glue but what I'm looking at is replacing the tabs themselfs. Using the idea from the older cars that had metal hubcaps with stainless steel tabs to hold them on, I think if I could get the right tempered steel I could fabricate new tabs.

It's kind of hard for me to explain all the details on what I would do but it would be worth a try, I also would need the metal wire ring as a guide when replacing the tabs.

The caps may end up in the trash so if you have caps that you may want to keep this isn't where you want to send them. If there's any fabricators out there that wants to do this themselfs please do.

Al

P.S My kats a 02 so that's why I'm not trying this on mine.

I took all four center caps off this evening and hot glued both the inside and outside edges of the tabs. They seemed to be extremely stiff going back on. I wonder how easily they will now come off. I will try that in the next day or two. I had two tabs that were cracked at the base but none were broken.

I to have had to replace a center cap. It seems to me that there is a defect in the design. If we all stick together on this; and fire off a letter to someone at Chrysler. I'm sure that we can get new/replacement caps at n/c. Jack

Ed - Those little suckers are now forever. Very stiff is good. They will come off with the Miller tool or similar item. I've seen MadMax pull his center caps off and on repeatedly with no breakage, almost to the point of abusing them intensionally.

Let me give him credit:
The MadMax Hot Glue System is for center cap longevity.

Alley Cat, I was surfing the net and saw that you gave the Alley Cat stamp of approval to "The Hair Club for Men" and also to Pfizer for their Product, Viagra. You sure go for the top of the line products. How did you make out with Enron? lol

Hey Mike,

It's a constant 72 degrees here (in the house ), tell Karen not to worry because at age 54 I'm retired and have plenty of extra time on my hands.

Ciao,
Al
