After observing the owners survey where 9 of 185 declared they are between 18 and 25, my question is Where do they obtain the money or financing to buy a car that costs upwards of $50,000.00? The people I know in that age bracket can't/don't even have cash for a $3.00 beer. Most of them unholster the ol' Visa or MasterCard for that, or hang around the bar rail looking thirsty and hope someone takes pity on them. |

There are a number of people around here with hot rods that would fall in that age bracket. I know they have every bit as much money in those as a Prowler would cost. Speaking from personal experience, I have always had at least three cars, even when I was 21. I think it just depends on how you spend your resources. You don't have to be wealthy, you just have to plan. ------------------ |

I agree with Dave "just depends on how you spend your resources. You don't have to be wealthy, you just have to plan." I think young people today are living at home longer and staying single longer. They also have a better education on average and earn good $$$ right from day one. I was hiring kids with 2 to 3 years college at $22.00 an hour when I was working, most where still at home. We have kids still in high school driving BMW, M/B and others, of course mum and dad by them but where do they go for there first car from there. Thus a Prowler before 25. I wish them all the best and hope they enjoy what I waited 50 years to get. like I always said "should have the money when you are young so you can enjoy things more". ------------------ |

costs upwards of $50,000.00? maybe 3 years ago but I hate to tell you it's more like 34k to 38k new and used around 30 to 33k look on ebay... I think that the CR might bring MSRP but the rest you can get in the mid 30's.. JMO ------------------ davidn This message has been edited by davidn on 02-05-2002 at 06:30 PM |

I'm 22 going on 23! I've been saving my money since I was a kid. To spend on what? At the time I didn't know, but once I hit college I knew I wanted a prowler. I finished college and got a secure job in the Computer Networking field. Its enough to pay for the financing on the car, pay my parents back for my college education, and pay the bills including rent (I don't live at home either). Moral of the story...education = $$$. Oh and I'm still driving my $1,000 1988 Nissan Stanza which I bought when I was a sophomore in high school (during the Prowler off season). ------------------ |

I bought my Cat when I was 23 (Feb 99) and everyone asked me if I won it or it was my dad's. I always replied "Unfortunity I had to work hard and EARN this car". That's how I was raise. I make enough money to pay for the loan an other bills. It was a car I always wanted since the prototype in 1995 and now I am living my dream. I have had the Cat for 2 years now and I am not sick of it one bit. If I had gotten a C5 vette, BMW, or Audi I would probably be bored of it after 2 year. I love this Car and even after 5 years on the market there is nothing close to it! "Drive = Love" ------------------ |

All I can say is "Good for you "twenties" Prowler owners"!!! When I was in school there were little NO classes in computer programing and no Prowlers out there to dream about. Only girls in short skirts and 67-69 Z28s/ Chargers/Challengers and Mustangs. The short skirts got my vote as they were easily obtainable and the cost was a matter of a dinner or two. The times were different then. Now with the computer age and the reality of making good cash, and I think kids are interested in computers so it makes it easy to study and learn. I went the Contractor route, worked hard, invested well, and have nothing to be ashamed of and am proud of my achievements. At 44 years of age, I now have a 2001 Prowler which I own (not the bank) and also did very well in the skirt dept, LOL. I would have probably wrecked the car had I had it in my twenties. I do commend you young guys that are doing well and I also agree education helps tons. Bottom line. "Nothing replaces hard work and perseverance" Alex ------------------ |

Partial retraction: I should eat a modest helping of "Crow" for assuming that majority of people in this age category are irresponsible and not objective oriented. Congratulations to youngsters Hollywood, Prowler Orange 2001, and Spoons. You guys obviously have your acts together; Certainly this is an era of opportunity for those with education, intelligence, perseverance, and a strong "work" and "objective" ethic. You are also proof of what one with the proper priorities can accomplish. |

Thanks for the Compliment Larry, but I understand the sterotypes for Gen X-er's because for the most part it is true. I figure I have worked hard and I should get the car of dreams now, because I may never get the chance later in life. You only live once. |

quote: You are not necessarily incorrect with that statement. I would assume, though, that if a younger Prowler owner is able to purchase the car on their own, they have a pretty decent head on their shoulders. I bought my Prowler when I was 26. Out of all of my friends, I am considered the most "successful". I am different from them in that when I want something, I do whatever it takes to get it. Most of the 20-25 year olds that I know expect everything now and do not want to work for it. There is, however, a very small percentage who are motivated and are willing to work for what they want. I went to college and earned my degree while my friends were partying and "enjoying" life. I graduated and entered the work force while my friends were happy making $8 an hour. I have worked my a$$ off to get to where I am today and am very proud to say that I do own a Prowler, along with my own house and two small businesses. I am in the process of starting a third small business and looking to purchase another property. All this while my friends are figuring out which club to go to tonight or which numbers to play in the lottery. I have never relied on someone else to get what I want, nor do I wish to. I prefer to do it on my own. "Where I am is where I am... But where I am going is up to me." ------------------ • MTD Prowler Intake System 2.2 Future Mods: |

Hey Marty, IT's not the legs that make the look, it's the pantyhose.LOL I think a former football star proved that if you remember. ------------------ |

I was lucky enough to buy my Prowler when I was 20. I agree that education does help, but I believe that hard work, patience and luck is what happened to me. I build custom homes for a living, and don't have a college education. I wish I would have taken the time for college, but I went into the work force right after high school and made some fortunate decisions. I will be 24 in March, and now married. We own a new home and some rentals. I have since sold the purple Prowler but plan on buying one again someday. I applaud all owners young and old. Owning one of the greatest automobiles of all time is a accomplishment for anyone. |

Al - I'm old enpough to remember the commercial Joe Namath made. He may have cool enough to pull off the panty hose thing, but I'm going to try, even if I do drive the COOLEST car in the world. Marty ------------------ Driving my Dream |
