This afternoon at No Problem Raceway, I ran the ¼ mile in 12 seconds (twice). My best run was a 12.91 ET & 104.4 mph and than an hour later 12.93 ET & 104.65 mph... And, this was a beautiful Louisiana Fall afternoon (Sunshine, 71 degrees & 45% humidity). This was opening day for Test & Tune at this new track. The left lane was for street tires & the right lane for slicks... The track only allowed running one lane at a time for Test & Tune... I think this makes the 6th 12 second Prowler... Mike K., Jerry G. (aka FM), Gary C., Bob W., Fred H. & me.... I'm running the basic Paxton with Prowler Pro Gears. There was a new 2002 Corvette electron blue Z06 (405 hp) there & it's best time was 13.6 ET & 106 mph (most of it times were 13.7 & 13.9s; it's speed was consistently in the 106 range). This car will run faster once the driver gets shifting the six-speed down. However, I must say the Prowler was the car of the day... I was really grinnin (and, still on a high) Even took Karen out for dinner tonight.... Sorry for posting in two areas but, I'm still a little excited... I have pics in the Prowler Performance DF of my Prowler & time slips and link for track... Here's the link to pics in Prowler Performance DF.. ------------------ |

Congratulations Laddie! What was your previous best? What did you change in order to achieve your new times? Or was it just optimum weather conditions that allowed the faster times? I hope Karen enjoyed your night at White Castle. lol |

Thanks, it was a lot of fun... One correction. I think I'm the 7th 12 second Prowler.I'm thinking Mike K. had two Prowlers run in the 12s. AC, Ed & Gary. I think it was just the weather conditions (71 degrees & 54% humidity at 3:00pm according to paper this morning). I have lost 15 lbs so that probably helped a little. I did use Sunoco GT unleaded racing gas. But, I've always used some higher octane on the track. I tried the VP in the past. But, here in Louisiana it seems the Sunoco is the preferred fuel. On the track, I run with the side air box off so the filter is wide open (held in place by the top cover). Again, nothing new or different from the way I've run other times... Now my first run yesterday was really scary. I did a burnout & saw lots of smoke off the right rear wheel. So, I figured it was OK. I staged & took off from about 1500 rpm. I had a lot of spinning & continued for almost 1/8 mile mark. It felt like I was driving on ice... The car was real loose & I had to ease off the accelerator twice. Than somewhere after the 1/8 mark it hooked up... I went through the traps at 100.1 mph. Now this was with an ET of 14.8. When I compared my time slips all the time lost was in the first 1/8 mile. The time from the 1000 ft to 1/4 was only off 1/10 from my two next runs (2.1 sec). When I got back to the starting line, the guys there were telling me I was smoking & spinning my right rear all way to the halfway point. They said I needed to heat my tires and get the water off.. However, on the left lane (for street tires) there was no water. The water for burnout's was only on the right lane... So, I figure whatever was on my tires came off on that run... On the next two runs, I did a little longer burnout & did it 2 or 3 times... But, I was still spinning off the line & at each shift (but not enough to affect my times by more than .1 of a sec is my guess). And I always run in Drive... Ed, we passed on white castle went to Dragos for char-broiled oysters.... ------------------ |

Laddie; Congratulations-Sounds like you may be the CoonAss version of Ronnie Sox. I have more "go faster" junk in mine including upgrade of the Paxton 1000 to boost up to 11 l/2 pounds. Quite honestly I have never seen more than 9 l/2 lbs. and ET nowhere approaching yours. My Tech has agreed to meet me at the track and try to figure out how to make it perform better, but I don't know when. I did order Shimmers. How much will they boost my ET? |

Hey Laddie, the spinning that you described is exactly what happened to me at RiverCity. Remember the photographer was taking pictures and my wife was using the CAMcorder and they both shot me smoking halfway down the track. In fact the smoke came inside the car, scared me. What I found it was is that they use a "track dressing" at times on the concrete to make it more adhesive but it needs a bit of time to dry. It had not dried when I ran through it and that sprayed a black tar looking stuff all around my right rear wheel and up on the fender where the mud flap would be. It also got all over the rear bumper.. Had to use a oil base solution to get it off. Just a thought as to what you had too. ------------------ |

Laddie, I'm not sure. Are you the first "non-nitrous" assisted car to get into the 12's??? ------------------ |

Larry. I'm running at 8&1/2 lbs with side air box off (race track configuration). With the side box on I run 7&1/2 lbs of boost... I run with side box on all the time except for when I'm on the track... Maybe you just need better weather for better ETs... And, I do have Jay's Red Engine Shimmers installed. Maybe there some hidden HP gain in those... Fred, I remember. I'll have to check. I didn't even notice. But, I was too proud & soaking in all the accolades at the track after that 2nd run... I almost didn't make the 3rd run. But went ahead & glad I did... Now I'm hearing all the stories on how that 2002 Z06 should have run a better time... Maybe some other day.... But right now chalk one up for the Prowler... I'm sure glad I have an automatic... ------------------ This message has been edited by Laddie Roussel on 10-19-2001 at 08:53 AM |

Gary, My first high 12 second run was in the fall of 2000 with the Hennessey prepared Nitrous Prowler. The car had the Hennessey headers, straight pipes and a 75HP shot of nitrous. This was my 99 purple car that was featured in the 4-00 Motor Trend magazine. I never got any numbers on my supercharged/nitrous car with just the supercharger and my best time to date (and the my last trip to the track) was 12.15ET at Texas Speed Weekend. Anyway, I think Laddie's latest numbers are outstanding for the small pulley Paxton and my hat's off to him! Congratulations Laddie!! ------------------ |

Wow, the Cajun is Hot! Those of us who haven't yet done performance mods are dreaming and saving for the Paxton blower and gears. Has anyone gone into the engine yet? I've had two cars with a 3/4 race cam with stiffer valve springs and it made a definite difference. A big question for many of us is what can you do without a big sacrifice of reliability. I hate the sound of parts leaving the engine. Gary C-- Is yours together yet? What did you change? We're getting curious. ------------------ |
