I have seem some polish jobs and it can look like chrome!! It's a great idea since anyone behind you can see lots of aluminum in the back. I plan to work on mine over the winter. I tried a little and is pretty simple, maybe a bit time consuming. ------------------ |

I took the cross member, round braces and the tube braces running front to back out, they easily unbolt. Polished them on a buffer wheel and touch them up occationaly with Never Dull. I also polished the main frames members that are visible with Never Dull, I do it every major wash and they keep getting better. ------------------ |

Did mine with semi-chrome. This is the best I have found. It can be bought at motorcycle shops. I've seen it other places too. Yes it can look like chrome. You just have to stay after it. ------------------ |

WT it took me a few days of off and on working on it. I live on the coast so they where a little more work than someone living in the dryer climates, plus I use my Kat lots so it's been wet lots of times. This (wicked) product is IMO far better and longer lasting than any other. I took a bottle down to Deadwood and showed some of the guys how good it was and they where very impressed. The cost is about $13 to $15 for a good sized bottle oh yeah that's Canuck funds also so for the mighty buck it's a real deal. PK |

PK, who are you trying to kid? I knew you always had a bottle in your hand, in Deadwood. A lot of people claim it is cough medicine or snake bite medication, but polish is a new one. lol. |

PK, that is defamation of character saying that I would be seen in public with Sasquatch. I catagorically deny it. Show pictures if you want to prove it. I wonder if he actually shows up in photographs. He sure has been low key the past few weeks. |

I started with "wet" 600 grit wet-or-dry 3M Automotive Sandpaper, then "wet" 1000 grit followed by 0000 steel wool before the polish, whatever brand you choose. I have found they are all pretty much the same. This will require lots and lots of elbow grease, but the results are well worth it. The secret is not the brand of polish, but the amount of elbow grease. Don't forget to do the side frame rails in front of the rear wheels. GOOD LUCK, Jay. ------------------ |

Regarding the Frame Rails, I talked with a friend who is a steel maker. He is doing plans to make Polished Stainless Steel Covers for the Frame Rails in front of the rear wheels. Should look great... ------------------ |

Darcy, You guys are causing me to work too hard on this! I found 3M has a product called HookIt Finishing System for this wet/dry process and paint finishing applications. LPL Body Works 5815 Contented Lane, Amarillo,TX sells this (806)359-9783 $27.60 + S&H. It's a velco (hand covered) pad that includes 10 round - 1000-grit, 10 round - 1500-grit paper. This allows for tight contours, and curved surfaces, places a Mouse sander or dremel tool can't go. Compounding and polishing help to a degree, but achieving that lacquer / near-chrome look can only be achieved by fine sanding. After all that hard work, be sure to seal the results! ------------------ |

If I ever see you two hawking my autograph on EBay, the rath of AC will come down on you......... While it is true that I have spent less time on website (mating season in Az), I continue to check in and read the questions of our fine association, and do my part to answer and expand my knowledge onto the others. I have had many offers from other car websites to switch my allegiance, but have chosen to be loyal to the following of the POA (PRICELESS). I have delegated Marty Usher and Chris CNote to answer many of the questions that I do not personally have time to answer. WAIT,,,,I hear the mating call over yonder,,,,,,,,,,,,,,got to GO! ------------------ |
