Has anyone else had a "whirring" noise noticable right after the engine is turned off? It is especially noticable in a garage or when parked next to a wall or other vehicle. My car has had the sound since I got it, but it seems to be a little louder now - but just barely. The dealership put on headphones to try to isolate the sound and they "think" it is coming from the lower engine, just above the oil pan. I was hoping it might be a waterpump, fan bearing, etc. I have put almost 13,000 miles on the car with the sound there the entire time. Should I let this dealer take off oil pan and tear apart the lower part of the engine? If so, I am hoping it will hold together until I go out of town for 12 days onj Oct 19th. Thanks for any input. Not sure if this is the same sound, occasionally when first starting I get a kinda "whistle" sound for maybe a minute then it goes away. Sometimes it won't happen for a week then it will do it again. I thought maybe it was the fuel pump, but I'm guessing. MadMikey ------------------ |

Marty---Could it be the Fan continues to run for a couple of seconds after the engine is shut down??? ------------------ |

Im not sure about when the car is off but when the car is running the idler pulley on the a/c belt went bad and made a growling noise. I guess if it got bad enough then it would do it when the engine was still rotating after the key was shut off. I had a new one put on and it fixed the problem. BUT now the new one is starting to make the same noise very faintly right now. Maybe a design flaw? I dont know but i think im gonna have to take it back again. ------------------ Amsoil Engine and Tranny Fluid |

Marty, what do you expect?? Your car was made out of left over junk in a parts bin. Luckily they had 11,000 pieces of each item left over, or all of the cars would have been different. lol Wildcat will solve your mystery on Tue. |
