Up here they stay in the showroom. You either want it or you don't. Same as Corvettes. No biggie. A test drive is not going to convince me one way or another. ------------------ |

HEY Racer, What part of Canada are YOU from? I KNOW a BUNCH of GREAT GUYS that live UP THERE. Are the DEALERS snobbish or TREAT their CUSTOMERS RUDELY? STARFLAME |

The dealer that sold me my Cat had no problem with a test drive, but other local dealers did turn me down. ------------------ This message has been edited by Dave Mills on 09-29-2001 at 08:04 PM |

I am from Calgary, Alberta. The dealers are very friendly. They just don't get very many Prowlers. So they stay in the showrooms. ------------------ |

Down here in Central Florida, I went to six different dealerships to find one that would even let me sit in the car, and sell it for under $20K over sticker price (back in 1999). I think I paid $2K over sticker in 1999, and I was happy to find that price. NO ONE would let you drive the car BEFORE you bought the Kat. The reason they gave everyone is that it is an expensive car, and the new perspecitve owners won't want to buy the car if it was a demo car (meaning test driven). I knew I wanted the car for the looks, and it didn't really matter to me how it drove. It looks great, so I would be happy with the car....and I am happy with the Kat to this day. |

I didn't test drive it, didn't ask to test drive it, had never sat in a Prowler and in fact, had never even seen a RED Prowler before I bought it over the phone. I picked it up the next day and was slightly disappointed in the shade of Red and was shocked at how small a space I had to fit into. My son asked if I thought I would even fit inside the car. I told hime it was going home with us. Best decision I have ever made. |

I bought mine used, a month old. I looked at it and listened to it, but never drove it. I figured I would get used to any shortcomings the car had as a trade off for the looks. ------------------ |

Back in 1999, it was tough to get prowler without paying the "adjusted market value". The car I bought was on the showroom floor at $75K. I was allowed to sit in the car only. I had a dealer friend of mine sweet talk this dealer. It took about a month, but we teamed up on the dealership to get it for $2k over sticker. I did not drive the car until I had bought it. What was amazing and frustrating to me: the sales personnel knew less than I about the car than I. This was because they were not allowed near the car to learn about it. In fact, I did not sit in the Kat with the top up until I bought the Kat, and I even had to show the sales people how to raise and lower the top, that I learned from other prowler owners via the website. |

I never test drove mine and never saw the color. I did all the negotiating over the phone. I knew if I wanted a new 2001, I had to buy a Blue, Silver, or Orange. With that info, I knew I had to have the orange one. So without seeing it or driving it I found a dealer that agreed to let me have it for 46K including all taxes. They faxed me a buyers agreement and I gave them a credit card deposit over the phone and headed to their dealership. I was driving away with the Kat 20 min after I got to the dealership. No hassels, no test drives, no worries. She's mine and it was one of the best things I've ever done. Alex ------------------ |

Reggie- I bought my '99 Purple 1 year old with 5400 miles on her. Test drove it down the worst road you have ever seen. Still didn't matter, bought it on the spot! Never looked back. I think I am more charged up now when driving it than I was then ( 1 1/2 years ago ) ------------------ |

Well boys, I wasn't really looking to buy one and I discovered mine on the floor of the local dealer when I stopped in to sell an extra Chrysler product that I didn't need. I was not offered an opportunity to drive it or even sit in it. I did ask to sit in it, after I bought it, and they were accommodating. I tried to drive it home that afternoon, but there was a problem with the air bags and it took a day to repair it. The car came with 26 miles on it and, to tell the truth, I was not happy about the "excess" mileage. Do you think that it was my age? Age discrimination? I wonder. BTW, these serious posts might be jeopardizing my status as a humorist. Check my latest, under the Performance section on the ASE post. I think you'll like it. Hi, I sent the poll in because I too did not drive my car. After speaking to several people at the Skyline Drive cruise I found that I was not alone. My local dealer whom which I have purchased 5 new cars from in the last 4 years was reluctant to allow a drive....Sorry guys, went elsewhere and picked up my baby...could not wait to go back to the local dealer service department to have an oil change. Should have seen the look on their faces !!! ------------------ |

The reason I voted "No" was because my husband surprised me for our 32nd anniversary with the car. I've been involved with the car since it was a concept on paper. I'd ridden in one (actually Jerry Scholten gave me my first ride in one on Woodward), but never driven it. Handled the Plymouth Prowler Road Show program for Chrysler and was around it all the time. Didn't need to drive one to know I wanted one! ------------------ Classic/Beautiful - I'm referring to the Cat of course! |
