I took my car to the paint shop today and showed them the new bumper covers from TGF and they said that the tape will not stick because of all the different body panels. I spoke with Norb and he said that if they are installed correctly that won't happen. I spoke with another person who told me that one side is fine but the other side keeps popping off. I am asking for those that have the covers to tell me how they feel about them and how long / miles you have had them on. I really like the style of the TGF covers but if they are going to pop off, I can't use them. Please.. Let me know how you feel. ------------------ |

Cliff, I too believe Tom Mills kit is the best available He has a web site hometown.aol.com/tmills3202/prowlerlightindex.html i think this will get you there. If not e mail him at Tmills3202@aol.com Photo's of my car in POA scrapbook and on Dan Pena's site All TGF kits I've see has the problem of staying attached to the body panels since they are attached with double face tape. ------------------ |

For the last 2 months I have been checking out all the options and also came to the conclusion the Tom Mills kit is definetly the way to go. He will respond quickly to your email and seems top notch. When I'm ready I will use Tom Mills! JMO Alex ------------------ |

I just installed Real Rods' covers and the way that they are designed I don't think they can come off,+ they seem to be constructed with very high quality and the paint is a perfect match |

I have the Carlini Covers on my car and like their style the best. They cover more of the opening than most covers do. If you are ever planning on using the Carlini Chrome A-arm covers, it will be best to us the Carlini covers. Tom's are of excellent quality and I like their looks but you will still see the outline of the bumper hole opening when using them. I have seen many of the TGF covers pulling away (even on their show cars) from the front nosepieces but I do like their new lights. Every one has something that I like and every one has something that I don't. This message has been edited by Larry Lord on 09-29-2001 at 09:19 AM |

Tom Mills kit is $600.00 + $15.00 S&H..painted. The Carlini is about $895.00 unpainted and the TGF is $665.00 The best part of Tom's kit is it uses the stock Mopar wiring harness as well. JMO I too like the looks of the Carlini, but the cost of it plus having to have it painted for extra is what I don't like. ------------------ This message has been edited by PaulR on 09-29-2001 at 12:51 PM |

So far nobody here is using the TGF covers? Are there any others besides DavidN that tried them and removed them because they wouldn't stay on? I would really like to hear from those who are using the TGF covers. ------------------ |

Cliff, I have the Tom Mills and they are awesome. He sent them to me painted and they match the Mulholland PERFECTLY! Check for photo under the houston night out and the columbus parade. There are pictures of mine in both. They bolt on and you do not have the problem of glueing them to your car. I had to make minor adjustments to them, which was easy for the fit to look factory. They are awesome. If you decide to change and need some tips let me know. ------------------ |

Cliff - Curt Stall was on the Hearst Castle trip. Did you miss your chance to examine and talk to him about them. His look and fit good, in my opinion, but that is not a ALLEY CAT endorsement since I don't have my bumpers removed. Email Curt for his thoughts and opinions: cstall1@home.com ------------------ |

Cliff, I've got about 3500 miles since installing the TGF covers and ther's no sign of the adhesive failing. Take the extra time to prep the surface before applying them though. But that's a requiremnet of the 3M adhesive-has nothing to do with the covers. I cleaned my panels first with Dawn dish soap and then with isopropyl alcohol. This takes off any wax that might be there. Anyone having problems with that 3M adhesive not sticking may not have prepped well. Then I waxed (Zaino'd) everything real well once the covers were on. |

Cliff - my 2000 had TGF covers on when I purchased in May. Driver side cover is slightly lose at rear, but not to the point of falling off. I have put 12000+ miles on all types of roads anmd weather and they do not appear to be getting any worse, but I do plan on repairing. We have had the TGF front bumper mount covers for about a year and they have stayed on. We like the looks, but everyone has their preference. The lower rear of the right one peeled up a bit apparently because it was warped, and Norb @ TGF replaced it with another one. We have been satisfied. I think surface preparation before sticking them on is most important. ------------------ |

Cliff, I purchased the "new" ones from TGF, a few weeks ago, and noticed immediately the tape would be a problem. There are low spots, spots that need extra tape, and places where the tape is only contacting on the edge. I checked with RealRod (Bob)about their brace for their version of covers, it attaches the cover to the existing bumper holes. I'm in the process of creating a full length flexible(plastic)inside brace to weld to RelRod's (metal)brace using bonding glue. I really like the looks of the TGF over other covers, otherwise I wouldn't go to this amount of trouble! ------------------ |

HEY CLIFF, WELL FIRST OF NORB IS A PUTTS, CHANGES HIS STORY QUITE OFTEN, AND THAT IS NOT COOL, I BOUGHT THE FRONT BUMPER AND GRILL AND REAR VALANCE AND SPOILER, THE FRONT BUMPERS ARE GOOD BUT YOU DO HAVE TO ADJUST THE FENDER'S A LITTLE, YOU MIGHT GET SOME MINOR LIFT IN CORNER BUT I GUESS IT DEPENDS ON CAR, THE FRONT GRILL I GOT, THE CORNER TAB WHERE THE PHILLIP SCREW GOES THE TAB IS LIKE INCORRECTLY MOLDED SO I ONLY HAVE HALF THE CORNER SO WHE HAD TO MANIPULATE IT TO MAKE IT WORK, HAS BEEN NO PROBLEM'S THE SPOILER DRIVER SIDE JUST DOES NOT WANT TO STAY DOWN, IT IS DEFINITELY THE MOLD OF THE SPOILER, WE HAVE 2 1/2 PIECES ON THE CORNER, I THINK WHEN I POSSIBLY RE-PAINT CAR, I AM GOING TO HAVE IT BONDED SO I DON'T HAVE TO BE CONCERNED WITH IT, THE REAR VALANCE HAS BEEN NO PROBLEMS, EXCEPT WHERE THEY MADE THE CUT ACROSS, EITHER IT WAS DONE ON A FRIDAY OR MONDAY, BECAUSE WHOEVER DID IT IS A IDIOT!, BUT WE TOOK CARE OF! MY SIDE PANELS ARE FINE, SO THE BOTTOM LINE UNTIL SOMEONE COMES OUT WITH BETTER, YOU MIGHT HAVE TO MAKE ADJUSTMENT'S, THE TGF FRONT BUMPER'S DO LOOK BETTER, AND YOU MIGHT HAVE TO DEAL WITH THE OWNER OF METAL CRAFTER'S LIKE I DID, BECAUSE NORB LIKE'S TO LIE THROUGH HIS @$$! |

MeanGene - I don't know if you have thought about this or not but if you bolt the TGF bumpers to the frame you will cause even more stress on the tape. The frame and the body do not move together and you will cause the tape to loosen and you might even rub your paint off. I think a better solution would be to bolt the bumper cover to the body itself in the weak spots if necessary. I was thinking of maybe using some small C-Clamps (1/2" or 1/4") for this, if I could find some. The smallest I have found are 1" and that is way too big. This in itself would be a chore because there really isn't too many places for the c-clamp to grab onto in the bumper cover. Just thoughts... Wild Thing - Thank you for your input. I have heard this before from someone else but I have not experienced this attitude with Norb at all - and I hope not to. So far he has been straight up and honest with me about things. In fact - he has been very helpful. Again - thank you for your input ------------------ This message has been edited by CWatsonJr on 10-01-2001 at 05:51 PM |

Good afternoon. I read your request for input regarding the TGF bumper replacement pieces and I must say that I have had no problems whatsoever. One of the things I did to get a better fit was to loosen all the panels at the mounting site and brought the panels to the TGF pieces and got a good tight fit first and then tightened the panels back to the car. The mounting surfaces of the TGF pieces are not a flat plane and because of this I brought the panels to the TGF pieces. Also, I left the panels with the mounting surfaces up and to the sun for about an hour and the front end of the car facing the sun for at least that long @ around 80 Degrees. The only other thing I did was to use a body shop surface degreaser on the surfaces and cleaned it real well, turning the rag many times and once the mounting was complete, I kept pressure on the piece holding it to the panel surface for about a minute. I also didn't retighten the loosened panels for a couple of hours. (I formed the car panels to the piece, not the piece to the panels.) Additionally, I made a cardboard template from the edge of the grill to the mounting area to assist in keeping them equally distances from the grill. A little Dremel grinder work on the TGF piece helped in getting them to mount the same in distance. So far, I've been lucky. I hope it continues, I really like the way it has turned out. A perfect match of color also. Good luck and I hope this has been a help, Roy. |
