I just wanted to say thank you for everyone's postings on how to remove the bumpers, tools to use, etc! I found them EXTREMELY helpful.

While I did not break the 18 minute mark, I did do both in a little under 1 1/2 hours. That includes about a 1/2 hour of removing the headlight assembly and then deciding that wouldn't help and putting it back together.

As everyone else reported, the first bumper took the longest and the second one came off in no time.

Here is something I didn't expect - Gina was watching me for awhile and then said "here give me the wrench, my hands are smaller" - she got in there and got that last bolt off the first bumper I took off the first two bolts on the second bumper and she took off the last two. I love teamwork

I was prepared for the swearing bit to kick in (and anyone who knows me - KNOWS I DON'T SWEAR) but it never came to be. Lucky I guess I did say ouch a few times though

I will be putting on the TGF bumper covers after they are painted. I hooked them up last night and set them in the holes. They looked good and the lights are awesome!

I think our neighbors really believe we are goofy - after we hooked up the bumper covers, we stood in the garage (picture the kat half in and half out of the garage so I could get the best effect of the garage work light) watching the emergency lights blink for about 5 minutes with our arms around each other - admiring our work. AHHHHHH to be in love

Feels good to do it yourself sometimes, doesn't it? I haven't even changed my own oil for twenty years and my friends/neighbors thought I was nuts the first time they saw me take the side panels off and remove the intake system.

Personally, I really like the looks better with the bumpers off.

Happy Prowling

Cliff,

Before you permenantly attach the TGF covers, call Bob at RealRod for his brace. The TGF covers are at best "glued on", and over time and a few shakes, might loosen its grip.

Here's the response I gave Jeff about the TGF covers:

I've installed the TGF bumper covers also. Here's what I did to cure the "lack of stick". I noticed on the dry fit that there are low spots that will create a no bonding surface for the piece and places more stress on the edge surface that does have good contact. Get some 3M Adhesive Tape (#6382), build up the low edges - if necessary, any center, rear areas where there is no existing tape, color the back of tape with a "washable marking pen, not permanent!" - contrasting a color different than your car! Children's coloring felt tips work fine! Dry fit and check for complete tape color markings on the car. Move and redo till your tape impressions have complete seal markings. Check your "original" alignment, remove the red backing from the 3M tape and seal, applying pressure to the piece for about 1 min.

MeanGene - thanks for your reply and suggestion - I will look at it. I don't know how long ago you got the covers but I know these new ones are more pliable than the old ones and the turn signals are a different type than the ones in the past. These LEDs are brighter than the older ones. I think the newer covers are longer also (if I remember correctly what Norb was telling me).

I recently took a tour thanks to Norb and he showed me a lot of the neat stuff there.

JD - think I am being risky now... just wait a few weeks

Wish I had the courage to shed at least my front bumpers.
I have not installed the front license plate even though they are required in CA. I keep telling myself the bumper has to stay in case I need a place to put that license plate someday.
Who knows...maybe be I'll bust out my Judas Priest cassette of "Breakin' the Law" someday soon and start unbolting those bumpers.

Clifford - did JD talk you into this? lol

I've seen lots of Prowlers with the bumpers off, so how about a picture of Gina and you with your arms around each other? Since she did MOST of the WORK with those small hands, take her out to dinner!!

Cliff,
That's a really touching story of you and Gina working on the car together. By comparison, here's what happened when I took my bumpers off:
The girl I was seeing walked in the garage and said something like "What kinda idiot spends that kinda money on a car and the first thing they do is disassemble it?"
That girlfriend is gone... I still have the car!

AC - hah - JD did not talk me into this - I don't even know if I told him I was doing it. I know I told Jim and a couple others but I was so busy trying to hide my face from JD's camera, I don't think it even came up.

I have even more surprises in store - pictures are a long way out because I want to wait until the project is finished.

You can catch a picture of my arms around Gina at Hearst Castle in JD's line up.... Friday is date night - can you guess where we will eat (Ignore that picture of the big gut with my name tag next to it... I think it was doctored )

Curt - I am way lucky to have Gina - there is no way a common woman would put up with me! Has to be an exceptional woman in every way (Did I mention that she reads these sometimes?)

very wise on your part, Cliff.....

I must interject something here, as one of the few women who owns her own cat. Just want to let some of you know, as unbelievable as this may sound, that there are actually women who love their cats and want to modify them in many ways. And some of these same women have (or used to have) significant others who think they are nuts to not only want the car but put more money, time, love, affection, admiration, etc, etc, etc into it. The phrase: "it's just a darn car" has been heard by some, I'm sure. Blasphemy to my ears but people think I'm nuts anyway. Too bad.....lol.

Enjoy your car! (btw - it was great to see you & Gina again too.)

Ewwww - good one JD. You probably won't believe this but my work buddies all complain that I don't signal enough when driving... OH WELL.

I have eliminated the plan for a supercharger. When I discovered that my car is almost as fast as yours without any mods, I knew I had better not make any - you would want to race me all the time

Besides - The Silver Bullet sounds better than the Blue Bullet
