whispering... Are there any legal issues with removing the bumpers? I don't mean lisence plate issues, I mean insurance or other safety requirements... Thanks. Mike |

Mike - I called my insurance company before I bought my car because orignal owner had removed bumpers already. (one of the things I liked about it!) They did not have a problem with it. I asked a Jefferson County Police officer about it and was told Kentucky statutes have height regulation for rear bumpers so people do not jack up back end of car and expose gas tanks, but he had never issued a citation for front bumber removal. I have had conversations with officers from several police departments and no one said anything about no bumpers - they just liked the car!! Did you finally get out of your Merc and into a CAT??? If so, we are going to a cruise in on Oct 9 outside Cincinnati. Let me know if you are interested. Marty ------------------ This message has been edited by Marty Usher on 09-19-2001 at 02:05 PM |

Still trying Marty! The sluggish economy before and after the attack is not helping me any. I was hoping to move a couple of high end guitars to help with the deal. Two different guys backed out on me at the last minute... The latest internet virus hit one of my guitar hang outs, so no one can see my classifieds right now... I'm still trying! I saw pics of a TX(?) POA event here and they had a blue with no bumpers (looked nice!) so that just got me wondering. Thanks. Mike Mike |

Jmcant1 ---- Most states do have "law's" regarding the bumpers, however "exceptions to the rule" apply to SHOW/COLLECTOR CARS. I've discussed this issue with the local constabulary and they don't have an issue with it and neither does my insurance company. Besides, there have been many sport cars over the years that havn't had bumpers or the bumpers they did have were "cosmetic" only. You shouldn't have any problems with the removal of the bumpers and it does seem that more & more Prowler owners are finding that they like the asethitic looks of the car without the bumpers---and that goes for the cops too. Remove & enjoy! ------------------ |
