The guess the time has finally arrive.... I have been a " Prowler" owner since 1998. That's when the "PROWLERS" were in demand, rare, unique, exotic, different and potential owners had to pay outrageous prices, search the 48 states just to find one for sale and when they did, they had to mortgage their houses to buy one. What happened to the term "Limited Production"? It seems to me, like the novelty has diminished, now there everywhere, all most as many as the PT Cruisers, and they are selling to the lowest bidder. Seems like everyone wants to unload their Prowlers, including me.... Don't get me wrong, I LOVE my "Howler Prowler" and I have a huge investment in it, www.hotrodder.com/howler and now a huge loss. I have enjoyed my Prowler immensely and never have regretted buying it. I guess the inevitable was to be expected, although, I didn't think it was going to happen to the "Prowler". Maybe I'm just bitter because no one seems to have an interest in purchase my car, when they can go on e-bay and buy one in the low $30's. I know things have to change, change is good-right? Maybe Not? I just don't feel the same about the Prowlers, in general, now as I have in the past three years. I don't quite understand how this could happen? Such a masterpiece of automotive engineering could be now just another used car on a used car lot of a thousand other vehicles. Does anyone have the same thoughts or share the same feelings? Even the Prowler websites seem to me on the decline? May be it's just ME.....? What do you think?

I saw your ad and wondered why noone had responded. You have answered some questions that I was interested in without even knowing it. Thanks!! I always wondered what the a-arms would look like painted, and I like your Budnicks. What is your reason for selling? No more fun in driving it, or just bored and time to move on? If you stay tuned to this site, you'll see that the Prowler family is alive and well. Stick around.

It is not just the Prowler. Luxury cars, especially those that are not usually daily drivers are seeing their prices drop dramatically in the past few months. The bigger problem with the Prowler is that most people keep them in pristine condition so that people feel they can buy a used one that will be just as good as a new one from the dealer and perhaps even a better color (in their opinion). When the market slows as it is now, dealers have an impossible time selling and the lowest price wins. Those who choose or must sell, lose. I also believe this will likely permanently impair the value of the Prowler as there will be 15,000 "in new" condition Prowlers around forever and the view will be that these are only worth 30-ish. DC should stop production to perserve the reputation of the car.
Again, my guess (and from DC releases) is that the Prowler will continue to be made for the forseeable future (although likely performance improved at some point - AMG type) with an end date around June 2003 at the latest.

Thanks for you reply butchcee. I'm not going anywhere even if I do sell my car. I will always be a loyal Prowler fan. I really don't want to sell it, however, I have a deposit on a 41 Willys that I have been following around the country for the last year...... It's just one of those must have cars, for me anyway. I have 2 months to come up with the balance or lose my deposit $$$$. I love driving my Prowler, it's fun, it still attracts lots of attention and it's a really cool car. My "Howler Prowler" will always be very special to me, we have become very close over the past three years. The Prowler is a great concept that came to reality, I'm glad to have been a part to that experience. I would not change a thing, no regrets here. On a personal note: YELLOW is the Hottest Color, I'm sure you will agree. I just want the Prowler to maintain that exotic concept status had it has had in the past. We will see what turns up on this post. I'm sure I ruffled some cat hairs.

U know Mr. Howler, you are correct and you hit the bullseye. Like you say I love my car, but at sometimes feel like the Prowler became a "wannabe". Corvette owners look at it and say cool, but no heritage. Car enthusiats look at it and say looks awesome, but no guts. Not to mention some Viper owners who look down on us for not having the big brother. Now remember this is what some people have told me. Of course others love the car and what it brings to the table. I love my car but I sometime feel lost love, and yes I have thought of selling, but it would be at a great financial loss. Meanwhile I will continue to drive my Kat (even to the supermarket) and enjoy it, because I do feel fortunate that I own one of the rarest (used to be) vehicles ever made. Who do you blame, well I blame those people who got gready and made the Prowler production run longer than it was supposed to last.

Sincerely,
Victor (Luv to all)

Well, I'll jump in to disagree that this website is declining in interest. No way, we are growing every month and attracting some real fine owners who are interested in obtaining information about their cats, creating new friendship, and are uniting together to form new cruising adventures.

I will admit that I had wished the production run would have stopped after the 2000 model year, but that is business. DC seen the opportunity to sell more Prowlers and made a decision on it. That may come back to haunt them, who knows? Either way, I'm hanging on to my cat, will drive it, and vastly enjoy the experience and pleasure it brings to me.

______________________________________________________________________________________

BTW - It is my opinion that we have some people seeing a low opening bid on EBay, and then posting here that such and such Prowler is selling for $30,000 there. There may be afew of those rental car RATS selling at a low figure - do you want one of those that has had the crap beat out of it and abused extremely??? Then go bid and buy one, sight unseen......................better yet, go reccomend one to a friend to buy! You will get what you pay for - usually junk. JMO

Howler,To each his own, and I'm sure noone will think you've made a bad move going to the Willys. Truly a cool car!

I hope you can sell your cat to close the deal. The above car is from Ida automotive. If you need one built and your deal falls through,he can build you a show winner. Anyone see this car at Woodward this year? They were there. www.idaautomotive.com

The reality is we had a tremendously strong economy go bust due to various reasons, I'm sure however it has nothing do to with the VAST intregrity we know have in the whitehouse. When things go south high end cars that are toys simply do not sustain high end over priced values... Prowler's are simply reacting to the market like anything else... or do you really think those boys who put 100 K in their $ wheelers get remotely the amount of $ they spent... same with guys who spend $35 - 100 K on a Harley, hello, they LOOSE most of it. When you over spend on ANY car, almost always that money is gone POOF forever.

I have no intention of selling my Cat. Heritage? I think it has plenty of heritage as a Plymouth. Plymouth has a long and distinguished history beginning with the Model Q in 1928. Prowler Owners have the last great Plymouth. There aren't gonna be anymore. Lost interest in the website? I certainly don't see that. I think interest continues to grow. There are more events being planned all the time. I am a member of a number of formal car clubs and none are as enthusiastic as this informal one. The participants here are a really great bunch of people.

My thoughts - The Prowler is a unique and rare car - even if there are over 10,000 of them over 5 years.

You can't compare a non-traditional car with traditional cars, you can't compare an innovative car with non-innovative cars - no matter how hard some magazines try. It's like comparing an eagle with a flock of chickens (Leghorns Rhode Islad Reds, Plymouth Rock, Wyandottes, etc) , - When I'm in my Prowler I feel like I'm soaring with the eagles - when I'm in my other vehicles I feel like I'm just one of a flock of chickens, one jellybean in a bag of jellybeans.

I've had the Prowler for 2 years and have no plans to get rid of it. Where I live I don't see people losing interest in the Prowler.

Financially speaking my Prowler hasn't lost as much as my mutual funds - expectations are that Wall Street will turn around and go back up in value - maybe the Prowler will also?

Hey Nelson Weber,

Well put! My feelings exactly. It's like the stock market...if you don't sell a stock when it's down, you have taken no loss. We all bought the Prowler to enjoy, not to sell and make a profit. Leave that to the car dealers...I was a Dodge dealer for 33 years. Great business but it will give you gray hairs...I'm living proof!

Thanks for your post! You need to hear both sides of any discussion for it to make sense.

Heh Mr. Howler.
I agree with you on a lot of what you say BUT all most as many as the PT Cruiser I thk thats streaching it a bit. I have owned alot of fine hotrods and other muscle cars but from the very first issue of street rodder that I saw the Prowler in. I WANTED ONE!!! didn't care what I had to do to get one. I thk I problably could get the prize for waiting the longest from order time to finally getting one
Feb 16/96- May 5th/99.
Like Todd was saying I believe the stock market decides who keeps what and who gets what no matter what world you live in or job you have. when the -hit hits the fan what goes first the (TOY'S) don't all of you other owners hate that word TOY when the they look at it and say (Nice toy where do you put the suitcases) Mine is NOT a TOY it's my business car,and I want to keep it as long as I possibly can.
AC you are right on the rat rental cars with the bag run off them, how can anyone compare those to ours, but they do
it's all about the dollar, not the shape it's in.
Howler I wish you all the luck getting your price, from the pictures and all you've done it looks great (except it's not RED)LOL you've put it into the even harder level to sell
with the economy the way it is. I have to addmit that your new chose a 41 Willys rocks big time. There's a black one being built just down the road from me right now for a guy from the US. It's Black, Blown and slammed

OPINIONS ARE LIKE ---HOLES SO HERE IS MINE.YOU COULD COUNT ON ONE HAND THE MONEY WE RECOUP FROM BUILDING OUR TOYS.THE ENJOYMENT YOU CANT PUT A VALUE ON. IM PUSHING 60 AND IVE BEEN A HARLEY RIDING BIKER ALL MY LIFE.IVE BUILT EM, SOLD EM, TRADED EM, AS MY DESIRES CHANGED.
IVE DID THE SAME WITH MUSCLE CARS AND HOT RODS. WHEN PROWLER WAS INTRODUCED LIKE THOUSANDS I WENT AND LOOKED THEM OVER. WELL WE ALL KNOW HOW THE DEALERS WHERE OUT TO RAPE US. ASKING OVER 70K WITH A 40K MSRP TAG.A LOT OF US SAID IM NOT TAKING IT UP THERE, THEY WILL COME DOWN. (AND
THEY ARE) AT THIS TIME I WAS BUILDING A CHOPPED 34 FORD 5 WINDOW COUPE.WHICH IS NOW ABOUT DONE WITH OVER 50K INVESTED.
IN 2000 I GOT THE PROWLER BUG AGAIN. AND WENT LOOKING. WELL
I KNEW THEN I HAD TO HAVE ONE. I FOUND A DEALER IN A SMALL WYO. TOWN THAT SOLD ME ONE FOR 44K.I FIGURED IF BOYD CODDINGTON BUILT THIS PROWLER (WHICH I DONT THINK HE COULD DO ANY BETTER OF A JOB)IT WOULD COST 250K.NEEDLESS TO SAY THIS 34 WILL BE UP FOR SALE. IM SURE AT A LOSS.SO GOS THE NEVER ENDING CYCLE IN THE TOY WORLD.BUT NOW IM HAVING FUN WITH MY HARLEYS AND MY PROWLER, AS MY WIFE IS WITH HER HARLEY AND PT CRUISER. My opinion on it all is:
I was happy the day I bought my Prowler. I have been happy driving it the last 1 1/2 years. The prices have started falling and I am still happy. I will probably be happy until the day comes when I have to sell it.

I have not put any money into my car that I wasn't afraid to possibly lose. I drive mine just about everyday and have no regrets as to the mileage I put on it. I rarely see another Prowler on the road, maybe once every 1-2 months (except for about a month ago when I saw a different one just about every day for a whole week). My car still gets the same amount of stares, rubber-necking and attention today as it did the day I drove it home.

I have enjoyed every single day of owning my Prowler and it keeps getting better. If the market completely bottomed out tomorrow and they could not even pay people to take them, I still would have no regrets.

I pretty much do not agree with the Howler man. When I found out DC was deleting Plymouth I knew I had to have a Prowler. So in April of 2001 (and it was Friday the 13th) I bought one of the last Plymouth Prowlers. I believe they only made 669 or so Orange Plymouth Prowlers, so hows that for Limited Production. I had just lost (on paper) over 100,000 in th stock market. The 46K I paid for Prowler will never fall below 40K, JMO, which I can't say about my portfolio. Also, my kat was not purchased as an investment it was bought to drive, grin, and love! I do agree that toys are toys, and in time some boys get tried of their peticular toys. How do you like that last sentence. You are the king of your decisions, so sell the kat. As they say "Do what you gotta do". I don't see anything gained by ragging on the Prowler and the DC exec decisions. If you don't like what they do, hold your middle finger high, sell the Kat and buy what turns your crank. I for one, praise Chrysler and its exec for having the balls to build such a unique car. My Kat (1 of 669) is staying.

I respectively disagree with Howler. First of all, it sounds like you just are tired of your Prowler. That's normal, all of us have divested ourselves of vehicles that a year or three ago we were completely infatuated with. Be honest with yourself instead of blaming the drop in the market for your disillusionment. To blame heritage is silly. The first Porches, Ferrari's, etc. didn't have heritage either. It takes years to develop that and usually some kind of a racing history, which the Prowler will never have. Let's not let the softened market minimize our enjoyment of what really is a fun car, not a great car, not a terribly fast car and not the most solid car any of us have ever owned, but probably the most fun car in any of our garages. Many of us have owned the car long enough to recognize that the 'bloom is off the rose', for some of us, it's time to get another toy, for many of us,I suspect, there is enough excitement left to hang on to the car a little longer.

Well.............

Who cares if people don't think it has heritage (I do)..who cares if people don't think it holds its original value (I'll never sell it anyway).....who cares if people don't think it's rare (you sure can't compare the production numbers between PT and Prowler. About 25,000 Corvettes are produced a year....about 10,000 PT's are produced every month.......there are just over 10,000 Prowlers in it's entire production life so far) or unique (that's not why I bought it in the first place)........

I LOVE IT!! I bought it because I loved it, I'll keep it because I love it. I will drive it until either it dies or I do!!! Nothing else matters!

I have no idea about the other Prowler websites, but POA is thriving and will continue to because of the Prowler owners here who love their cars and want to enjoy their Prowler experience with other owners who feel the same way.

Prowler and its reputation, in my opinion, has been hurt by dealer gouging, lack of advertising by DC, poor color choices and the market. The Prowler was originally offered by DC at just under $40,000 msrp. The dealers asked (and people paid) twice that for the cars. Now that they can't gouge people anymore, they are crying "Foul". It is the owners, like us, who will keep the Prowler legend alive. It is and always will be the coolest car around!!!

Oh.......and if the market bottoms out on the Prowler and they are selling cheap......I might be able to get one or two more........YAHOOOO!!!!

To Howler Prowler - Everyone is entitled to their own opinions, but mine is that I TOTALLY disagree with you. They sell almost as many PT's in a month as total number of ALL Prowlers ever produced. I have had mine since May and have only seen one other on the streets locally. People everywhere always ask questions and stare when I drive by.

POA is very active - just look at the number of posts daily. Maybe you have answered your own question in your original post when you say maybe you are disappointed that no one else is interested in your car.

From my perspective, my CAT is just that, mine. I have chosen to make modifications to reflect my wants and desires for the car and as long as I am happy with it, I do not really care if others don't like something I have done with it.

If it does not meet your expectations of what it should be, sell it. Just don't try to tell me I should feel the same way as you. The Prowler will never be just another car to me.

I also have to disagree. I still have people come up to me a say they have never seen a Prowler. I almost never seen another one on the road. Heritage, Plymouth and Dodge were king of the muscle cars. The Silver Bullet was undefeated on Woodward. I have no intention of ever selling my Prowler. After two and half years the thrill is stronger than ever. And the friends I have made and the fun we have cannot ever be replaced. I could give a rats butt what anyone else thinks about the Prowler. It mine and I love it. Now is not a good time to sell any car it is definitely a buyers market. Two Prolwer owners here in Georgia having to sell because they lost their job. Lots of people in the same boat or afraid they might be. JMO
