Warning!

This tale may be a little long so get comfortable.

With all that has gone on in the last week I have been remiss in not mentioning two people who saved my a$$ and more. And I should mention they didn't want me to mention it.
When my tranny went out 1 mile out of Fort Collins on the way to Crazy Horse Bob Longstreth pulled over with me and suggested loading the car on his trailer and hauling it to the Rapid City Chrysler dealer for a look and hopefully quick fix. He had the car loaded in Nascar pit crew speed, and we were on our way. I thought it may be a sensor so I suggested after an hour or so of towing, replacing it (I had some in the car), unloading it and trying to finish the drive. Wasn't to be, so Bob patiently reloaded the car in 95+ degree heat (sorry about the 2nd degree burns on your backside) and away we went racing to Rapid City b4 the dealership closed. We left it there with Doug and Les (Les the tech. stayed 'til 10:00 that night) hoping for an easy fix. Wasn't to be. The next morning Doug (service mgr) said he didn't have a Prowler tech and couldn't do the work. Bob asked to talk to him and gave him a name to call in hopes that would help. That afternoon Doug informed me he had complete authorization to take care of it and a tranny on the way. (Who is this Bob guy?)
Well for the rest of the week CJ, Bob and the rest took care of me like a lost puppy, including driving back to Deadwood (CJ how fast were you going?) from Wyoming to pickup the trailer for another roadside rescue, while we waited after JD2K's car hicupped. When they returned they brought a cooler with water, pops and lunch. Then while the rest of the group continued on to Crazy Horse for the group photo and dinner Bob, JD and I drove to the dealer once again to drop John's car then headed for Crazy Horse.
This week Bob has called the dealer several times to check on how John's and my cars were coming, if they needed any help and when they would be ready. He has probably called as many times as I have. My car is now back home and running fine and Bob is still checking daily on John's car.
I could go on and on and on, (being a motor mouth is much easier in person) and probably will in the future, but would just like to let everyone know about these two people and all they do for Prowler owners, especially behind the scenes. They never ask for anything in return just that we do the same for someone else when we get the chance.
Bob and CJ

Thank You!

I echo your comments and praise of these to very genuine and fun folks! We are fortunate to have people like Bob & CJ particpate on this board as much as they do, but more so, participate in the events that take place all over the country. I look foward to seeing the two of them again at SEMA (if I don't make it to the Woodward Dream Cruise). Great story, Marc and a Happy ending.

I'm impressed Dan,,,, very nice..

I agree whole heartedly, a awesome display of goodwill toward people in need. I'd say more but, well, enough.
Except to say how moved I was, and still am.

The whole Deadwood Experience was a complete eye-opener for me. Pretty sure I cannot make Woodward, but I can't wait for the next one.

In fact a big Thank You to the whole Pose that day, those who stayed in the hot sun getting stung. Wow,, don't know what to say.

Just hope it wasn't a large strain on you and no one got their builders bum burnt. And very glad no one had to go forth and multiply,, ,,, ,,,

Dan that is perfect!

I should mention I had a dealer do a tranny service on my car just b4 leaving and per the service manual he put in 4 quarts, applied the brake and put the car in R,N,D then checked the fluid which showed OK. The proper procedure (not in the service manual) is put in 5-5&1/2 quarts, drive the car so as to get it into 4th gear, then check the fluid. Usually it should take 5-6 quarts after a simple tran-service. Mine was low when I left the dealership. I checked it when I got home and added 1.5 quarts to bring it up to the bottom of the safe zone. This was probably the cause of the failure, and did the damage on the way home from the dealer. The other option is to purge or flush the trans and put in all new fluid then follow the same procedure for topping it off. In no circumstances take the rpm above 4-5000 before you have confirmed the level of fluid.

And John,
Why don't you explain to everyone what builders bum, large strain and go forth and multiply mean?

Awww, c'mon.........you guys are making us blush!

Thank you all for the kind words, but the truth is, we are no more important or special than anyone else. If we, as human beings, can't help each other, then what in the heck are we here for?

Marc..........we feel like we have known you forever! Or is that because you talk so much it seems that long? I noticed that you left out the part about when we got you to the dealership that was where you earned the title "Purse Crusher"!

You also forgot to mention that John Ross offerred to go back and get his brand new trailer for the second rescue operation. Bob vetoed that, however, because John's trailer has a wood floor in it and things were going to get messy!! So, while we leisurely drove back to Deadwood to get the rescue-mobile, the rest of the roadside angels stayed with jinx and the victim of the jinx!! Me.......... drive fast?..........let's see........we had been driving about an hour when our mission was aborted.......it took me 40 minutes to get back.......Bob kept saying, "CJ, get the lead out!....or was he saying "Get to Lead, now!".. or was he shouting "CJ, you've got a lead foot?" Thank goodness GPS John called us with different directions for the interstate so we could get back to everyone faster! Although, I should have taken the winding road again, just to see if I could beat Bob back!

We missed the Pete and Duffy show, but you guys missed the geyser!! You know the one.......where Bob drove over the Larry Salzman 12-pack Pepsi wheel chuck!! Gee, where was Tony G when we needed him, Deb could have used some roadside music for her dance revue!?

I didn't know that everyone decided to stay and wait with the victims and all I could think of when we came around the curve and saw all those cats sitting there was that I didn't bring enough food! Everybody shared, though and we had a picnic at Custer's Expedition site. Do you think there was some meaning to that?

Dan.........I think Bob should wear the medal, because after two trips to Rapid City with motormouth in the car, he deserves it more than I do!!! LOL!!

JD....the eye-opener was that you should never let Marc "Purse Crusher-Motormouth-Jinx" ride in your car again, right??!!

We had some adventures, didn't we? It was a blast, everything, and we sure have some stories to tell. One of us has a lot to live down....................

Can't wait to see you guys again.

Uhhh, Marc.........not so sure I like the title of this topic! LOL!

Purse crusher? As Colonel Klinks's sergeant would say "I saw nothing, I know nothing". (Larry you stay out of this).

Memo to trailer owners: Never use a twelve pack for a wheel chock.

I talked to John Ross yesterday and he and Deb sure are special people. Deb's roadside dance will be remembered for a long time. Of course we were all pretty busy swatting bees or flies.

Hey Bob, how about a road trip? Naaa, I didn't think so.

Purse Crusher-Motormouth-Jinx? Is that your best shot CJ?

I think Good Hands people fits. Like Allstate's motto, you guys pulled of rescues in Colorado, Wyoming and South Dakota. Only 3 states but good enough for me.

Anyway I think I'll just drive my truck next time and go fishing.

Marc...obviously you didn't see anything. If you had, you wouldn't have backed over my brand new purse...........or would you?

Re: Memo to trailer owners. Never use a FULL 12-pack of hot pepsi for a wheel chock! It did rival the 4th of July fireworks, however. All that was missing was the colors and sound effects!! It was a spectacular sight, watching all those cans spinning wildly around the parking lot until they ran out of fizz!!!

Bob is ready for another road trip, but wants to know if he is going to need the trailer again. He said you guys never listened to the oldies music, 'cause you didn't stop talking long enough..............! LOL!

No, not hardly my best shot............just trying to be nice! However, which part of that is not correct?

It was only 3 states, because those were the only three you traveled in............. Don't think we want to travel with you ALLSTATEs!

C'mon........fishing was just NOT as much fun! However, you need to stop using the DuPont lures......LOL!

Oh, I forgot..........we forgot to mention that no sooner did GPS John take pity on you and let you drive his cat on the way back that day, that it rained and HAILED! How far did we get....three miles... and there hadn't been a cloud in the sky!!! Thanks a lot! LOL!

Marc, John..I couldn't be happier that your nightmares will come to a much quicker and happier end because of the help you got from CJ, Bob and Jerry....but am I surprised? Not in the slightest! Had you asked me what they would do in a situation like that, I would have answered correctly...just the way they reacted! Great people within a great group. Good luck with your cars!

Okay, my sights need adjustment, I only got the corner of your purse and a new tube of lipstick. ick!

Just be glad it was diet pepsi, no sticky sugar all over.

Road trip? Yea, I will never travel again without a shag trailer, but I don't think I can afford Bob again.

Oldies music we don't need no stinking oldies music!

Pursecrusher-Motormouth-Jinx? you forgot....nevermind.

Wish I had some Dupont lures on Deerfield Creek with those 20-24 inch fish who wouldn't even look at my fly.

That was probably the first and last time GPS John will ever ride in his passenger seat. (Thanks for the confidence John).

I have said nothing so far, just reading Marc's BS.
I have decided that Marc is BAD LUCK TO ALL! - you have to always help him out, he will not listen to the music you bring along, never stops talking, takes forever to order meals, crushes a lady's new purses with NO apology, uses your 12 pack of quality Diet Pepsi as wheel chuck and crushes that also, creates rain and hail storms while driving your cat, jinx's you as a passenger, smells like trout, the big one got away because of wrong lure, always late on air flights, eats your best steaks, can't afford motel for evening and stays at your place, didn't make his bed in the morning, and finally, finally; I understand that he always leaves the toilet lid UP! I'm thinking a black flag here, maybe excommunication from the group???

How he talks about driving a truck to the next event!! Man, this guy is dangerous in anything! Like I said before Marc, next time take the BUS..........

I'll pick up that new 12 pack of Diet Pepsi when I get back to Denver.

BTW - Bob and CJ are a cut above - really great, amazing people

UNCLE?............Not so fast!!

The only reason you only got the corner was because when I realized what was happening, I grabbed the purse strap and was trying to pull it out from underneath the wheel. If I hadn't, you certainly would have crushed my brand new glasses! Still trying to get the tire tread marks off the purse.

You don't think you can afford Bob again??? How do you know, you haven't gotten his towing bill yet!?

Okay, you make the choice:

oldies music...........

listening to motormouth which got old after about 15 min...

Oldies music...........motormouth
Oldies music...........motormouth

No brainer!! LOL!

"Pursecrusher-Motormouth-Jinx? you forgot....nevermind"....no I didn't!

"Wish I had some Dupont lures on Deerfield Creek with those 20-24 inch fish who wouldn't even look at my fly."

Okay, I'll "bite"...........why would those 20-24 inch fish want to look at your fly? (I probably shouldn't have touched this one with a ten-foot pole!) LOL!

It'll be the last time GPS John rides in the passenger seat if YOU are driving!!! LOL!

I'm Baaaaccccckkkkkkk (sorta)
What a great trip. My official mileage logged in at 4468.1 miles for the 15 days of prowlin' fun. It was great sharing so many good times with so many friends and new aquintances.

Highlights from my trip: getting the best parking spot in front of the Holiday Inn on the way into Deadwood.
"On the Road Again" on Tuesday morning (offset but a severe hail storm later that day! ouch Ouch OUCH), The Pete and Duffy roadside hospitality experience, and a couple kodak moments along the way. After I left Deadwood, I headed west to Yellowstone and Jackson Hole. The cruising (complete with area roadside information and trivia, courtesy of Jane and Judy) was a blast. Beautiful country, and the great left-coasters as travel companions was fantastic. "Gary's Wild Ride" at Jackson Hole was an adventure all to itself. After Jackson WY, we headed to the Big Nail in the Ground (otherwise known as the "Golden Spike" first transcontinental railroad union location - in the middle of nowhere) and said our last goodbyes in Ogden Utah.
On the way back east, I ran into a torrential downpour, and was thankful my windows never leaked a drop, but over 65mph I started hydroplaning with the sheer volume of water coming down. Talk about that unsettling feeling! After about 45 minutes the rains subsided and the rest of the day was clear and sunny.
I returned to Custer State Park and checked out their Game Lodge and restaurant for a possible "choice of locations" for next year. Excellant dinner! Dessert, well, you'd have to be there to appreciate it! (and that's ALL I'm gonna say about it...) The facilities and location of the Game Lodge along with the atmosphere this area presents is exceptional! If you come back to the Black Hills next year as many have talked about already, seriously consider the Game Lodge as THE place to stay! Feel free to contact me if you would like to know more about the lodge.

With so many experiences and good times shared over these past couple weeks, I could never thank everyone and
recognize all the efforts put into this trip by all who attended. My sincere appreciation and respect go out to all who made "Crazy Horse 2001" the outstanding success it was. I'm ready for next year. How about everyone else???

PROWL ON "GPS"John
