I have a serious question for all the Prowler owners here. Has anyone here had any problems with break-ins, vandalism, or theft of their Prowlers? I assume you all keep your Kats locked up in garages when at home, but parking in a garage isn't always an option when taking your Kat for a ride. I guess I'm trying to find out what kind of hazards to expect and what kind of precautions I can take to protect my Prowler. |

I have had my Cat for three years now. In that time, I have only experienced one incident. It occurred at a cruise the first summer I had the car. Someone took an ice cream cone and smashed it between the sun visor and the roof. It made a mess but no real damage. It was my fault, I guess, the windows were down, but I was only a few feet from the car. I just returned from Deadwood and all the cars in attendance sat in a parking garage for the entire event. I am not aware of any problems occurring there with any of the Cats. ------------------ |

I heard of one cut top, any highly visible car will draw good and bad attention. Goes with the territory. A Prowler friends Corvette top got cut so go figure. ------------------ |

Spyderman - We have around 20 owners in the Phx area, and I have never heard of any of them having a real problem. There are AHs in every walk of life, and you can't protect yourself from them all. I believe the Prowler owner casts an image of a car enthusiast, whereas a Corvette, Porsche, Viper owner portrays a ego, economic image. JMO, and maybe the difference lies there? |

The one incident I have had with my Prowler is that we went to a resturant one afternnon and left the top down. I locked the car but forgot I left a cell phone in the console. The phone was stolen. Some ask why lock the car with the top down. Two reasons. One: I know a guy with a 57 Chvey Ragtop who left is car unlocked with top down an came out from a short stop at the store to find 4 or 5 teenagers taking each others picture sitting in his car. Two: even with the Top down locking the car locks the trunk where you can secure any valuables(such as a cell phone) I had a Triumph Spitfire Conv and someone (obviously on purpose) burned a hole in the seat while parked with top down. Being a convertible the question becomes do I park and lock with the top up which if they want to get in bad enough they will just slash the expensive top. Now when I park with the top down I roll the windows up so its harder to reach inside. I wish the console had a lock. ------------------ |

You've probably noticed that even with the top down but the alarm set, anyone trying to unlock and open a door or deck lid is suprised by the horn..at least will let you know is someone is screwing with the car. ------------------ |

Fortunately, I have not experienced any problems with my cat. I think it is such a novelty, that most everyone is in awe of the Prowlers and treats it with respect. When I park it with the top down, I do lock it. As Rich stated, locking does secure the trunk and I make sure I don't leave anything inside the vehicle that might be tempting. ------------------ Classic/Beautiful - I'm referring to the Cat! |

I have parked my Prowler in some of the worst neighborhoods in the country (Bed Stuy, etc. in Brooklyn, Harlum in NYC) and haven't had any problems other than having the car spit on, twice!. Other than that, I think people, regradless of their econmic standing, are so amused by this car that they really don't wish it harm. |

Jeez, my Kat has been thru more than it's share. 1) Roof sliced (theft attempt in West Palm Beach) 2) Belt Buckle scratch (air show in Melbourne, FL) 3) Spilled soda on and in car (air show in Melbourne, FL) Yet, I still take the Kat to car shows and cruises, I now lock it with top up if unattended at a show. My Kat is a garage queen most of the time. Only comes out on weekends. Now have 5567 miles on my 99 Red Kat. I get joked that I should have 4 red cones and yellow crime scene tape around my car now. |

Thanks everyone, I really appreciate your stories. While there unexpectedly positive, at least I now have some idea of what I'm getting myself into. Thanks again. |

1 year and none of those problems. Most people seem genuinely interested. I once was in a line at a TACO BELL picking up my wife some goodies when a drunk with a 40oz Miller Hi Life in a brown paper bag started staggering toward me from the corner bus stop. I said to myself, "uh oh, here he comes" but although drunk, he still asked what kind of car it was (I did have to say it a few times for him) and politely staggered back to the bus stop. I thought for sure he would fall or lean on the car, maybe drop the 40 on it or something. It was quite a relief. ------------------ This message has been edited by Andy R on 07-13-2001 at 03:04 PM |

well... the biggest danger so far is finger prints. I came out one time to find someone had hocked a luggie on the hood. Here is LA, it is a rough 50% of people who, A, love the car, B, love the car but hate YOU for owning one, C hate you and hate the car (like these cost THAT much or something, D have total indifference. My girl gets more hate looks when she drives them then looks of wow nice car, so, alot depends on the person. I'm always wondering when I'm going to come out and find someone really damaged one of them. I did have someone put a sheet metal screw into the rear tire of the Black Tie the 1st week I had her. ------------------ |

I have been lucky my whole life except once, broke into my truck and stole the stereo that was broken. Just keep everything out of site and enjoy. |
