A question for all you FAST Kat's that have posted pic's of smoking tires w/ your Prowler(s): Have you installed a Line Lock solenoid & switch in your brake system? I'm curious, because if your doing the old style of power braking (standing on the brake & gas pedal's at the same time), the rear brake is also being applied. Since our rear disc's are made from aluminum, have you seen any abnormal wear? I've been invited to a Show, Shine & Drag at the end of the month, and I don't know if I should attempt to light 'em up. I don't have the Super Charger or Nitrous, but I do have the gears and K&N (Mac) kit. Since the car chirp's in 2nd, I must assume that it will now perform in the bleach box too (for show). Any suggestions will be appreciated. ------------------ |

Dan, and others, have installed a line lock and can do nice smokey burnouts. However, if you have stock tires and want to make a fast and consistent run on a drag strip, you should drive around the water box and keep as much water off of your car as possible. You might want to just goose the car in front of the box on dry pavement before the start line to clean off the tires. Your tall tires should not break loose at all and your times should be consistent if you stage the same each run. I run about 25 - 28psi in the rear tires and 32 in the fronts. The only reason for you to do a burnout in the setup you have is strictly for show or if you just want to wear away the tread on your rear tires. If, on the other hand, you are using slicks or DOT drag radials, they will perform better if heated up first, but that's a different subject. Hope this helps a little. |

Hey now, if your supercharged and running the stock tires. Like Rich stated, no need to heat them up or even run through the water. You'll smoke them off the line. What I have found is different surfaces yeald from no spin to crazy spin so you'll just have to feel out each track. You really only need a line lock if your running slicks or for wasting rubber.................. ------------------ |

If your looking to have fun,, thrill the kids,,(like me ), get them. They are great for cruise nites, parades, etc. with only the cost of the rubber to replace. They work real well for staging and off the line jumps also. But I use them mostly for fun. As it should be. ------------------ |

Thanks for the input everyone. I drag raced for several years w/ a few 'Cuda's. Wheels up for a good portion of 60 feet w/ a 340 wasn't to bad for that day and time. Not to sound like a smart arse, but I think I might know how to get off the line and through the traps. I was primarily concerned because of the rear aluminum rotors. ------------------ |
